Never Forget
I read the reviews and decided to take my chances. i used triadtakout to get my order delivered, since so many of the bad reviews have been concerned with service more than the actual food. i ordered some nigiri maguro sushi (2 pieces of tuna) as a test and a philly roll just b/c they are hard to really mess up. the tuna was good--the rice was fresh, the tuna was very fresh, and sliced to a thickness that i like--easy to bite through. the philly roll was pretty standard and was good too. i also ordered the filet mignon hibachi lunch with a side order of scallops, a side salad with ginger dressing, the white and teriyaki sauces, and fried rice. the filet mignon i ordered medium rare; it arrived medium, which i knew was a chance since it probably cooked a little more while being transported. it was a filet, so it was tender and tasted good. i was a little disappointed it was not seared. the scallops were inexpensive and i took a chance. the portion of course was not large, about 6 smallish bay scallops. they smelled extremely fishy, so im quite sure they were not fresh. they were not seared at all, just cooked through, almost like theyd been steamed while being grilled (maybe some broth poured on them). a major disappointment. i fed them to my cat, who did enjoy them quite a bit. the vegetables with the hibachi meal were mainly zucchini with some large pieces of mushrooms and onions. i enjoyed the mushrooms and onions, the zucchini not so much, it was just okay. and generally i enjoy zucchini depending on how it is prepared. the white sauce was thick and odd and sweet and i did not like it at all. the teriyaki was some standard stuff out of a bottle, it was only fair, i did not use it. the salad, as has been noted elsewhere, is pretty much just bagged iceberg with some slivers of carrot and red cabbage. i found what looked like a couple of short hairs while eating it so i didnt finish it. the ginger dressing was decent, i liked it, wasnt the best ive ever had either. the fried rice was not what i have come to expect from ordering chinese. its just basically some white rice that was thrown on the grill, i think. just plain rice, nothing special, not even particularly brown, looks like it might have a few small pieces of some carrot or something in it. i havent tasted it yet b/c im pretty sure its going to taste like just plain white rice with maybe a little soy on it or something. i can use it in some other dish later. the portions were decent, i ordered off the lunch menu, was hoping to get at least 3 meals out of it, but only got 2, the steak and the sushi. the delivery driver was really, really nice. not really sure i would order again. i gave them 3 stars, 2.5 would have been more appropriate, but i didnt hate the meal, i just didnt think it was worth the 40 bucks it cost me (36 including the 4 dollar delivery fee and i tipped the driver 4 dollars more).

I have driven by Sapporo’s restaurant for the past few months and always thought it would be a nice place for an evening out. Boy was I wrong! Keep in mind this is early evening on a Thursday so there is no excuse for the events that follow. First we walked in while the “gentleman” was on the phone taking reservation. He didn’t even acknowledge our presence. He was rude to the customer on the phone. I guess that should have been the first sign of how the evening was going to go. Another couple walked in while we were waiting for him to finish his phone conversation. He ignored us and addressed the couple behind us. He sat the other couple at a full grill then sat us at an empty grill. The waitress took our order with an indifferent attitude. She returned with our drinks and the worse excuse for soup I have ever seen. It looked and tasted like luke warm dish water with small flakes of bread floating in it. Meanwhile, other guests are being seated at other grills. We are still the only two at our grill. 10 minutes go by, the waitress brings our “salad” haha I cant believe they have the nerve to call a small bowl of chucky lettuce a salad. During our salad a young mother and her son were seated at the grill with us. 15 more minutes go by and … nothing. So we are 25 minutes into our dining experience with no end (or food ) in sight. Enough is enough. We head for the front to inform them we were tired of waiting and we were leaving. The ‘gentleman” brings out a calculator and says “ok what u have ?” We had two glasses of water, soup and salad. If you have been to a Japanese restaurant you know the serving size of the salad and soup are extremely small. Can you believe he charged us $8, yes I said $8 for the water, dish water soup and chucky lettuce salad? Without an apology and with a straight face. I was speechless. To say I will never ever go back to Sapporo’s is putting it mildly. I will share my experience with as many people as I can for many years to come.

Server was inept. She was slow with drink orders and/or refills and forgot to bring drinks to some of the diners in our party altogether and had to be reminded. The soup wasnt warm and had no taste. The cook kept getting the food orders of everyone at the table mixed up. My steak was supposed to be medium and he cooked it way past well done so it was chewy and had no taste. He also made no attempt to interact with the diners or put on any kind of show at the table. Part of the Japanese hibachi dining experience is the interaction with the diners and the corny show the cook puts on at the table but this guy just dumped food on the table and cooked almost in silence. We were also charged one price for drinks at the bar and when we ordered the same drinks at the table we were charged several dollars more for the same drinks. We ordered our drinks at the table as soon as we were served our entres but by the time the drinks were brought to us we were finishing our meal. We love this kind of restaurant but we will not be going back to Sapporo in Greensboro.

This place remind me of a movie theater thats about 10 years past its prime. Everything has this kinda greasy smelly funk on it. The fish tank had big scuff marks on it, and all the little doo-dads sitting around that werent encased in glass had thick greasy kitchen dust on them. I didnt want to put my two year old in the nasty child seat they brought out. Our waitress came back once after seating us and that was only after someone got up and chased her down and told her we needed more water. We had to chase down another waitress to get an extra fork, and the cook had to get us another plate. To top it off even though she did NOTHING for us she auto added the 15% gratuity to our tab - presumably since we were a party of 10 - but that doesnt make sense in the japanese steak house scenario since youre waiting on a 10 top whether they know each other or not. Food was alright, the schtick was the same as any other hibachi style place, next time we go out well go to fire and sticks or kabuto.
