Though the service and the atmosphere were what I expected I really found the food to be lousy and the floor, for some reason, to be sticky. Our large group had a reservation and were were seated immediately and drink orders taken. The service was efficient and attentive. We didnt have to spend much time at all waiting for any service. "Mushroom Soup" is included with your meal. What this soup consists of is chicken broth, sliced up white mushrooms and some green onion. I really expected more out of a soup from such a highly regarded restaurant. Next came the salad in a plastic bowl. Bagged iceberg lettuce with ARTIFICIAL BACON BITS!! Even McDonalds puts real bacon on their salads. The fake bacon did nothing to soak up the water in the bottom of my bowl. The server/chef did do a very nice show. He was entertaining though a little difficult to understand in spite of him being obviously American. My entree was good, not great. The disposable chopsticks they provide are cheap and splinter easily. I was really disappointed that they would have disposable utensils at nicer sit down place. Can you imagine sitting down at Olive Garden and getting a plastic fork? We didnt get dessert but if you tell them its your birthday they will charge you $7 to bang a drum at you and serve you a slice of pineapple. In the end its just stir fry with a show. There are much nicer hibachi grills in the area.

We always come here for special celebrations and its always wonderful but they dropped the ball this time! We made reservations for new years eve at nine and we didnt sit down until 10! I asked the host why it was taking so long and he just said oops sorry my manager overbooked so its gonna be awhile , except then a walk in came in and he told them 20 minutes yet we still waited an hour with a reservation. I understand if your busy but let us know that beforehand so we could have come later or went to a different restaurant, over booking slots and making people wait for an hour is ridiculous. The server was really nice but the chef was in such a crappy mood! I know he was probably tired because of how busy they were on NYE but when you are in the restaurant business that is just something you expect, We tried to be friendly and talk to him and he just blew us off and didnt comment back. We asked him for extra sauce he commented "Really! does anyone else want anything" and rolled his eyes. The main reason we come here is for the experience and he totally rushed through the whole thing. We were also celebrating a birthday and someone moving away so it kinda stinks that we got lousy service. Its not our fault we were sat an hour late so dont get an attitude. Overall not a good experience and the manager never came and apologized for the hour wait. very disappointing

I normally love House of Japan, its my family and Is favorite place to go to celebrate birthdays and such. Yet this is the second time my boyfriend and I have gone to the Polaris one since moving up here, and this second time, which was just 3 hours ago, has caused me to be experiencing symptoms of food poisoning(stomach cramps, diarhhea, vomiting, etc.) Our server and chef were great, but I had asked the chef to let my chicken cook a little longer, since I have had food poisoning from undercooked chicken before, and he said he would. Yet he didnt, and had already put my food on my plate before I could get a chance to say something. I realize that you need to feed a full table quickly before people get hangry, but please ensure that the meat is cooked fully and respect the not-so-outlandish requests of a customer paying 65 dollars for a meal. Getting food poisoning from undercooked chicken from a top-consumer rated restaurant, is not how I intended to spend my saturday evening. I most likely will not be going back to this location.

Im going to list the things about this place I noticed. You can decide for yourself if they are good or bad: * they have a case of "oriental" things for sale, which obviously includes non-japanese things like chinese dolls.. * our waiter had a band-aid on his arm and scar mark that was well over 6 inches long... I dont care for someone with a band-aid waving his arms over my food. * all the various vegetable dishes were nothing more than raw vegetables thrown on a grill for a while while he drowned them in some sort of grease and soy sauce concoction. * why do they offer filet mignon and new york steak? I thought this was a House of Japan. This place is a grease pit in a well-to-do area. Just ask if you can watch before actually ordering if you dont believe what Im saying about it being a grease pit.

My favorite japanese restaurant in North Columbus. Thats the first time my wife and I tried this japanese restaurant, but for sure we ll come back. The food is very good, Ingredients are very fresh and tasty. Try the Filet Mignon, its awesome. As someone said bellow, you need to try the fried rice, way better than the regular rice. I dont feel like its too expensive for what you get, I paid $50 for two, but the food, the waitstaff, the atmosphere was just perfect. The only issue is that its not very intimist/romantic, you will be sitting at a table with 6 strangers, maybe not the best option for a one-on-one date. But for sure, I definitely recommend this place

We made a 6:00 reservation for a party of 8. 45 minutes later with people walking in with no reservations, partys of 6 partys of 10 partys of 4 it goes on and on. We were told 2x we were next...but no. Food was very good. But once tbe chef was done they brought carryout containers. ..we werent even done earing yet. Very loud, very chaotic. Not a place for any one with noise, hearing, or personal space issues. Dont go to have a conversation. ..you have to yell. Chef was entertaining, most of our meals weregood. But if have a problem with MSG not the place for you. 2 of our party who have that have been sick within 2 hours of leaving.

Hostess was rude. Waited forever to sit. They overcrowded the table to the point where people asked to leave and sit elsewhere. The server was inattentive. The chef overcooked our meat, even though we reminded him we wanted it rare and asked him to take it off the grill. I got up after paying and walked over to the bar and when I came back to the table a couple mins later, they had thrown my leftovers away. The busboy and hostess laughed about this, and the manager/owner just said this was policy and did not offer any compensation. The only good part of this was the bartender and the drinks he made. I will never go back.

Really good food, poor service. I explained to our hostess that I had a gluten allergy (wheat) and that I preferred to have my own soy sauce used for our food. The hostess had no problem with it and told me that they would take care of it. When the chef came out and i re-explained the situation, he looked at me like I was stupid & that my request was beyond reason. After this awkward and uncomfortable exchange, the chef was rude and was not nearly as entertaining as the other chefs performing around us. The food was excellent, but I still left with a sour taste in my mouth.
