I like the creative idea of the place (even if I dont like so much sugar piled onto my sweets). And the cupcakes are works of art in presentation. However, the customer service and quality control leave a lot to be desired. Yesterday was my fifth or so time visiting this little upstart. I ordered a latte made with almond milk and a cupcake that looked good. The cupcake had good flavor but the cake part was stale and dry. The latte took forever and when it came, it had a strong burnt taste to it. I love dark roast, strong espresso flavor, but this was BURNT. I brought my drink back to the person who made it and told her so. Her smarmy reply, "its not possible to burn milk" and lack of interest in making me happy was a put off. I asked her to make it again with regular milk this time and she did so. Again taking forever to make (perhaps the machine is slow?). The drink again tasted burnt - perhaps the beans? I asked to speak to the manager twice. She ignored me the first time and when I repeated my request, she said the manager is busy. So I asked for a refund for the drink. I told her to keep the $1.50 in tip, since the burnt flavor was not her fault. Again she was unresponsive other than to put the $3.50 drink charge back on my card. I thought I had found a sweet little coffee retreat down under the bridge. I didnt even mind that it took so long to get a coffee drink because it tasted great and was still under $4.00. But after that experience, looks like my search is still on. I might check back in a few months to see if they have worked out the kinks in their operation. then again, I might not. That rude barista has left a bitter taste in my mouth that I wont soon forget.

Cookies have good flavor, but tough to chew - not crispy. Would call them "dipping" cookies, since theyre pretty hard. Same for cupcakes - texture is like they beat batter much too long - dry and hard. Cupcakes need to be mixed gently between liquids and flours - or you end up with a puck. Ive been back three times to choose a variety of items - just to make sure I wasnt being judgmental - but its unlikely Ill go back for more. None of the flavors are good. Frostings on the cupcakes are solid as fudge and wayyy too sweet, I would prefer something softer and more complimentary to the cupcake to eat. You can cut it with a knife into hard slices. Not good. This is even after waiting for an hour or so to come back to room temperature after being refrigerated in their display case (why would you need to do that?)... the frosting was still solid hard butter texture. There was an almond bar (with marzipan) that had good flavor and texture, but a lot lacking in the rest of the baked goods.

I would definitely recommend Sugar Street Bakery & Bistro to anyone getting married in the Portland area. They were great to work with and the cupcakes were outstanding. They provided 170 cupcakes for our wedding. The process leading up to the event was professional, quick, and Jordyn did an amazing job listening to us and responding to email questions promptly. Day of, the delivery gal arrived on time and arranged the cupcakes beautifully. My guests wont stop raving about how great everything tasted. The cupcakes were moist, fluffy, and the buttercream frosting wasnt over-sugary. As an added bonus, Sugar Street added beautiful hand-made sea shells to go with our beach theme on top of every cupcake that were made of delicious white chocolate.

Sugar Street Bakery catered my wedding (December 2016). ALL OF MY CUPCAKES WERE STALE!!! At least 3 guests reported scraping off frosting because they complained it was "Crunchy". Many guests described the icing as "Stale". The cupcake dye was bleeding into frosting as if the cupcakes had been made (and iced) DAYS prior. I myself could not eat more than one bite of my stale cupcake. When I spoke to Darrell (owner) about this concern he hung up on me and has not responded to any emails. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE, NEVER USE SUGAR STREET BAKERY FOR AN EVENT!

The food is tasty, but the sweets are amazing! Creatively crafted flavors that are distinct in every bite! They look just as amazing as they taste too. The cupcakes are decorated well and detailed beautifully, and I love the street names they use. A fun shout out to Portland! The cookies are GINORMAGANTUAN and are a meal in themselves! Kind people, easy to find location and a TON of choices makes this place a must for me a few times every month!

Our wedding cupcakes were moist and delicious as well as beautifully decorated. I strongly recommend Sugar Street for catering, wedding cakes and delicious cupcakes.

The best thing I can say about this place is that on our first anniversary, my husband and I ate a slice of our wedding cake. Ironically, we agreed that it tasted better after a year of being frozen than it did at our reception. However, if you choose them to cater for you, I wish you good luck.

The Savory Bowl is superb! I eat it at least 3 times a week. Their cookies are huge, my favorite is the white chocolate cherry. The cupcakes are very tasty, but I usually only eat about 50% of the frosting.

I was so glad when CCM moved in near our office. The vegetarian options around Water Ave are pretty slim, so I was super happy to discover the Savory Bowl. Im eating one right now!
