Id rate it 4 or 5 stars, but live near by, go there frequently and management must be running lean on everything because any time of day or night, no matter who is working, they have too few servers. Somebody walks in the door +3 minutes that food of yours is waiting on counter. I dont think Ive ever had a meal the was truly hot, because itll sit there for usually 10 minutes, to which you hope its not yours and that its coming up. Its convenient, food is decent, but watching your food cool for 10 minutes because some manager wants to give out the minimum hours is quite obvious. Do everyone a favor and get an extra server, Id eat there twice as much, easily, if I didnt know it was going to be so much waiting. Waiting fine, food just sitting there getting cold for 10 minutes, being the norm, you lost a fan who would have been a regular. Im sure Im not the only one who feels this way... Go any time, youll see your cool because you cant get it yourself though its 10 feet away. Bottom line, if you come here, expect to wait no matter what (not the servers fault) and watch your food cool for a spell. As your hunger churns you can rest assured, its always like this. I wish so much that there was another diner around, but this is down the street and its 24 hours. But not once in 10+ times of eating there have I gotten my plate in less than 10 minutes when the cool places it on the counter ready to go... Maybe I should have just left it at warm food at best, but I hate how they always put their servers in a no win situation, because youre lucky if you get a refill on that pop with how they run things. The owner replies on here, but I dont see any improvement after 5 months. I dont think Im in the minority with that thought. Im trying to be fair to but Ive spent an average of watching my food get cold every time of the course of 10+ trips there and every time, its because theyre short staffed. Guess at least theyre consistent. I have no problem with anyone else working there who is doing their job, but the manager is out to lunch and they aint eating and The Nicollet Diner.

I have to start by mentioning that i have NEVER, no matter how great or terrible, written a review for ANY product, service or establishment. And until today, i cant recall EVER getting up and walking out of a restaurant after only using the restroom and ordering a glass of water. The woman who sat me (who also seemed to be managing or at least running her shift) was very friendly. She seemed to be in the process of delegating and overseeing tasks, judging by the server who was apologizing for some task she hadnt yet completed but was on her way to start. I walked in craving french fries and a malt. After looking over the great options on the menu, i would need more time deciding what i wanted. I headed towards the bathroom and on my way walked through a puddle of water from the leaking ceiling. In the bathroom there were 3 stalls. 1 was missing a door. But it had t.p. and a SEEMINGLY clean seat. The second had drop of blood on the seat. The 3rd, handicap accessible stall, had a trash can filled to the rim with bloody tampons and the toilet seat and bowl had urine them. Apparently long enough for the pee spots to look more like a piss popsicle melted and dried there. I chose the stall with no door. I went to the share (women & men) wash room where the garbages were each filled to the top and bbq sauce next to the sink long enough to get dry and sticky. On my way to the table i talked myself into at least giving the food a try: "Cooks dont clean the bathrooms", i told myself. I sat back down put my straw in my water and watch the dead bug swirl around my cub. As a i stared at the bug, my server Sean, asked if i was ready to order. I told him sorry but i had to pass. I REALLY wanted my damn french fries and malt! :-(

We got there about 10 am on a Sunday, and the place was mostly full. Good for them. It was cold, and I had been hoping to get hot chocolate, which they didnt have. Bummer. But it was ok, because I was really craving biscuits and gravy, and they did have that. However, we had to wait around 15 minutes for the server to come back after giving us water so we could place our order. I ordered the biscuits with country gravy, and my boyfriend got a skillet. He was offered a choice of English muffin, white, or wheat toast. We found out later that they also had biscuits (which were listed on the menu to be fair), sourdough, and rye toast (which were not). The server told our table-neighbors this, but not us. When we got our food (about 45 minutes after getting there), it was...disappointing. My gravy had mushrooms in it, which are not a standard part of country gravy, not listed on the menu, and I hate. The hashbrowns were cooked well, but had no seasoning at all. The scrambled eggs looked kind of rubbery and were just as bland as the hashbrowns. To quote my boyfriend, the food wasnt terrible, it was just kind of sad. Very bland, mediocre food with a long wait. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt since theyre new, but the hostess was saying that theyve already "worked out all the kinks", so I dont know. Overall, not worth the year and a half I waited for them.

Second chance and they just failed miserably. Asked for a Coke, sorry no carbonation!... ok.... I guess that could happen, but when you get almost three bucks for a soda, it is very foolish to not have it available. Forty five minutes to receive food and they were not busy. The cooks plain suck at their job! Way too slow and unorganized. Asked for whole wheat toast, they were OUT. No Coke and no whole wheat. Wow! My friend ordered strawberries with his french toast.... they never arrived. My Omelet was very tasty, the server said, they messed up on the American fries so he wold be bringing out more because they ran out...... they never came! And it was so fricken cold in there I would have given $20 for a blanket! Like I said, the first time was miserable, we convinced ourselves they had a bad day, so we tried again.... NOPE, that is normal operating procedures. They are poorly managed. Too bad! We could use more late night places, But I will NOT return.

I was in Minneapolis for a tech conference and staying down the street at the Hyatt. I ate here 3 times and I would have eaten here for all my meals but I didnt want to seem like Teddy from Bobs Burgers. The service was excellent. Helpful, friendly but not in that obnoxious, phony sit-down-next-to-you-and-go-thru -the menu-together-Applebees way that I cant stand. The cash register went down once and the next time I went the heaters went out. The waitress didnt skip a beat or take it out on the customers. I would have been in tears. The hamburger was excellent and I would have left my husband to marry the hot fudge malt I had. The french toast was the best I have ever had. The only bad thing is the servings are so big that I will have to leave my hash browns behind as I cant tote them around with me at my conference. Oh my God I just noticed that they have tons outlets at the counter so patrons can charge their devices!super clean and lots of character.
