I used to love RiRa. I have spent celebrated many a special event there. I love the atmosphere, the food, & the drinks. This past Saturday, I celebrated my 30-ish bday there w/ 11 of my friends. Our waitress was incompetent to say the least. She panicked when she heard there were 12 of us. She never cracked a smile or introduced herself. 2 of us ordered a Black & Ginger - a drink listed as a RiRa specialty. The waitress (I finally learned was named Natalia) had no idea what we were talking about. The drinks came out, and they were red. Black & Gingers are just that - black & ginger. The bartender said he substituted sloe gin (without asking) for blackberry. He did comp the drinks which i appreciated. We kept trying to order food, and the waitress kept getting frazzled & couldnt take all of our orders at once. One member of the party ordered fish & chips w/ cocktail sauce instead of tartar. When she brought out the food, there was no cocktail. When he asked why, she said they didnt have cocktail sauce. She should have told him that before hand. He probably would have ordered something else. Drinks continued to come out slowly. Eventually, when some of us went out to smoke, the waitress just followed us out there & stared at us. Eventually , she told someone she wanted to close out our tab b/c she was leaving. We were willing to comply. Despite this, she told one member of our party that she couldnt have any more to drink in case she was driving (she wasnt). When she gave us our tickets, they were all wrong - some had double gratuity, some had none. When we went to the bar to get them straightened out, the bartender got angry at us, and he went to get a bouncer. One member of the party eventually spoke to a manager, and i guess she was apologized to. I should mention that RiRa becomes a "club" after 11, and apparently they were anxious to get us out of there - despite the fact that i know we spent close to $500 there. I was so disappointed with the way this happened. Even more disappointing is that i dont want to go to RiRa again. I guess they dont need my kind there anyway. They would rather serve 20 somethings into the wee hours.

Mixed experience. Two friends and I stopped by Saturday night. We first were hanging out at the bar upstairs. The atmosphere was nice, and the service was great. The bartender was attentive and nice. She quickly responded when we needed more drinks or waters. Things went south (no pun intended) when I went downstairs. After waiting at the bar for some time to get the bartenders attention, she finally addressed me in a rude, hurry up kind of way. I tried to order two Old Fashioneds and a Guinness. In about as rude of a way as possible I was told that "I dont have time to make those. Look around. Were busy. What else do you want?" At this time I paused, because I had never been to a bar that told me they were too busy to make a common cocktail. Apparently my pause to reconsider was too long for her liking as she then said, "whatever" and immediately went to someone else. I contemplated whether or not to write a review, but this was seriously my worst experience at a bar uptown. Ive been in Charlotte since 2005. If you dont have time to serve decent cocktails, dont put a full service bar with all the necessary ingredients within plain site. Put up a sign that says you only want wasted college students and youre only going to serve beer and shots. Granted she couldnt have known that I had just tipped $40 on an $80 tab upstairs, and simply treating my friends and me in the same manner as her counterpart upstairs would have likely result in a similarly gracious tip. In reality, that shouldnt matter. Even if for some crazy reason, you cant make a drink, at least attempt to be diplomatic about it. Dont look at me like Im crazy for ordering an Old Fashioned at a bar. This followed another previously poor experience after I brought my friend from Florida and his wife who went to UF in for a UF game. The service was so poor that day, he wanted to leave after one drink. Its just sad. It could be a cool place, but I wont be back.

Best-kept lunch secret in Uptown Charlotte. A co-worker suggested we go there after finding Jacks New York Deli closed. I was expecting crummy bar food but was surprised to find one of THE BEST meals Ive had in Charlotte. I ordered the Fish and Chips (I know, I know) and my friend ordered the battered chicken breast. I am going to have to take a picture of this thing, otherwise Ill be accused of making up a "it was this big!" story. It was also perfectly battered and delicious. The breaded chicken was also a huge portion for lunch and had a light, almost panko style breading with a touch of citrus. Y>U>M> All for about $10 - $15 on their tough-to-choose-delicious menu. Trust me, give this place a shot. Better yet, dont, so I can walk in anytime I want for a great bite.

Ri-Ra Irish Pub was a delight to dine at! I went to this place for the first time with couple of friends. First of all the interior has a rustic atmosphere with a nice ambience. The food was outstanding! For an appetizer we had the Dublin Crab Cakes of which were immaculate and a cup of their cheddar broccoli soup....YUM! For my main meal I had the Irish Stew made with lamb and it was scrumptous. The stew had nice thick tender chunks of meat with fresh vegetables(carrots etc...) in a thick and hearty broth. The food was prepared to perfection. We had the sweetest waitress who was very attentive to our needs. The whole restaurant staff displayed kindness and professionalism. Cleanclassy establishment and reasonable prices. 5 stars hands down!

I think that $10 for an Irish Car Bomb is awesome TWAJ (That was a joke). Also the late night menu was a little bit early for me. I wanted to see a menu at 10 and got a late night menu about 45 minutes later. On the other hand the band was incredible, almost as much as the prehistoric women present at the bar. Definitely check this bar out if you have money to throw away and a half hour to wait for a drink and have a taste for substandard females. Also check out the ropes closing off the outdoor patio, it was good to almost go there.

The service was great, aside from the fact they tried to seat us at a table so slanted that Im sure drinks wouldnt stay on it. Pints and Irish Whiskey selection is nice. Had the special spicy shrimp pasta, it was average at best, and the grilled Tuna was very fishy, not fresh, and cold. Given, I ordered it rare, but it had clearly been sitting for a while. Im sure the traditional pub fare is probably pretty good. I wish I had gone that route. Had I known it was a chain, I wouldnt have gone in.
