Our first visit was near closing time, when the parking lot was almost empty. We decided not to stop; in the darkness the place looked like a dive. Another day, I mentioned that fact to some strangers in an elevator, and they said, "Yep, its a dive, and the food is great." So we gave it another chance. Shipwrecks is off the beaten track. You have to know its there and want to get there, because the signage is easy to miss. Its only a couple hundred yards off the main drag, at the very north end of Key Largo. Theres an inside bar and restaurant as well as outdoor service by a waterway. And I wouldnt call it a dive; maybe rustic is a better term. The interior is festooned with autographed dollar bills from all over the place. It doesnt take but a few minutes to know that this is a locals place. The wait staff and many customers know each other by name and carry on friendly banter -- but strangers are welcomed also. And the food is very good. There are various assortments of seafood platters, cooked in numerous ways, along with burgers and pork barbecue. I think the most expensive thing on the menu is about $15, but most meal items settle into the $9-11 range. Theres a kids menu, and there were a couple of kids with parents celebrating a birthday when we were there. You can tell a lot about a restaurant by its cole slaw. A well-known eatery not two miles away has some of the worst cole slaw Ive had in the Keys, which betrays a lack of attention in the kitchen. But Shipwreck makes everything fresh on site. The cole slaw and various incarnations of potatoes are excellent. If I were to complain about anything in our experience, it would be that the smoked fish spread, while very good, didnt taste very smoky. Our fried entrees were quite nicely done. A good experience at a restaurant worth returning to.

Found it on TripAdvisor, so decided to try out the Friday Fish All you can eat. Food was good, and plenty BUT waitress came took my husbands plate and never came back to ask if he wanted more ( It was all you can eat) She was in and out of the area and talking, joking with another table of guests. After 30 minutes sitting there with no plate in front of us, had to call her back , my husband then ordered his 2nd plate of fish. Never even asked if we wanted drinks refilled or if we wanted dessert. 15 minutes after finishing eating once again we had to catch her for the check, and then another 20 minutes for her to come get the check and payment. Wont be going back. shame, food is good, service is VERY BAD :(

Wanderfull!!!!!

You go here for the food. The outside is the place to dine. They have added a cover to most of the outside dining area. The restaurant is on a canal so you can watch boats come and go. The food has always been excellent and reasonably priced. Good draft beer selection and available in pitchers. On Fridays they have an all you can eat fish fry. Besides fried, you can also get the fish grilled and blackened. Expect a wait. Be sure to go to the bathroom before going here. The rest rooms are less than ideal. The hand dryers are almost worthless. There are paper towels outside between the ladies and mens restrooms.

Im my opinion this is Key Largos best kept secret. They have the best seafood, best food in general, a great happy hour, and the greatest waitresses in the Keys. The specials are always great, Ive been in a thousand times and never had bad food or bad service. Plus, the cook will special order for you. You can not go wrong at Shipwrecks. Oh and I read the reviews below, and yea it is a locals place, but a dive? No. If you want fancy, you need to go pay double at Pilot House if atmosphere is your gig. They have the glass floors. No shipwrecks is decked out in marine decore but great food, half price.

This place is off the beaten track, its slightly scruffy, but worth a visit as you can sit outside on a hot afternoon by the canal. There wasnt much choice for a vegetarian (but I realise it is predominately fish on the menu in these parts, so not a surprise) l chose fries and had the coconut onion rings which werent bad and the portions were large. My companions had chilli, which got the thumbs up and the pulled pork both with fries. The beer came in a giant tankard and went down well. Our waitress was attentive so all good and worth another visit if we are in the area.

I wish I had more time to spend here, but I stopped in before catching a flight so my time was limited-good thing the service is excellent, and the food is amazing, the Sautéed Mahi was delicious-both the stuffed and unstuffed and very affordable. I opted for the onion rings-also as good as or better than any I have had. I would have loved to spent more time to savor this place and the atmosphere-you may notice that there are many dollar bills on the wall, but find the dollar coin nailed on the wall if you can.

Received a $25 gift card from a charity auction in 2011 for Shipwrecks Bar & Grill. The owners refused to honor it on the grounds that they "dont use that style card anymore" even though they admit they issued it for the charity auction. Suffice it to say, this joint does not get my business anymore. And thats fine - dives like this (and DIVE is the operative word about Shipwrecks) are a dime a dozen in the Keys, and with better food, better prices and better MANAGEMENT.

Best fish & chips in Florida! My grandfather (who was born in England) came to visit last month and wanted fish & chips. We took him to Shipwreck and he was blown away how good they were. Definitely one of the highlights of his trip. Have been back there 2-3 times since then. Blackened Mahi is also very good. If you like spicy, ask them to try their homemade hot sauce.

Laid back, pet friendly place. Sat outside under cover on a beautiful breezy day and ate a Shipwrecks burger cooked as ordered. Sweet potatoe fries are nice & crunchy outside, tender inside. Strange they didnt have conch chowder on the menu, but their "hook & cook" is a nice service. You bring what you catch & theyll cook it for you. Limited parking, but its a small place.

Hole in the wall with variable service. Our waitress was prompt and friendly but we did see the "Snarky" waitress mentioned elsewhere. Food was excellent, Coconut Onion Rings and shrimp and the Jalapeno crab poppers where great. Calamari was fresh cut and cooked though the seasoning was a bit different than what I expect or like.

This establishment recently changed management, and the name Shipwrecks has never been more appropriate to describe it. Used to be a pretty decent hang out, but the quality of service and the quality of the food has sunk faster than the Titanic. Very sad to see an old familiar hang out go by the wayside like this.
