When I walked in, there was no indication as to whether to seat yourself or wait to be seated. I stood at the door for about a minute until a man sat up from his guitar at a table and told me to sit anywhere. The place was mostly empty. An unpleasant waitress then gave us menus and took our drink orders. Upon ordering our food, we found that they were out of about 40% of the ingredients needed for any dish, so I ended up with an egg sandwich in a pita. The egg was cooked in a microwave and the bacon was the pre-cooked stuff that is self stable. The only cheese options were American and feta. The sandwich was ok, but certainly not worth the price or even going out to eat. About half way through our meal, our coffee drinks were ready. The coffee was pretty good, but it would have been nice to have it first. Overall, the restaurant seemed slightly dirty, cluttered (random self with all kinds of paper/ books/ broken crayons all over it), and the service was definitely lacking.

Chicken is the main meat but so many wonderful vegetable dishes that this meat eater did not even miss it tonight. Great band, warm atmosphere and very attentive staff. Made my wife and I feel as if we were the only ones in the restaurant even though the house was packed and many couples were enjoying the evening and dining. Would definitely recommend and we have already picked out a couple from work that we will introduce to Malelani Cafe

Wow. I stopped in for coffee and was surprised they had food. Just not any food. But a Mediterranean flare that was absolutely ridiculously good. The portions were huge. The chef "Nate" suggested my meal. Which was perfect in every way. I found a new place and will go out of my way from South Philly to come here again. What a surprising experience.

The food is delicious and all made from scratch. When I asked for water the server suggested a choice from their range of coffees and teas, and chose one for me. It was also delicious. The staff is friendly and eager to please, even bringing a bowl of water for my dog (there is outside eating). I will definitely be returning again and again.

George and Nate create great Mediteranean dishes and combine friendly service with support for local small businesses, graphic and musical artists. The coffee offering is terrific. To appreciate the complexity, texture and taste you should have it in a real porcelain mug/cup- so I suggest staying "in" after your meal

Its probably one of the only places that are open late and still have fresh and healthy food options! I love the events, the friendly staff, the spacious area and decorative art pieces that makes this place one unique hang out spot Ill continuously support and love!!

Malelani sets up a pop-up eat-out station in our office. The picture shows a delicious gyro. What I got was a bowl filled with processed chicken slices, tomatoes, couscous (?), onion, and a tiny piece of pita bread. Not a gyro at all. And it was awful. Never again.

As a Greek American, I can vouch for the authenticity of the food here, down to the quality of the feta cheese. An added bonus is Georges warmth and friendliness make you feel you are a close friend joining a family dinner. Highly recommend.
