16 dollars for 7 pieces of 2cm*2cm*0.3cm eel. It was pre-made, and the flavor was the same as ones in supermarket. Dishes here were innovative and good looking, but I do not feel the quality is also first-class. Small portions made customers feel special. The service was the worst. I made a reservation at 7:30pm and still spent at least 10 min standing at the door waiting to be noticed. When finally a senior waitress came to me, she had no smile, and did not even say "Hi". She doubted that I had made a reservation and simply reminded me that everyone would be charged $2 for sitting in the private room. (She appeared to have a totally different attitude to some up-class customers, and Japanese families.) Three of us spent about 40 min in the private room and got very hungry. My friend had some snack and the senior waitress immediately came to us and told us that we would be charged $20 dollars for eating external food. We spent more than $100 dollar there. And we told the manager the whole story. Finally we paid $15 dollars, and the senior waitress directly told us: "Do not come here again." When I walked out of restaurant, and the cook was chilling outside and said "Thank you" to us. I told him what happened to us, and he told me that the senior waitress did not treat everyone in the same way. I think the senior waitress is the owner (or owners wife) of this restaurant.

I grudgingly give it 3 stars for a very mixed experience. The food I and my son ordered was very good, but the tenpura donburi my wife ordered was not. What ruined our experience were 2 things. One the slow, inattentive and rude(it seemed as if she wanted to start a fight) "service" provided by the older server- something I have also seen noted in other reviews of this restaurant. On the other hand, the service provided by the younger server was friendly and attentive. The other factor, a larger one, is Kihachi shares HVAC with a cigar store next door and the smell/fumes from either the cigars or from people smoking them inside the store (not Kihachi) filters into Kihachi. so much so that I had first thought someone had decided to light up inside the restaurant.

The service was slow, rude, and did I mention slow? Despite having a reservation, we waited 15 min before anyone said a word to us, then another half hour seated and waiting for someone to visit our table. The waiter and hostess took turns ignoring us. Food was eventually served in random order - one person at our table finished eating his main course 30 min before the other two were served. We were hoping to actually eat together at the same time... "Saturday night is always busy," was the only excuse offered (no apologies were offered), which was hard to believe given that only three table were occupied by the time we left. Food was good but not nearly good enough to make the overall experience worthwhile.

I was expecting an expensive dinner but it was not bad. We had two servings of hakozushi and three more tapas and dinner for four. None of us are alcohol drinkers but our bill was $130 plus tip. Considering three girls and my husband left the restaurant full, that was perfect. Food was prepared with fresh materials and care. Miso soup has authentic bonito stock. I would not order beef teriyaki because the meat was very gristly. Tempura passes my expectation. Our young waitress was working very hard and nice. But, there is another serving person who had difficult night to smile or talk friendly. In fact, we probably wont ever go back because of her

Incredible Dining Experience! The first time I went there was in December last year and we ordered 9 small plates a la carte, and every dish, except the mackerel, was perfect (especially the Toro, fried oysters, and mushrooms). Its not that the mackerel wasnt good, but Ive had better. The second time I went there was a few days ago for an Omakase meal, which was 11 (small dish) courses. The Omakase was pricey ($250 per person including gratuity), but so worth it, especially the Wagyu beef, duck fish, and the fresh water shrimp. The Omakase was not only the best Japanese meal that Ive eaten, but probably one of my best meals ever.

I went here five years ago by myself on a whim and was knocked out of my socks. Now since the have been on "Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations" they have only changed one thing. They are packed....lol. If you want to have dinner do not go here. But if you want a dinning experience this is the place. The food was out of this world. And totally worth the 2 hour dinning experience and the $160.00 price tag for 2. If you wont to treat yourself.....wow your woman....or just be the cool person in Columbus, YOU HAVE TO GO HERE!!!!!

Fine authentic Japanese food. First, I must admit that previous reviewers are completely right. Their service is very slow, because they only have 2-3 servers and they wouldnt cook or make any food until you order. However, if you can accept the slow service, the Japanese food they have is the best and most authentic style Ive ever seen. Fine, fresh and rare ingredients, and creative menu. They have everyday specials design by chefs. Thats why their price is higher than other Japanese restaurants in Columbus

Best restaurant in central Ohio, bar none. This is the ONLY Japanese restaurant in central Ohio that expatriate Japanese (my wife included) will admit is up to Tokyo itzakiya standards. Guide to eating here: - Dont order entrees. Order the tapa-type plates instead (I love the beef sashimi). - Ask for a translation of the Japanese only post-it note. All the best items are there. The box sea bream sushi (if it is on there, the post-it is very seasonal) is an every-trip must-have.

Fantastic Japanese food. NOT a sushi bar (though they typically have some offerings). Service is slow, by design, so expect dinner to take 2 hours or so. Relax, and enjoy it. The younger server is definitely better, but understand the older lady isnt angry, just a bit off-putting. Really though, the food is the highlight. Lots of dishes you cant get anywhere else in town. 4-starts since they share HVAC space with a smoke shop... ugh. Not sure there is much they can do about it through.

SLOW,, very slow.. f***ing slow. There werent many customers but we waited 20 minutes for appetizer, 1 hour and 20 mintues for the entree. I waited for my steak for 1 hour 20 minutes, my girlfriend waited 1 hour 10 minutes for her udon. We even had to cancel desert because waitor wasnt sure how long it was gonna take them to make desert... Food is excellent but I just do not understand what is taking so long. I feel sorry for waitors since they wont get much tip since slow services.

The restaurant air quality was bad, It smell like a smoking place. It should invest a better air filters. The food was good but beware the service is extremely slow. So considering the price, portion, service, and taste I dont think its worth it.

This is not a sushi restaurant. Its Japanese but you want find traditional rolls and such. The food was good. I sat at the bar and enjoyed watching the two chefs cooked. I didnt realize they cook with chopsticks. I found that interesting.
