I used to come here years ago when I worked in St. Paul. I decided to go there for my husbands birthday because he wanted Mexican food and I remembered La Cucaracha as being quite yummy. We drove from the western suburbs and had other folks drive from Oakdale and Rogers, MN just to meet us there. I was utterly disappointed in the experience and felt so bad that these people drove so far. We had reservations and our table was ready right away which was great. The server was friendly so that was good. I was not happy to hear that we now have to pay for chips and salsa but...I guess that is a sign of the times. We ordered our food and then proceeded to wait...and wait...and wait...and wait...and wait. We were only a table of 7 people so it isnt like we were a huge group. People that were seated AFTER us got their food, ate and were packing up to leave before we got anything. My guests were getting really irritated and I was feeling like I made the wrong choice. I hoped the food would be so good that it would make up for the wait. The food arrived and I must say that I was less than impressed. There was no flavor at all with my enchiladas. My father couldnt even finish his food because the chorizo was not good at all. Others ate their food, not because it was that wonderful, but because we were absolutely starving. The bill came and there was an error (getting charged extra for a side of beans that never arrived with one persons order). When the server came with the check, she said there was gratuity already added to it but we could put more on if we wanted to. Yeah...right... For some reason, I had a thought that morning that I should cancel the reservation and go to Boca Chica instead. I really wish I had done that. So disappointed and no plans to ever return again.

It had been some time I hadnt come to eat, and I was a bit nervous about all of the bad recent reviews. Well, let me tell you, Im so glad I decided to organize a group of girls night out last minute on a Monday night! Staff is still the hard working, polite and pleasing people, from bartender to servers and cook, committed to continue bringing forward the Flores family business. Margaritas are the best in town, expensive? well thats because they are the experts in making them and they use the good stuff. The food is very authentic, traditional and homemade flavor using their own recipes. Yes, it would be nice to get back some chips and salsa to nibble on for free as you sit, I must admit I missed that, but this didnt ruin the experience, the service and the great taste of the drinks and food. We had a pitcher of the strawberry margarita, enchiladas suizas, tacos (grilled fish) and ole mole with chicken delociosooooo. It wont be long until I come back. Classic, traditional Mexican family restaurant in St. Paul, which everyone should come try. Olé and bravo!

I saw the prices and expected it to be a step above the rest and instead it was two steps below. A couple days before I payed $8.50 for 4 awesome enchiladas (chx, beef, bean, cheese...however I wanted it) with rice and beans, at this place I payed $10 for 3 and they all had to be the same thing and I had to pay $2.50 more for rice and beans. The rice and beans werent bad but the enchiladas (beef) were awful. Also, when I asked if they had any sort of Enchilada Supremas (common amongst most all Mexican restaurants as 1 of ea. enchilada), the server then said to me, "This isnt a f***ing Taco Bell". Although it was joking, I had my wife and son with me and thats just not acceptable. I wish I HAD gone to Taco Bell...I wouldve paid a fraction of the cost and at least wouldve somewhat enjoyed the food. I normally dont write reviews and especially bad ones...but this place deserves the negative review from me.

Just got home from eating at this great restaurant and I must say that the Margarita was fantastic and our dinner was very tasty. I had the Ole Mole that was wonderful (large portions). The service was extremely friendly and quick. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and answered all of our questions. Over all, it was a great experience and we even found free parking in the back of the building. We will for sure come again. Great area right off of the wonderful neighborhood of Grand and Dale, St. Paul. UPDATE: Yet again, weve had consistent, delicious meals here and highly recommend going for a fun Mexican dinner experience! OLAY! Ate here last night... and still received fantastic, quick, friendly service along with outstanding food. LOVE THIS PLACE!!!

Went there for dinner then the next morning for breakfast because it was THAT GOOD! Idk what all these negative reviews are for because this place is fantastic! If I wouldve listened to those negative Nancys I would have missed out on a great restaurant. My fiancé and I LOVE this place and will be making this our regular spot. The chips and salsa were fresh and crispy to perfection. Salsa was perfect, not like marinara like that snooty person said. I had chilaquiles and my fiancé had the beef enchilada plus two large margaritas. I cant rave enough about the amazing flavors, authenticity, friendly service, and all around great ambience of this restaurant. My shout outs to the chef for making bomb food and the staff for being so nice! 10/10 would recommend.

The entire experience was AWFUL!! My daughter and I stopped there on Sat afternoon for a bite to eat! They were not that busy, service was slow & you had to pay for chips (which were grease soaked & cold). The food was nothing spectacular and would not bring me back. The worse part of the experience was when we were eating a mouse ran across the floor and stopped right in front of our table. We could not get any wait staff attention - so my daughter put the chips basket over the mouse so we could leave our table. The waitress had the nerve to say - not much she could do about it but she would be willing to offer us a dessert or remove the charge for one of our beverages!! It was a complete JOKE! I would never recommend this place to anyone!!

One of those worst-experience-ever dinners. We were ignored when we walked in (hostesses casually chatted until ready to greet and seat us); everything was super pricey; and the food was terrible. I ordered the enchilada mole - heres what I imagine their process entails: they microwave some frozen enchiladas, throw a handful of cinnamon on top to disguise the terrible, rubbery texture/ taste, then cover with sauce. The side dish with rice was good; the rest made me ill. So, my entree was about $13.00 - you could easily do better at one of the local Vietnamese, Thai, or Italian places. This restaurant is all Grand Avenue attitude with nothing to back it up. DONT EAT HERE.

My husband and I went there about 2 weeks ago with some friends and had a very nice experience. Our waitress was very attentive. Both she and the manager came over several times to make sure that everything was to our satisfactory which we very much appreciated. We were very well taken care of. The food was delicious! This was the most authentic Mexican food weve had since moving to MN from TX! Although, the prices were moderate to high it was well worth every penny! The margaritas were sooooo good and they were not lacking in alcohol. It was the exactly what was needed to go with this wonderful meal.! We will most definitely be back!
