I had the displeasure of visiting this restaurant on New Years Eve. We walked in to this restaurant expecting a great meal and great environment for our 10 person family outing. When we arrived for our 6:30 reservation we waited nearly 20 minutes and given it was New Years Eve we werent completely irritated but then we got to our table where a "special" menu was waiting for us. At the top it said $35.50 per person and $15.50 per child. There was nothing special about the menu except you get a "group picture" and "party favors". When one of the members of our party attempted to discuss the prices that were nearly double the normal pricing, the manager was quite condescending. She explained that they have done this ridiculous pricing for 34 years and essentially said we should have known about the pricing. We explained how this was our first time at the restaurant and we had no idea. She said it was basically our fault we didnt know. We said it was greedy to gouge patrons simply because they choose to go out and celebrate but this restaurant feels gouging is not greedy and fully appropriate. "They have done it for 34 years" after all. I will never visit this restaurant again. especially with so many other fantastic, customer-service driven small business restaurants in the Roanoke Valley. Why not allow this one to run itself out of business by overcharging and treating customers like they are dumb?

Be aware that they jack their prices WAY up on New Years Eve. Not impressed at all with the meal we received for $35.50 PER PERSON ($15.50 per child), which doesnt include the 18% gratuity that they automatically add as well as tax. Ive eaten at far better Japanese restaurants in Roanoke. Our table didnt even get a fun cooking show like you usually get at a Hibachi restaurant. Maybe that was due to my talk with the manager (who lacked in customer communication and came off as exceedingly condescending) before our meal started regarding the NYE price gouging and the lack of communication regarding "special pricing" when making reservations - if youre going to charge ridiculous prices to "celebrate" the occasion, at least tell your patrons up front when making reservations so they can decide whether to support your business or not. We came here because our usual Japanese restaurant was charging a ridiculous amount on NYE, but it turns out their ridiculous price was even cheaper than Kabuki. Go figure. Should have left and eaten somewhere else, but it was already late. Ill pass on this one from now on.

When we arrived we were advised wait was about 45 minutes, the person behind me was told an hour. It was about an hour. Another guest told me he had a reservation and still waited 45 minutes. We waited in the lobby...there was no place to sit...no benches, chairs...nothing. You could stand or sit in the floor. Once at our table service was adequate, soup was good, salad was standard. Our cook did a decent job...a few shrimp as appetizers, then he started preparing the meal. The veggies were cooked first and served, then the fried rice, then the meats. By the time the meat was served, the veggies were cold, and the rice was warm. We ordered the fillet and shrimp. Whole meal had very little seasoning so was very bland. It filled the hole but overall was not impressive. I will not be returning.

Food is good but the customer service is less than desirable. Especially the receptionist Renee who took our reservation over the phone. Made the reservation around 3 oclock in the afternoon to avoid their rush hours but Renee made it sound like I called them on their busiest day of the year. She tried to rush me off the phone before I give her our information, just would not listen and kept guessing on what my next word will be. It was ridiculous, I had to repeat our date and time several times and she hung up on me before taking my name. Called back and to found out that she had guessed on the name and said thats the name i gave her. Renee needs to be fired.

The manager at Kabuki never seems to have time to address customer complaints. I have been here a few times and both times I had concerns I wanted to address to management. They always sent an employee to "speak for" the manager. The manager never seems to have time to speak to customers about their complaints which I think is ridiculous. I have never even seen their manager here. I think they must either be very elusive or not care so much about their customers. Certain things can be confused and forgotten when relaying a message you heard. You should speak to your customers directly and find out what their concern is about.

We have been going to Kabuki for 30+ years. Food has always been great. Went this past Friday night and was in for a surprise. I do not know what in the world they did, but apparently they are trying some different flavors. The soup, we could not eat, and I usually LOVE the rice but it also had some new flavorings that were not at all good. We could not even eat the rice. Also both of us had a sick feeling for a while after leaving. PLEASE Kabuki DO WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN DOING FOR 30+ YEARS. DO NOT CHANGE.

The manager there Christina was EXTREAMLY rude to me saying I wasnt welcome to eat there because last time I ate there (she claims) I didnt tip. Its funny because I have never gone out and not tipped. Last time I was at kabuki I tipped 30$ on a 50$ ticket!!! I asked her to bring the chef that made my food (the one I always request when I eat there) and ask him, she refused to do so!!! UNBELIEVABLE!

This is by far the best tasting Hibachi Ive had, and Ive had a lot. Our chef was inexperienced but very personable. The food was delicious, regardless of his technical ability. The place looked fantastic - outside it carried a Japanese manor house motif, while inside the lobby there was a great night sky mural painted on the ceiling. The rest of the interior was quite clean and pleasant.

Arrived for a friends birthday party 20 minutes before our 7:00 reservation, it is now 7:55 and still waiting! After the third time we asked, they finally told us they were a chef short. At this point, it doesnt matter how the food tastes, the service is horrible. Make sure you show up 45 minutes after your reservation so you dont have to wait long!

Will not be returning. This was probably my 6th time at this one and it has gradually got worse each time but tonight tops it. Not only was half my food forgotten so I had to wait for another chef to make my chicken but I only got like literally 6 small pieces of steak. Over priced and definitely not worth my time or money. Do not recommend this place.

Our experience tonight was most pleasant! Our Chef was very professional & knew a bunch of tricks to entertain everyone. Four couples were at our table & he prepared each order properly & it was extra delicious! Our server was extra friendly as well & we cant wait to go back again! Prices were very reasonable & the amounts were very plentiful!

Our family and friends have gone here for years and its always the same – excellent. One of our favorite places to eat (if not *the* favorite). Were going in the next few days and I just read one of the recent reviews about them changing the flavors. Boy, I hope not! If they have, Ill edit this review and let you know.
