Clearly I did not look at the reviews for this restaurant, as it was on a last minute decision to stop in for some Mexican food. I thought Id have some chips and salsa and a few tacos and that would be that. It was actually hardly the case. It was more of a Colombian menu, which is fine with me, Im from Florida and actually miss the variety of Spanish food Im so used to. So although I wasnt exactly expecting such a fancy place, it was a pleasant surprise. Food was good. different, but then again no two Spanish families are going to cook the same dish the same way. I though it was very expensive for what it was. My dish of chicken and rice was 19.00! Whoa!!! And $7 for an arepa which was 4 bites. Presentation was beautiful. I probably wont go back simply because it is too expensive for my taste. But if you have money like that, enjoy it. It was pretty good and Im glad I sprung for it.

Quirky and shabby chic with friendly, knowledgeable staff in colorful customs, this little gem is a find. I came with no expectations and decided to try the Friday night Peruvian buffet. Im not usually a buffet fan, finding that large amounts of food sitting out for large numbers of customers leaves something to be desired. I was tempted though by the amazing aroma wafting from the patio. I discovered fragrant pork that melted in my mouth, seafood that was well prepared and mouth-watering and chicken that was spicy and tender. I discovered flavors that I had never tasted but at the same time made me feel like I was home (only better).

This is known as one of the best restaurants in the Dayton area. It is Spanish food, not Mexican. I had the seafood pealla. It was very flavorful but I felt there was something missing. Not sure what it was. It was good, just not $25 good. My wife had a steak medallion dish with black beans. The steak was topped with onions and tomatoes. It was really nothing special and the beans were just beans, nothing great. I did have an appetizer that was a sheeps cheese on bread. Now that was great and very flavorful. I am not saying the place is bad but Im not sold on it as a great top 10 place. I will try it again though

I go with friends to El Mason from time to time and always enjoy it. So, when one of them was having her 55th birthday, I decided to throw a surprise birthday party for her at El Mason. It was just awesome! We used the small banquet room. They let us come early to decorate it. The staff was just incredibly competent, flexible, and friendly. The food was AMAZING--appetizers, dinners, and desserts + we had an extra cake which they handled with ease! The whole thing went off without a hitch, and it was not a small party. Different people paid for different things, and they got the bills correct. Five stars!

Went today for easter buffet. Food was great! There was only 4 people in our party and they automatically added 29.00 for a tip! Our bill was a total of 174.00. Our sever basically brought two rounds of drinks and removed our dirty plates twice. Thats it. I feel this added tip was a bit much. I saw parties of 8 or more. I can only imagine how much they were charged for a tip! Dont get me wrong, the food is great but I feel this added "tip" was just plain dirty and wrong. We are always happy to tip our server accordingly to service provided but just assuming we were pleased is wrong.

AMAZING!!! Proprietor Bill Castro and his staff made an evening to reminder from drinks and dining to the unique setting. Unsure of where to start we asked Mr. Castro to order for our group – what an experience of flavors! The food is off the chart! The combinations of flavor and textures is wonderful. The service is exceptional, were you are not assigned a specific waiter, but the entire staff is a team responsible for everyone. You melt into as you gain an appreciation for the dining event. El Meson will be a DEFINATE go to restaurant when we are in the area. THANK-YOU!

First time here we went on a Saturday night there wasnt a wait and we were seated right away. Our server was pretty short & rude and didnt offer to suggest what was good and so on. My husband ordered the garlic shrimp there were 5 tiny pieces of shrimp on his plate they brought out about 15 minutes before my food.I ordered the chicken fondou it was disgusting and drenched in BBQ sauce. I sent it back and he did take it off my bill. So we had chips and salsa for dinner. What kind of Mexican restaurant doesnt serve complementary chips and salsa?! Never going back for sure.

We had another fantastic evening at El Meson. Since it was the Tuesday before Christmas, we had the bar all to ourselves. The bartender took expert care of us, taking the time to answer all our questions, ensure my special dietary needs were met (they even have a soy-free and gluten-free chocolate cake made with almond flour for desert!) and the food was divine as always. We brought our son in for the first time and he absolutely loved it. If you dont like the hustle and bustle of the busy weekends, I definitely recommend coming during the week for the quiter ambiance.

I only gave this 5 stars because I didnt have the option to give it 10! El Meson is the best restaurant to choose for ordinary dinners or extra special dinners. The food is consistently amazing, the employees are super efficient, and it is not like every other restaurant in town. It is a party for every occasion! Our son-in-law owns three restaurants in Cincinnati, and El Meson is his favorite destination when he comes to Dayton. He actually first heard about it from other friends in Cincinnati who said it is an excellent dining experience. Love love, love it!

El Meson is an amazing place with amazing food. The owners are the sweetest. My family has known them for quite a few years. One of my favorite things about the restaurant is the atmosphere. You almost feel like youre transported into another country when walking in. I have never tried anything I didnt like at this restaurant. Also, go on one of their special nights. They have a Colombian independence day celebration in the summer, and tequila tasting quite often, as well as tapas events.

always a favorite when we visit town from Fla.... but very disapointed with experience, the menu has been shorten...less selection...pitchers of Mojitos were very good. service decent, hospitality from the owner could use vast improvement! dont dare stay past 10 and have to use a rest room, they lock everything. plus a mouse on the patio makes for interesting dinner conversation.

I was not impressed at all. This wasnt good Colombian food at all! Very overpriced! The food wasnt even mediocre. I will not go back there or advise anyone else to. The atmosphere was the only thing favorable and I didnt pay $60 for just that. Also, they charged my card $7.80 more than what it should have been. So to edit my prior amount, I paid $70 for atmosphere. Yay.
