My wife and I love to have breakfast at La Provance. Due to fire damage they were closed so we finally decided to try Babica Hen (which is where La Provance used to be). The decor was very nice. Clean and stylish but not overdone. The staff and servers were quite pleasant and attentive. From there things deteriorated. The menu was interesting but for the extravagent pricing. If you want coffee and toast other than white or wheat, its a $4.50 add on to a $13.00 breakfast. Now comes the good part, not. The food arrived luke warm at best (toast was room temperature). In a word, the food was quite bland. My wife would not eat her sausage - it did have an "interesting" flavor, but at least it had some flavor! Either the chef has no palate or the management dictates use of the salt and seasonings "sparingly". This was our first and last visit to the Babica Hen. This is also my first negative review of a restaurant. I hesitated to write this but felt that our experience was worth sharing with others. I note that many of their patrons have had very positive experiences there. I wish we had. Sorry Babica Hen.

Amazing gluten free waffles. I’ll get back to that in a minute. Overall nice experience; definitely a good choice to take visiting guests and family, maybe a brunch-date. But if you have a large party, send someone ahead to put your name down. I was just a party of 2, arrived around 9:20, and had to wait 40 minutes. The menu is great. A lot of variety in waffles, omelets, and plates and the amount of food you’re getting is pretty filling. Most things are in the $15-20 range. The staff was friendly, fast, and attentive. The restaurant itself was very clean and organized. Parking was ample. Both my wife and I enjoyed our meals - did I mention amazing gluten free waffles? Total bill w/o tip came to just under $50 w/o any alcohol and though that is on the pricier side for brunch w/o alcohol, the quality ingredients, portions, and presentation made it worth it. The only things that I didn’t like about this restaurant (wait time for table and food) were completely out of the control of the staff and owner as they were very busy.

This is your typical high end bistro in Lake Oswego. The food is amazing, the wait horrendous, the staff indifferent, and the parking woefully inadequate. Why 5 stars? The waffles, my god, and especially the fried chicken and waffles. I have never had anything like it since Im not from the south. It is something magical. No syrup either. These are savory waffles so you use them almost like bread of a sandwich to combine with other items. I also had the pulled pork waffles. Not quite as amazing as the chicken but seriously good. The chorizo biscuits and gravy are another wonder dish. Everything you eat here is heavy and will fill you up a long time. The portions arent crazy, is just real quality food. Something like this should be embarrassingly bad given the theme, but Im happy to say its a smashing success.

We went for the first time on Fathers Day. It was a bit of a wait but when we finally got seated and got our food it was well worth it. I got the traditional eggs benedict which was delicious. My mother-in-law got the waffle with blueberry compote and lemon marscapone cream. I would get that next time. The marscapone was light and didnt have an overpowering lemon flavor. My father-in-law got the pigs in a blanket which had a really great sausage in it and the pancakes were sour cream pancakes and very fluffy. My husband just got the traditional breakfast which was good too. They serve whole small potatoes as a side item which had a lot of flavor, I was surprised. The food was excellent! I would definitely recommend it!

Everyone complains about wait times, but you can not argue with success. Yes. If you dont get there before 845 on. Sunday you can wait a long time but you can so this while enjoying their awesome sticky buns. Also any other brunch place in Portland would make you wait longer for less quality food. The waffles are spectacular, soft crispy, perfection. My favorite see lyonnaise just like having 1/2 order of Benedictine eggs and 1/2 of waffles in one! Great coffee cake too! The staff is super nice and and efficient. Great family environment! Price is very reasonable. ~ $60 for a 4 person breakfast.

First time at this place. impressions: clean, quality and smiles from each staff member. Saturday during brunch we had a 20 min wait for a table, and were sat as expected. We were in a slight hurry with an appt in 1 hr, and told our server (Alex). Both the server and Manager very kindly explained the food wait times and gave us menu options to hasten our meal. We were served in 30 min and out w/ in 45! The food was excellent and unique. Served warm and tasty. thank you , we will be back!

One staff member seemed to have a bit of an attitude and carried it over to the start of service with us. Other than this particular person, everything was great! Coffee was good, food was great, and flavors were delicious! If I could make a suggestion it would be to have a simple maybe traditional option for the Eggs Benedict and cut down on the sweetness of the Chicken & Waffles - this might totally be my preference, but even the chicken without toppings was sweet. Will be returning!

Tasty and filling brunch options. Attentive wait staff. Popular so there is not always room in the parking lot. If you are by yourself or with one other person, I recommend grabbing seats at the counter bar. This allows you to avoid the wait times that can easily get over 30 minutes. Large groups can work with reservations, but any more than 4 people without calling ahead I wouldnt tempt. If you are picky about the quality of your egg dishes, they do not disappoint.

Only one visit so far but I loved it. The corned beef hash was excellent. My only complaint is the overly wobbly table. I cant stand a wobbly table at restaurants. It was far beyond just a little wobbly as well, we spilled our drinks a few times each. And its not like they dont know. They clean the damn thing many many times a day and every time they just keep it in service without fixing or replacing. I would especially not expect this at a somewhat upscale restaurant.

Babica Hen Cafe is a great place to eat due to the addition of Chef Ryan at their sister restaurant next door Gubancs Pub. A young cutting edge Chef with new age techniques is on display every time you order off the menus he wrote at Babica Hen Cafe. The food is right at the top in Portland. Good job Joe Buck for seeing the extreme talent in Chef Ryan and building your restaurants around his abilities. Two big time favorite places to eat in Lake Oswego.

Review of the fire roasted tomato bendict: The only issue I had was that the tomato jam was too chunky and a little wet. If they chopped up the tomatoes and onions into smaller pieces and cooked them down a little more it would be perfect. As they do it now, the english muffin kind of turned into a soggy bread disc and hollandaise got diluted/lost. But the flavor was great and Id still give it a 4 out 5, but Im not sure Id order it again.
