After talking with the manager, Andy, at Tyber Creek on South Blvd., I learned of Workmans Friend, which had opened three months prior. We were in town looking for a place to live after accepting a new position, and one of the neighborhoods we considered was Plaza Midwood. Since we were in the area, we stopped at Workmans for a libation. We found a spot at the end of the bar, and the bartender, Chris, quickly attended to our service. We chatted with him about how we ended up at Workmans, and by the time we left that evening, we had made a new Charlotte friend. When we made the move to Charlotte a couple of months later, we stopped back at Workmans, and Chris immediately came over and welcomed us back. I highly recommend The Workmans Friend for a great atmosphere. However, being not of the younger generation, I find that on weekend late nights the bar tends to shift from relaxing, inviting pub and eatery to full on night club. Nothing wrong with that, but its not for me.

Went on Saturday 6/27/15 with three friends at 7:00 pm. Got seated in less than 5 minutes. It wasnt very crowded. But it was LOUD like being in a reverb chamber. They didnt have music playing, this was just a din of sound from the patrons talking. We were seated in the back, away from the bar. And it was DARK, like being in a haunted house at Halloween; we all had to read using lights on our phones. The menu was kinda sparse...I guess theres not much to eat in Ireland except potatoes. The service was okay, but nothing to brag about; our server couldnt hear us order, so it took a while to get things straight. The chips were good, but nothing special. The food was good but not great. So its okay. If Im out with people and they want to go there, and if Im in a good mood, Ill go back. Otherwise, I might just jet over to Bang Bang Burger, eat in peace where I can see, and then head home. I definitely wouldnt want to make an evening of hanging out there.

We decide to "try it new" tonight and found this gem. We started off with the meat and cheese board for the group to share. It was tasty, but I thought pricy for what actually comes on it. We ordered Fish and Chips: they were perfectly fried that the fish was still crumbly; Sausage Board: the sausage was very tasty, the mustard was a bit heavy on the horseradish for me; Shepards Pie: a bite of melt in you mouth deliciousness; Iron Skillet Chicken: moist and flavorful, the sauce compliments it well; Brisket Burger Slider with Quail Eggs: cooked a perfect medium and juicy, great taste. Now for the Desserts! We ordered the seasonal cobbler of blackberry and blueberry cobbler with ice cream: OMG!!! flavor explosion!!! There is also a Beer Garden which we did not venture out too. Check out my pictures of the food I uploaded. This place is a definite one we will return too!

Visiting from Indiana, our friends have taken us to all of their favorite spots in Charlotte. Our trip came to an end with brunch at this wonderful gem of an Irish pub. Workmans Friend has a brilliantly crafted ambiance that radiates from the beautiful bar, deep comfortable seating, and climaxes with a warm fireplace that warms the entire restaurant. We ate off of the brunch menu, and every item was exquisite. The coffee was top tier, and the stuffed French toast is like nothing I have ever eaten. From our experience, Workmans Friend was one of the highlights that will keep us returning to Charlotte for years to come.

Great concept. Food is fantastic for dinner and for Sunday brunch. Live Irish folk music Sunday evenings creates a delightful atmosphere. Irish drink specials on Thursday are a pleasant draw. Staff is almost always very very nice and helpful. Never a long wait for a great quality beverage. On a recent trip for brunch, I made a mistake with my order, but the server Catie and manager Kiera were quick to fix my issue even though it was purely my fault. Customer service like that is how you maintain long term fans.

This place was decent, but it certainly didnt blow anyone at the table away. A little British pub turns into a thumping DJ-fest on weekend evenings, to the point you cannot have a conversation over dinner even at the back of the restaurant. Im not sure who thought it was a good idea, considering there is zero space to dance or party in, but someone must have. Id go here for the fish and chips again, but Id definitely go for lunch instead of dinner.

Food is DELICIOUS. Great cocktails. The interior is beautiful. Only reason for not giving it 5 stars, is one experience there with a particularly rude bartender. He spoke to my friend in a manner that really did not sit well with either of us. Used to frequent the place more before that. Since then, its left kind of a bad taste in my mouth. Ill be back though, for that BURGER. And the chicken liver pate.

Workmans Friend has a calm yet vivacious atmosphere. You can either sit at the bar and talk sports or sit in the back for a romantic date. The service is always on point and the food comes out hot, fresh, tasty and authentic(from my limited experience). There is good selection of beer on tap and the irish coffee is excellent. Have been here several times and the experience has kept me coming back.

Fantastic addition to Plaza Midwood. Authentic atmosphere and delicious, if a bit pricey, food. The patio on Thomas St. is very enjoyable, especially the fireplace on Fall evenings. Workmans Friend participates in Bicycle Benefits and offers a 10% discount on food for patrons who ride to the restaurant. Ample bike parking on the Thomas St. side of the building.

Food was okay. Took forever even though the place was EMPTY. My friend got tired of waiting on them so he went across the street and got something else and when we told the waitress she got an attitude with us and continuously was rude to us afterward. She also sort of threw the check at me like it was our fault our friend left. Not going back.

Great food and drinks. The Irish coffee is superb!!! Also, the Kerry Gold truffle Mac and cheese, the burgers/hand-cut thick potato fries, and bacon brussel sprouts are some of the best Ive had anywhere. They have live Irish music on Sundays and the interior is very authentic of an Irish pub. Charlotte is lucky to have such a gem of a place.

This is an awesome spot for cocktails and craft beer. Drake is a fantastic server, he is attentive and has a great sense of humor. As far as food goes, the Irish American is great and the working mans burger is the best burger in the CLT. Definitely check it out, wonderful atmosphere, drinks and food. Ask for Drake!

Heart English/Irish Pub atmosphere. Food reflects that as well. I tend to go at slower times & get a peaceful experience. Its not too pricey but not cheap either. They make a great Shepards pie but its a bit more than I can eat in one sitting. So I like to bring a friend to share it with.

Great food, exceptional service, and drinks are wonderfully made. If its the season I suggest trying their seasonal house made drink "winters mule," great creation. This is definitely a great place to hang. Servers and bartenders are welcoming and engaging. Job well done all!
