I wanted to eat there tonight. They were participating in the Dining Out For Life program and I appreciate they are making a large donation of their proceeds for the evening. I also respect that they are busy and successful. But when I called this afternoon they said I could call ahead and get on a waiting list, that the list usually starts forming around 6:30. I called at 6:35 and was told it would take an hour to 1.5 hours to get a table. That worked for me as I was meeting my wife after work for dinner around 7:30. So I showed up at 7:20 and was told it would be an hour! It was explained to me that since they dont seat incomplete parties, they immediately highlight complete parties and bump them up on the list. So what, I ask you, is the point of making a list over the phone? Who was I really ahead of? I guess I was ahead of other people who called ahead but were getting rammed down the list, never to get a table, but what good does that do me? Its not like my name came up and they tried to call me to a table - they just pushed me back down the list as people showed up. Im sure they were exceptionally busy for a Thursday because of the event, but I bet that on any nice, summer evening this same thing happens. I probably wont bother trying again. We went down the street and got a table right away at the under-appreciated Pierres Bistro and had a lovely, classic French meal with outstanding service.

On my first visit, the food was awesome and the waiter was beyond courteous and left us alone for the perfect amount of time. I also love the decorations in the place and the presentation of the food. On the second visit taking my family, the waitress never refilled my coffee cup throughout the meal and then insisted that I had to pay for another cup of coffee if I wanted coffee to go. I have never heard this before from any spot. The visit was very much dampened by her inattentive and poor service, and Im not sure that I want to pay that much money again to not to be served a cup of coffee. When I inquired about where some of the decorations were obtained from, she also didnt even try to *pretend* she would see if she could mention something to the owner when she passed by her.

The Blackbird is urban chic no doubt. A nice place to mingle with good company indeed. The front house staff was spot on. The menu is a bit scattered and semi limited, the food is fresh and seems the kitchen tries to over do it. I had the ceviche and thought i got the wrong order at first. It looked like baby greens floating in soup. Trying to dip your fingers in a bowl of jalapeño soup in order to wrap tiny chunks of shrimp and veg into a micro lettuce leaf left my fingers on fire for hours. Let the cooks google the image of ceviche and use a plate perhaps? The curry is way too sweet and the plastic they wrap around the sticky rice is horrible. The wine was good. Id go back, but not for the food.

Accommodating and friendly service and straightforward menu in an up and coming neighborhood. Our party of three had the blood orange salad, burger of the day and scallops plus an order of fries. All was quite tasty. The ambiance is quirky yet upscale. My only criticism is that the portions could be larger and the pretense could be smaller...Im not saying that the place is pretentious but it is rather like they are trying a bit too hard. By a strange twist of fate this was my second visit to this restaurant in as many visits to the city. I had just forgotten that I had been here before. Anyway, both times were good. :)

Food is great, but service is terrible 4 out of 5 times. Weve been coming here for years (their sausage is amazing!), but lately weve been getting worse and worse service with each visit. Last time we were there the waitress told us that wed have to wait 15 minutes for a table (we had 6 adults and 3 babies)even though the place was half empty. We saw that there were a few tables that could be pushed together, but she told us that she cant do that and that wed have to wait. We ended up getting our food to go because by the time they seated us, gave us our drinks, and put the order in all 3 kids were done.

I met up with a couple old friends from MN here in December, and we were not impressed. It just didnt have a good vibe, and the whole place looked like it was trying too hard to be more than it was. If this were a restaurant in LA, it wouldnt last long. The food was definitely overpriced, was not of all that high quality, and our server, Brazil, came off as very pompous. We decided on appetizers and drinks instead of full meals. She was not pleased with this choice, and she proceeded to be very rude to us for the rest of our time. I would not recommend this place.

Please chew carefully when visiting this establishment. You may find hair or other foreign objects. If you have the nerve to point this out to the staff, the owner will come to your table. She will accuse you of planting the hair/foreign objects in your own food. She may be wearing a tin foil hat when she says this. Then she will loudly yell "Hair Happens!" In a crowded Minneapolis breakfast restaurant market hair may happen, but bad customer service does not. Please chew slow and careful.

I ate here at peak brunch hour on a Sunday. The wait time was about 45 minutes (the reason for a 4 not a 5 star). The inside was very welcoming and can seat many people. There is bar seating but I sat in a booth (very cozy). The food is AMAZING: plated perfectly and tastes like any home cooked meal you have ever had. I devoured the Sweet Potato Biscuits and Gravy and was extremely satisfied with the customer service even though the place was packed. Highly recommend for brunch goers.

Blackbird actually gets 3.5 stars from me. The menu is creative and varied, making it the ideal option for vegetarian/meat-eaters as well as adventurous/picky. The bahn-mi and the Swedish pancakes are amazing. The only sore spots were that my cappuccino barely had any foam on it...it was more of a cafe au lait, my poached eggs were not quite as runny as I would have expected, and my husband ordered a side of fries that while fresh and amazing were lacking their aioli dipping sauce.

The food was quite good, but the service really spoiled the night. Slow is an understatement. We would go long periods of time with no food, no drinks, no check-in. At one point I even had to go to the bar to get my water refilled. Our server appeared to take a meal in the back with her and disappear for an extended period of time. It was disappointing considering the food was quite good, but at $120 for two people, I dont think it is unreasonable to expect a little more.

Went here for brunch on New Years Day and it was a great experience! Wait time was about an hour expected on a holiday. Atmosphere is really fun. Lots of options for a vegetarian like myself. They have great coffee and cool cocktails made with beer instead of liquor. I got the tofu scramble and upgraded the hash browns to cheesy which you definitely should do if you like cheese like I do. Definitely will be back.
