Ive been here a few times and loved it so far. Unfortunately, our visit today after the Twins opener was frustrating because of a rather inattentive server. He took our drink orders, but missed someone and walked away. Then when trying to order apps before happy hour ended, he once again walked away without taking orders from everyone at our table, so several people missed out on the happy hour apps (plus, we didnt even get all the apps that we did order until I asked about it). We had planned to have dinner too, but the experience so far made us change our minds, so we asked for our checks. A few people in our group had coupons that needed manager approval and the server said he would get her. After a while, the server brought our checks, and when my husband asked if the manager was still coming to approve the coupon, the server responded in a flustered tone that he hasnt seen her, but we could feel free to find her ourselves. How are we supposed to find the manager when we have no idea who she is?!? I get that it was a busy day with the first Twins game, but we felt his response was rather rude. When the manager finally came over, she was very polite, but the server was clearly overwhelmed and took it out on us. This was a first experience there for some of our friends, and they have said that they dont care to go back. Im still giving 2 stars only because of my past experiences, and we did enjoy the beer and apps we did have today. We just wish that today had been a better experience. I really hope this was a one time thing, because Ive liked this place in the past, but we were very disappointed today.

I was really prepared to like this bar. My friend Vinu and I went to a happy hour there for a co-worker who was leaving our department. The waitress, Rebecca, seemed very personable and made a point of remembering everyones name. Everything was going fine until Rebecca informed us that she could no longer serve Vinu any drinks. She claimed her manager had decided Vinu should not have any more to drink. I need to point out here that neither Vinu or I was seriously intoxicated. Vinu is from India, and he was the only dark-skinned person at the table. The other people at the table had been doing vodka shots, but Vinu and I had only had beer. Vinu was the only person who was denied service. When I talked to Rebeccas manager, she asserted that she needed to support the judgement of the wait staff, implying that Rebecca was the one who decided my friend had too much to drink. She was evasive and would not tell me who had really decided that Vinu had too much to drink. Given that everyone else at the table had as much or more to drink than Vinu and I, I can only conclude that the waitress and/or the manager just didnt like the look of my dark-skinned friend and decided to cut him off. Out of at least a dozen people at the table, all of whom were white, he was the only one singled out for this treatment. My advice is avoid this bar if you are not white, or at least ask for a different waitress than Rebecca.

The Freehouse is AMAZING! I group of four of us girls had dinner & drinks here about a week ago for a birthday dinner. Our waitress, Alyssa was so great & patient with us. We took a while to make decisions but she gave us the time we needed & then also gave plenty of great recommendations based on what we told her we liked & the dietary restrictions some of us had. The beer they brew in-house is awesome, Id recommend getting the sampler so that you can try a variety. The hummus appetizer was delicious & took the perfect amount of time to come out then dinner came at the perfect time after we had finished our appetizer. All four of us loved the meals we had for dinner & the portions were perfect. We were headed to a show at Acme & mentioned to Alyssa that we were in a bit of a rush & she quickly provided them right away, with the appetizer split up on our tabs! All four of us absolutely loved our experience at The Freehouse. To top it off, the manager printed out directions for us to get to the comedy club. We couldnt stop raving about how we felt like we were treated like rockstars. That was WOW customer service at its finest- their teamwork was so neat to see, they seemed to really be enjoying what they do, which in my opinion, really creates the experience for the guests. Well definitely be back!

I really want to enjoy this place more, but I dont. Ive been underwhelmed each and every time Ive come in here. The atmosphere inside is great and its routinely busy. At first I thought it was just a bad visit since it is actually usually busy. Ive been back a few more times to be met with continued poor impressions. Servers are average but nothing "wow" about the experience. The morning/daytime bartender leaves a lot to be desired. Shes bitter, not friendly, and doesnt know the menu. This is a tip-based workforce, isnt it? I simply dont understand why you cant even get so much as a smile out of her. She seems rushed and rushes people in placing their order. The food is pretty solid but for me, service is key and unfortunately left a sour taste in my mouth thus impacting my likability of this place. Ill probably be back due to proximity (literally in my front patio) but I dont expect anything different. Oh, and try their beers. I do approve of the large selection and they are pretty good (though could be colder).

Tuna and White Bean salad was very tasty but not the grilled ciabatta, it was served under the salad. Not a fan of grilled bread since the bread takes on the flavors from what ever was previously grilled, plus a matalicly flavor. I felt a little unwelcome there as a member of the 50+ crowd arriving after 9:00PM on a Friday night. The hostess and waitstaff seemed a bit lost--our table was missing a chair when seated, waitress served us cheese curds--FINGER FOOD--without any silverware/napkins--had to ask hostess to get some for our table. Food and drinks arrived when ready instead of all at the same time, and never delivered by the same person. If I want to enjoy myself at Freehouse, I will need to give up the expectation of great service and welcoming atmosphere. I didnt try the beer, drank soda water instead. The bartender filled up the tiniest glass--making it clear to me that I should not be bother him with my petty order. #freehousempls #bluebarn #notmyfav

The Freehouse is not a place I would recommend. To put it nicely the service we received was slow. Once we mentioned something to the manager we there was more of an effort from the staff to take care of us. At the end of the dining experience it took almost 45 minutes to get our tabs when we did receive them they were wrong. We waited for them to be fixed. We paid the bill left feeling disappointed. None of this would have made me feel like leaving a review I get stuff happens. A week later we noticed we were overcharged on our account I called the restaurant twice and spoke with a manager who said it would be addressed nothing was resolved. The third time I called they offered to reimburse the overage they charged us. I didnt expect a lot to be done but something more than a sorry we will give you your money back. So to conclude this long review we did not feel like anyone from the time we were in until my last effort valued us as customers.
