My man and I are Southeast Asian freakshows! We love, love, love Southeast Asian cuisine. Ive lived in Cambodia and really enjoy the attention to authentic flavors a lot of Portland restaurants strive for. Anyway, we live right off Division and usually bounce around Andy Rickers establishments and Sok Sab Bai for our fix. Yesterday we decided to take the extra walk and venture to Double Dragon. My god it was delicious. My man and I shared the Papaya Salad, pulled pork, kimchid and collard greens rice bowl with a fried egg, Vietnamese Beef Noodle soup and each got a cocktail. We stuffed our gullets and had major leftovers that heated up nicely. I really appreciate Double Dragons spice scale, their dishes have a little kick but its not overwhelming, and they provide sauces and chilis for the more daring. The papaya had an signature spin on it, that I really enjoyed. Their cocktails are good and paired well with our food, I had the SummerTeeth was so refreshing and balanced. My only tiff is the high price for cocktails, my SummerTeeth was 9$ which, is pretty high for Portland. Theyre friendly, fast and f*&%ing fantastic. P.S. Its not Korean food at all so dont let the review stating "worst Korean food ever" deter you from experiencing flavor-ville bliss.

I love this place, truly. The sandwiches are delicious, and the staff is friendly, but it used to be SO MUCH BETTER. The fois gras bahn mi was my favorite. It was a miracle in my mouth. Created from fresh unicorn tears and angels feathers (just guessing at the ingredients), it was a revelation! Unfortunately, complaints about the fact that it had fois gras in it, and threats to the restaurant and staff prompted removal from the menu. I am now stuck eating the pork belly bahn mi, which while still delicious is missing the magical rainbows and sparkles imparted by the fois gras (unicorn). The ramen has also changed. I was in the habit of going in once a week and ordering the bahn mi and a ramen. It was so good that I spent weeks toiling over a hot stove trying to recreate its creamy curry goodness. While not bad now, the original was much better. Its still worth ordering, and will not disappoint anyone who wasnt privy to the original. All of the cocktails are worth trying, but the Burnt Reynolds in particular is fantastic. Almost an old fashioned, but with a smokey orangey twist. If not for the price and my liver I would drink these everyday.

Tonight we tried Double Dragon. I was half expecting Billy and Jimmy Lee to jump out, punch some folks and then teach me some martial arts. (See Double Dragons the video game) However, my girlfriend and I were both, unfortunately, very disappointed. The food was so salty that it was completely inedible. I got the beef noodle soup, my girlfriend got the pulled pork + kimchid collard greens rice bowl. Both were almost the same level of saltiness, and neither could be eaten. The other unfortunate downside is that we got it to go, so it couldnt be fixed. For what its worth, there were lots of people ordering the miso french fries, so something must be good there or I couldnt fathom why so many people would be there in the first place. Either way, dont order the two aforementioned meals that were salty... And terrible.

Awesome filling veggie banh mis, vegan if you ask for no aioli (which we did), using a great roll that is not overbreading the tasty sandwich but rather serves as a great carrying case for the tastiness it holds. The jicama slaw is pickled with beets and for the undiscerning jicama eater or non-beet lovers (or non-jicama lovers for that matter) could very well pass for just a tasty pickled coleslaw that should also be on the veggie banh mi (which I of course, also did). Oh and what else was good? The tap beer prices, but this is Portland but at only $3 no matter the time - sounds like a good deal to me! But wait... we had more: the green papaya salad crisp fresh french green beans and all (carrots too and the usual level of spicy-tasty) which also seemed very at home on the sandwich than on the fork. YUM!!

Im not a Banh Mi expert, in fact, this was my first Banh Mi experience. Right when you walk in they make it clear that these are not traditional style Banh Mi. I couldnt tell you in what ways they vary, but I know they are priced higher and they point out how filling their are (which is not a misguided statement). I had the Pork Belly Banh Mi, and it was fantastic. Everything about the sandwich was great, from the bread to the meat to the spicy aeoli to a nice subtle pesto spread (which I assume is not traditional). If youre in the area, or grabbing a beer at Apex and want a bite, Double Dragon should be high on your list.

I love this place. Their Banh Mi sandwich is spectacular. The ingredients balance each other perfectly, from the freshly baked french baguette with just the right amount of crunch, to the mouth watering pork belly which complements the pickled carrot, cilantro and jalapeno wonderfully. Their ramen, gravy fries, and brussel sprouts are also my favorites. They also make truly excellent cocktails. I tend to judge a place by how well they make an Old Fashioned, and theirs is top notch. They also have a Double Dragon arcade machine next to the bar. Always brings back memories for me. A truly excellent establishment.

People complaining about prices are silly. My go-to is the Bahn Mi burger. Also the Toasted Coconut Cookie is SO good, must have. Ive had a few other things that were okay. The burger is just exceptional. Bahn Mi burger is a better choice over the sandwich. They use quality ingredients for cocktails, fresh juices, good sodas. Bartenders have been pleasant. Would recommend anything with grapefruit juice. Little upset they changed their happy hour to not include the burger w/ beer but Id still pay full price. Have yet to try the ramen. But always see people ordering it. Good outside patio space, chill vibes.

The food was very good (house ramen) but the prices are very high for the size. And on top of that they add a mandatory 3% "Heath and wellness"charge to your bill which they dont tell you about. Im all for the "not tip" type of restaurant but incorporate it into three price on the menu dont surprise me with summer route of BS charge on my bill. And if your going to charge any sort of mandatory tip then I expect full service. Here I was in charge of getting my water and bussing my own table. So although the food was good I wont be going back due to their dumb business practices.

An excellent restaurant, with a modern interior and a menu that is just as delicious as it is creative. My personal favorite is the Kimchi Dog, an all beef frank loaded with Kimchi and other toppings. Its messy, so part of it will probably end up on your shirt, but its worth a trip to the dry cleaner. The House Ramen is also quite delicious too. Service tends to be a bit slow as the food is made fresh. Stop in between 3-6 for their awesome happy hour specials.

Awesome Pork Belly Banh Mi! I had it without jalapenos, because Im a delicate little flower, but WITH the spiced bacon, because Im a flower who loves that delicious pig meat. Tales of karaoke here are epic, but alas, it is no more. The outside patio area is smoker- and dog-friendly, and the inside area is romantically candle-lit in the evenings, with a sweet little nook in the back. Love the champagne cocktails. Perfect place for hipster-flavored date-night.
