I was very excited when I heard about this place opening. We love living in Saint Paul but end up eating in Minneapolis a lot because it frankly has more to offer dining-wise. I soon learned that this new place was not affiliated with the other two Socials, two of the best and our favorite spots in the city. I realize that the other places certainly dont own the word social, but I still feel that something about using it in the way 7th Street has seems slightly bold and un-original, especially since its quality doesnt come close. Weve been there 3 times now, since its close and we really want to support our neighborhood. I think they might have struck out with us though. The ambiance is alright, nice enough place. The food is just OK. The first time we went I had the smoked chicken wings and thought they were really good. But the next time, they were REALLY salty and something seemed different about the crispy outside. The last time we went, we ordered burgers medium-rare that came out quite well-done, a disappointing sign that this place just isnt ready to compete around here. The biggest disappointment though has been the service. Especially the last time, it was close to terrible. When we came in, we were led to a table but ended up stopping along the way to check in with another table or something, REALLY? At one point, while our server was talking to us, she had to stop and wait while another surly server who had been scowling all night BELLOWED across the restaurant standing right next to our table, and she had to start over. We were never asked if we wanted dessert or more drinks, just had the check left like our welcome was over. Im not sure how not to sound like a snob saying this, but it seems like theyve hired help that has never experienced or appreciated the type of service a place like this should have in a city like this. Im being harsh because I really want them to succeed, but I fear the owner doesnt really understand what it takes to compete in these two cities that have such stiff competition and so many phenomenal options.

I think theyve given up. I was there on a Saturday night at 7pm with my wife and newborn son. The place was more or less empty and our experience was more or less empty as well. Our server was friendly, but it was clear he didnt want to be there. We ordered cocktails and they came after 15 minutes. A significant portion of my drink was spilled when it was put to table with no effort to clean it up or refill it. Im a whiskey guy so I tried the Wickd Good. The name was not fitting - more like Wickd bitter, over-iced, junky $10 cocktail. I probably could of tried it after I pissed it out and it would of tasted better. My wife ordered a cocktail that included ginger beer only to be told that they were out of ginger beer and added more prosecco instead when they brought it. Information that would of been useful 15 minutes ago. For dinner, I ordered the Ruben w/ fries and my wife the Charcuterie plate. They brought hers out and she noticed there were no olives on the plate (one of the main reasons she ordered it). She asked and they told her oh, yeah, we only have the olives sometimes.. Wow, thats brilliant service. My Ruben was god awful - the meat was tough, fatty and the sandwich was poorly put together. They brought chips instead of fries, which were soggy and almost inedible. I would of sent them back, but didnt see our server for 20 minutes after our food was dropped. Dont go here.. really, dont. Save your money. Im a gambling man and if someone was willing to take my action, Id make a large wager that they will be shut down within the next 6 months. Im looking forward to the next burger joint or craft cocktail spot that goes in when they file for banko and shut their doors.

My Fiancée had made reservations here for Valentines Day because she had been excited to try it out. When we were seated there were about 10 other couples in the entire back room at tables. We waited for 10-15 minutes before a waitress finally asked us if we had been helped yet. We were about to walk out and she said she would be happy to help. We stayed and the drinks came quickly after we had ordered but then it took a turn for the worst. The server complained to us that she had 14 tables to the other servers who only had 2. She also said the new girl didnt know what she was doing. For us to place our orders a second server appeared and took the order. The food was alright. There were large peppercorns that hadnt even been crushed yet in the meals. When we looked at the dessert menu, the special was a snickers bar but we had already had such poor service and couldnt wait to leave. When we tried to go, we had to wait another 15 minutes for our server to even bring back the credit card. Needless to say, I will not be recommending this restaurant or returning. I usually do not give reviews online, but this one has really irked me. If as a business you know that a major "date night" is upon you as Valentines Day is, proper preparation should be made so the night goes flawlessly and the couples dont worry about service. Our highlight of the night was going to Dairy Queen afterwards for a cone and a malt, not an overpriced dessert which cost more than the small plates (appetizers) on the menu and where even the high schooler working behind the counter knows not to complain about how their night is going even though she is swamped.

Extremely disappointed and will not be back. The ambiance, food and service was way below average. When we first got there we asked to be seating away from the cold door. So the hostess seats us next to a drafted back door. After ordering and waiting ONE HOUR, we notice two other tables, who were seated after us and with a different waitress, have their food. Just as I said something to the hostess, because we havent seen our waitress in a half hour, our food comes outs. Still not ok, but they shrugged it off like it was no big deal. THEN THE HORRIBLE FOOD...both sandwiches were so sloppy we had to eat them with forks. Flavor didnt shinning through the sloppiness either, it tasted as bad as it looked. The fries were supper soggy and gross. The waitress never stopped back to ask us if everything was ok. I picked at my sandwich, which was obvious according to my plate that I wasnt happy, but the waitress was oblivious all night, why would she pick up on this? She brought us the wrong beer, and we waited forever again for our bill. We were charged for mayo when we substituted it for blue cheese and charged for the wrong beer. We sat so long and were so annoyed, we didnt argue the bill. Needless to say we tipped very little to make up for everything. WE WILL NOT BE BACK!

I was excited to celebrate my birthday with friends here. I really try and support new venues in St. Paul and especially in the West 7th neighborhood. Some of us met early for happy hour (decent prices and menu) the rest came later for dinner which was good, if overpriced. Our server must have been new. He got flustered easily and completely goofed up our bill. However, the worst was the manager. When someone in our party commented on the $3.00 up charge for a drink “on the rocks” she became defensive and rude. She challenged different members of the group and gave, quite possibly, was the worst example of customer service I have ever witnessed. I have never seen anything like it. Days later I am still shocked by her behavior. It is too bad. We are all St. Paul people who enjoy going dining out. We were excited for a new option in St. Paul and looking forward to supporting the a new place. Now, all of us have vowed not to go back. Bummer.
