This use to be my husband and my favorite place to eat out! The food is great but unfortunately the service is horrible. The woman behind the counter is so rude. They often finish making your food, set it on the counter and dont tell you it is done. The food is often cold. The woman behind the counter often forgets to give the complementary chips and when you ask for them, be prepared for the glare of a lifetime. Odd policies for refills and extras. Example: Ordered a burrito to split asked for the sour cream on the side. They forgot to put it on the side. When asked again the woman said it would be $1 for the sour cream on the side. The sour cream is already included in the price of the burrito....didnt get sour cream on the side :( It is too bad because we really do enjoy the food and we live within walking distance but unfortunately we will no longer be customers at Calafia, just one to many bad experiences.

Thats NOT a burrito. I grew up in SF, and everybody who has ever been to the Mission knows that a soft burrito is full of rice and beans and has little meat. This place skimps on the meat, down to the condiments and chips! That lady at the register is downright RUDE (Maria!). I thought she was just having a bad day, but she was equally rude the second time I dined there. A friend said, "Dont take it personally. Shes rude every day." I do take it personally — Im giving her my money and my business. The place is cozy, even the seats outside. But until the service and the food improves, Im taking my business elsewhere and recommending a better place to my friends.

I was part of the Alameda BBQ and Blues festival. Not a single BBQ food truck had a vegan choice. Found this gem in the middle of the festival. Excellent Salsa bar: about 8 different choices varying from pico to roasted salsa and cucumber salad. Not to mention the chips are crispy and homemade. I had the grilled vegetarian burrito which also happened to be vegan. Probably one of the best Ive had in recent memory. Had the usual grilled onions and peppers in addition to zucchini, carrots and pieces of avocado(not guacamole, which worked very well). Beans and rice as well of course. Overall very flavorful and affordable. Cost me less than $10.

Watched this place open up years ago and it is a quaint place, family owned, houses about 10-11 small tables, food is of good quality, I can find better Mexican food three blocks away but I suppose it is a matter of taste and the owner finally added more to the menu some years ago but I love Menudo and I am very lucky if I get it on only Sat or Sun, and I think he cut it to one day, not sure.....parking lot next door and after hours I believe no money IA needed, not certain. ......the gals who work fast and hard at cooking are so very sweet, always. ....

Good hefty mission-style burritos. They do a good job with the grilled chicken. Theres a small salsa bar with a decent variety of salsas to spice things up. This is in a less-hectic part of Alameda with easy parking and various shops and ice cream places within a block or two. Prices are pretty low but theres a lot of nickle-and-diming here with signs everywhere ($1 soda refills, charge for credit card, extra charge for spinach tortilla, etc.) Also, check your order--we were shorted a taco on our last visit.

I just moved to Alameda and was surprise that Califas Taqueria lives to the name one of the best Taqueria I had a super burrito with extra meat. My drink was a large tamarindo I have to say it was good. The place is very Mexican decor. The cashier very fast. Service was great and the smells of the food being cooked can smell it outside most mission taquerias smells dont make it outside. The picture of the burrito in the bag is big and weighs what a burrito should be like.

Do you love Salsa Verde? Go here. This place has THE BEST Tamales I have EVER had. You think the Tamales they sell at Costco are good? This place is BETTER. They do NOT use Lard, which means lower fat, and it has MORE flavor. They have really good flavor on the OUTSIDE, in addition to great flavor on the inside! Plus, they taste GREAT with Salsa Verde on top!! <3 Plus the staff are really chill!

Was overcharged by a couple of bucks, my order came out totally wrong, and the woman behind the counter said—without any trace of apology—that its all my fault. There are some places where the food is so good, Ill overlook a certain amount of BS to eat there. This... is not one of those places. Nope, never going back.

The best Mexican food on Alameda Island. I live a couple blocks away and this has become my go-to place for some great Mexican food. Everything is reasonably priced and delicious. My favorite is any kind of taco they have. I think their salsas are a little on the spicy side, but I think most people enjoy that fact.

Worlds least accommodating taqueria. Theyve served stale chips more than once, and are constantly out of horchata. The salsa bar and sympathetic staff save them from being one-star, but I only come here when the other taqueria is closed. I suspect they get most of their business when the bar next door closes.

Just ordered the veg burrito, heres what I came with: vegetables and black beans. Where is my rice, salsa, guacamole or cheese or sour cream?! Taste pretty bland, Im surprised this is called a burrito. Not only that your vegetables are too big, I cant eat them. I had to put my burrito in a bowl.

I dont know whether someplace is authentic, but the burritos were delicious and the flavors are much more blended than what you get in a Chipotle style restaurant. Lots of choices, open late with free parking after 6, Spanish music/tv, friendly staff, and delicious food. What more do you need?

HUGE portions, affordable prices, good food.... count me in! The fish tacos are good, but sometimes theres a bit too much cabbage on top. The burrito is like the size of a small baby, so only get it if youre starving or count on taking the rest with you. Free chips and salsa bar!

Beware the cashier. She took my $20 and refused to give change for it. She insisted that I had given her $10 instead and refused to acknowlege my insistence that I had given her $20. I dont know if she was honestly mistaken, or if it was intentional. But just beware.

Ive been here couple of times. I was excited when i found this place which is walking distance from my house. But sadly enough this place has the worst customer service in town. Very rude and their foood is not authentic Mexican food. very disappointed..

Very good food, for prices that are more than fair for the quantity. The (steak) tacos were very good, and the carnitas torta was good as well, though a little too soggy with avocado (which isnt always a bad thing). Free ships and (good) salsa, too!

Grilled veggie burrito is excellent and relatively healthy. Chicken super burrito is everything you want a chicken supper burrito to be. FIsh tacos are just like the real thing in Ensenada. Home made salsas are excellent. Our go-to taquewria
