First of all if I could give the British Open Pub a minus 5 I would. However the prime rib on Wednesday night is delicious. We called to get reservations but they do not take reservations for 2. She said we didnt need them for just 2. They only take them for 4 or more. So we asked what time they started serving prime rib and she said 5. So we got there a little before 5 thinking we were early enough to beat the crowd and when we walked in they had all these empty tables of 4. But since there were only 2 of us they wanted to seat us in the middle of the restaurant in the middle of the traffic pattern and we could have had a conversations with the people on either side of us. We asked if we could sit at one of the tables which were vacant and she said they were reserved. What? The hostess said she was sorry. So we just left and went somewhere else. Poor customer service! If you dont take reservations for 2 and the place is as small and loud as it is, it should be first come first serve. But what do I know? Something similar happened to us last year. They seated us at a small table near the bar and it was so loud we asked if we could move to another table. We couldnt even hear each other talk. We may never go in there again. Something needs to change in their seating policies.

I love love love this pub! My sister and I have always visited the island several times a year since childhood. And so happy we decided to try this pub. The atmosphere goes with the name. And the food is unbelievable! Excellent beerl, wine and cocktail selection and the bar is amazing! The staff were friendly and accommodating. Which was amazing considering how busy they were. And even though they were packed, our food still arrived in a very reasonable amount of time, and of course it was super yummy! We tried the appetizer of Pub Wellingtons, and then we had the fish n chips, and the pecan crusted cod, seafood cooked to perfection, and oh my the desserts, yummy yum yum, Homemade bread pudding and the Chocolate cake is to die for! Cant wait to go back! They deserve a few more stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Its hard to rate a place when you cant even get a table. When we walked in we told the hostess we would like a table for 2. She said she had nothing available and my husband asked if we had needed to make a reservation. She said they dont take reservations, but the several empty tables were saved for people who had called ahead. I asked if we needed to step outside and call ahead to be put on the waiting list and she said again they dont take reservations but she usually recommends people call when theyre on theyre way to get a table (isnt that a reservation??). We were so confused and she was SO rude and condescending when we were just trying to get on a wait list as this 31 week pregnant woman was starving after a 5 hour drive into town. We ended up going to Reillys which was AMAZING. Go there instead!!

Hostesses at door are not friendly. We have been here twice and this has been our experience both times. We went for brunch and sat for about 8 minutes before the waitress who had been chatting with the unfriendly hostess decided to come over and talk to us. We had to ask for the scones that they have advertised on menu. But do ask as they are delicious. I ordered the fish and chips and they were nice, The coleslaw was not worth the calories,. My husband had steak and eggs. Steak was chewy but cooked as he requested. Our waitress was pleasant, but acted like she would love to be anywhere else but there. Not be hurrying back here. Too many other good places.

Food was good and a decent selection of import beers. I had the steak and mushroom pie and it was a big portion for your price that you pay (being from england i have had this when at home in england). The owner / hostess (not sure if she was the owner or not) was watching and listening to our conversation while waiting for our food and during when we were eating which we found to be very rude. They were also teaching a new waitress we had to tell her our drink order 4 times before she finally got it right and no one helped her at all during this time. But other than those things it is a good place but not truely english

Excellent! We truly enjoyed our time at the British Open Pub. My wife and I both had the seafood platter. Wow. It was outstanding. Fresh Cod, scallops, and shrimp - all which were wonderfully prepared. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The hostess was extremely friendly, and we had delightful service. Next time we travel to Hilton Head, the British Open Pub will be high on our list as to where we will dine.

Friendly waitress. In fact, all the waiters/waitresses stayed busy. My husband had the Shepard Pie... very tasty. I ordered the fish and chips. It was good; however, when I read the prior reviews, my expectations were really high...and it didnt quite meet what I anticipated. Fish was tasty, but my batter was soggy. I didnt say anything...dont make a habit of returning food. I would return there though.

Great food with a British flare. We got tried the ROYAL LYTHAM BEEF COTTAGE PIE, which is their version of Shepherds Pie. It was was good, but not the best thing we tried. We also got the ST. ANDREWS FISH AND CHIPS. Classic British fish and chips that will not disappoint. The star of course was the LOBSTER POT PIE; rich, creamy, and full of lobster.... Yumm! I want some now.

Very disappointed. Whenever Im in South Carolina shopping. I always eat here. I was looking forward to taking my husband here for the first time. We walk in and were told to sit anywhere. We picked the only clean booth that had a tv so we could watch the match. Really hard to show husband how great the fish and chips are when nobody comes to take your order.

Ordered seafood platter broiled, food was chewy. Waitress blamed us for not letting her know the first time she approached table, but the food hadnt been tried yet. Said she had to charge us for the salad and shrimp as sides since they were eaten...ridiculous, not our fault. Lobster roll is good but messy. Onion rings arent worth the money, came out cold.

One of my "must-dine" location when vacationing at HHI. Simply the best fish n chips on the East Coast. The ribeye is stellar and the prime rib on Tuesday nights is Chicago-worthy. For many years Ive resisted commenting on the British Open Pub fearing it would get crowed but the dining is simply too good not to share.

They serve a proper platter of fish and chips. I have been to several European countries. This is undoubtedly the best fish and chips in America, and even better than the fish and chips I had at the Green Man Pub in London. You might say they have the best fish and chips on either side of the pond.
