I admit to being a little bit prejudiced, here. Im a breakfast freak. I love eating breakfast in its myriad forms. I love eggs & omelettes, pancakes & French toast, grits & sausage. I make time for breakfast every morning and put a lot of thought into creating a varied experience for myself at home. When the family goes out to breakfast together (breakfast being my favorite meal for which to travel), RiseNShine winds up being the destination roughly 75% of the time. The service is nice - the ladies that wait the tables have been there since the beginning and are New Jersey Diner Waitresses, guaranteed to call you "Hon" and "Sweetie" and to provide that little bit of surliness that warms the cockles of my New Jersey-born heart. The environment is fine as well, being a standard New Jersey diner setup of chairs and booths. What separates this place from the millions of diners in New Jersey is the menu. The menu has a rich assortment of breakfast treats, from your standard lumberjack plate to more exotic specialty items. Among the favorites: the Bird of Paradise French Toast, which is a favorite of mine - French toast with almonds in the batter, served with a fruit medley; and the simple Bagel Eyes, which is a poached egg and cheese served on a bagel, with grits. There are the usual trillion omelette choices, egg & potato dishes, pancakes dishes and such, with the addition of a lunch / dinner menu. Highly recommended, particularly if you live in the area and like breakfast.

I think I have found my "go-to" restaurant. Its not much to look at, with the chipped tiles, worn benches, and other Assorted signs of age, but in my opinion, thats not important. The food and the service are what counts, and my experience with both on my first visit were excellent. My only complaint is a minor one. The bread on my patty melt was a bit soggy. But the rest, from the crispy and tasty fries, to the Cole slaw and pickle, were fantastic. Even the brown gravy tasted like my favorite diner when I was a kid. I will be back. A lot.

Ive been to this place several times. At first, I thought it was ok, but its progressively gotten worse! The food is not that good and there are a couple of waitresses that take forever to attend you. For example, one time I asked for a box for my unfinished food, and the waitress never gave me one. After 15 minutes, I got up and caught her eating behind the counter. There arent even that many people that go there. Their pancakes are tasteless and Ive tasted much better scrambled eggs than that! Very disappointing. IHOP is much better.

Rise and Shine is a great place to go for that authentic diner experience. The food is very good. Their french toast is to die for and their waffles. You receive so much food that you can never eat it all. The waitresses are very nice and the place stays full with people. That lets you know right there that it is a great place to grab a bite to eat. Im glad Plainfield has Rise and Shine.

I dont know how this place is in business? My family & I stopped in one evening since we were in the area and none of us liked our meals! Food was not fresh and tasted like it was reheated. Service was slow and not that great neither. Waitress couldnt answer questions about menu items.

I love it there the food is great and service is great as well. Once in a while theyll have a new waitress that still doesnt have down packed but most of the staff have been there for years and they fantastic. Great place to go. Please visit.

I was seated immediately and after waiting between five and 10 minutes for waitress, I got up and walked out. No one cared one way or the other that I was leaving . It was very slow. Waitresses just standing around.

Grease on the booth and food under the table where I sat with my husband this morning for breakfast. This place needs a cleaning crew to keep it always neat. I hate to walk out with food stick under my shoes

Slow and bad service. Their food is ok, maybe the reason why they are still in business is because their low prices. But id rather go somewhere else next time. There are better diners around.
