My worst dining experience in a long time. My experience at Asahi was so terrible, I created this account just to publish this review. Upon first walking in, I ventured to the bar, which had seats occupied by cleaning chemicals and rags rather than patrons. When we were seated, the experience started off decent with the traditional soup and salad you would get at any other Japanese steak house, but then we were greeted with a 45 minute lull before our chef arrived. My long-awaited excitement for a meal was stifled when the chef plopped down a giant helping of noodles on the grill and proceeded to cover them with "white sauce", which for whatever reason is the current flavorless substance than many Japanese steak house patrons drown their food in. However, this practice gave the noodles a greasy texture and a fried mayonnaise taste. I dont know if the chef didnt care or was just flat-out inexperienced. By the time the table parallel to us (which both chefs arrived at the same time) was finished and paying their bills, I was just receiving my dry salmon and slimy scallops, while my date would have to wait another 15 minutes for her chewy steak. Oddly enough, the last thing that was put on everyones plate was the rice which came out five minutes before our check. I forgot to mention the insane prices Asahi charges their guests. I paid nearly $70 for two plates of food which would cost $20 cheaper at any other nicer Japanese steak house in a 50 mile radius. Over two hours after we were seated, we were out the door, not wanting to ever look back. I tried Asahi on a whim, and my wallet, stomach, and love for Japanese cuisine all paid the price for my risky gamble. There are plenty of other wonderful options for great food on West Market, so never try to think of an excuse to go here.

I love coming here... I give the food a 5 star hands down but the service is slack. My husband and I wait for our drinks to even be ordered for over 20 minutes! And as for the manager, I was so excited to come here because Im pregnant and was rly craving this place but right as we walk in we waited for 10 minutes to be seated... when standing and waiting by a sign that clearly states "please wait to be seated"... the owner shouts very rudely "what do you need??" While a waitress is standing right next to her... so I and my husband point to the sign and she asked us "why?" And we reply "bc we are hungry.....?" So she says rudely without a smile or acknowledgement to "pLEAsE move over here this is the waiting area!!!" As if we were supposed to know this.... move your sign and maybe we would!!!!! Used to like coming here but probably will be going somewhere else for my hibachi thanks to this old, miserable short woman! Horrible management and customer service !!!!

We came with a group of 6 and sat in the sushi side. Our waitress brought out the waters and only gave us 1 menu for 6 people. We all were first timers and we had questions about the menu. This waitress couldnt answer any of the questions and didnt go ask someone else. Turns out shes new but her service was horrible. Caucasian with short blonde hair...didnt tell us her name When she brought out the food she didnt tell us the names of the rolls and when I asked what each roll was she named one then said " ..thats the other one you ordered " and walked away. After complaining, the other waitress was really great and answered all of out questions even ones about gluten free ingredients. The food was okay; we had the udon, Salmon/tuna volcano roll, and the eel roll. The prices here are pretty high for the sushi/sashimi especially if they hire servers like that. Most likely not coming back. (They do give free frozen yogurt at the end of your meal)

The most authentic sushi bar in town. The people thats been putting all this negative post about Asahi are the same people that have no kinds of knowledge about sushi. Im a sushi chef and Ive work at many different restaurants before and I can absolutely say this place is the most authentic Japanese restaurant outside of Japan. Steve Saito are among the top sushi chefs in america. How can you sit there and lied about the quality of fish and the work of one top sushi chef, You should be ashamed of yourself. If you want to experience real, fresh ,authentic and delicious sushi go to Asahi, For the people thats been putting negative reviews about Asahi sushi maybe authenticity and freshness doesnt suit you. Stick to buffets sushi and grecory store sushi, Stop causing trouble for Asahi.

The older manager lady was very rude to me and my pregnant wife. We walked in like we always have for the last 5 years and waited to be seated. She asked us: "what do you need?" And we said to be seated and then she asked: "why?" Very rude, I polite and unprofessional.. And we pointed to the sign at the entrance. She then answered very rude and condescending again "why"? Then she pointed to the other side of the entrance and demanded for us to move there. One waitress apologized but we never received an apology from the old Asian lady. Very disrespectful and not professional. Used to live this place for the friendly atmosphere and its now all thrown away due to the disrespect. Beware, youve been warned!!!

I have heard about this restaurant from several people and figured out we would give it a try. When we first arrived I was a bit worried because it dont look that nice, but I wad shocked. The lady who owns it or runs it is a trip! She was so welcoming, funny and took time to make sure you laugh. We were offered drinks while we had our 30 minute wait for our table and the mixed drinks were a lot better then we expected and our beers were fresh. When we got to our tables I was still a little unsure about the food, once we were served it was some of the best Japanese food Ive had. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant and have already told several people to go in and give it a try.

Arrived at 7:50pm today and took a bit for who I assume was the manager there to seat us. Finally got seated for a party of two. Sat and waited for over 50mins. A cook came by and served the people who arrived 20mins after us first. And thats after they added 5 more people to our table which was completely fine. I just got tired of waiting and the server was amazing the entire time by the way. After getting up to leave the server tried to convince us to stay. I refused and the manager just sat there and watched us leave with no care at all. And made no attempt and speaking to us as to why.

Look elsewhere for hibachi. This was my first attempt at hibachi in Greensboro, so maybe this is good relative to the local but in my opinion you cant be much worse off. The service was very pleasant but the food (as well as being loaded with butter... ummm, Japanese food?) just wasnt very good. The vegetables were way over-cooked, my chicken and shrimp came with spaghetti (seriously...what kind of Japanese place gives you buttered spaghetti without even asking?), and the tab was just under $60 after tip for two. Terrible value for what you get if you ask me.
