Im glad the Uptown Diner is still in business as it offers a good option for those with late-night cravings. My experience with the food, however, was not good. My wife and I ordered pancake, egg, and meat combos -- a very basic item for any restaurant, certainly not anything they should struggle to prepare competently. However, one of my two traditional pancakes was soaked in grease all along one edge and had a stray blueberry on the other edge. I mentioned this to the server, who explained that since they dont have enough grills to make all the different pancake varieties on their own grill, sometimes one will overlap into another by accident. He did apologize, but he also made it sound like it was an acceptable error. Well, what if I had an allergy to blueberries? These are not trivial issues when it comes to mixture of food ingredients. My wife had the pineapple upside-down pancakes and said the pineapple tasted tinny as if it came from a can. (I also had a hot chocolate that had unmixed powder caked on the bottom of the mug. We got the impression pretty much everything served by the Uptown was prefab.) Later her stomach was still feeling unsettled and she vomited much of her meal up onto the streets of Minneapolis as we were trying to enjoy our evening out. My stomach felt a little queasy, as well, although at least I didnt throw up. To add insult to injury, the food is overpriced. Two eggs and toast was the cheapest item on the menu at $5.50, I believe. Our meals, consisting of two pancakes, two eggs, and four bacon strips, were $8-10 each. I understand the prices are higher due to the location right in the heart of Uptown, but I expect to get good food if Im going to pay a premium for it. Other problems existed, as well. Our booth was extremely drafty and we had to keep coats on the whole meal. It wasnt especially clean, either. There were copious amounts of ice on the sidewalk alongside the building, which my wife nearly fell on. No attempt seemed to have been made to do anything about the ice. Honestly, if our experience was an indicator of the status quo at the Uptown, Id be surprised if they dont end up getting sued and having to shut down on that basis. We wont be back after our experience. For $25, we got an unsafe walk from the parking lot, a drafty, dirty booth, and food that didnt taste good and even made us sick. And the portions were not generous, either. Just two hours later, we both had to stop at a fast-food restaurant because we were hungry again. OVERALL: Not recommended unless its 2 a.m. and youre desperate (and even then, if you have a vehicle, there are better options)

Food was good. Service at the table was adequate, but very pretentious. Initially I asked for a sample of two of the tap beers to decide whether to have the Black IPA on tap or a Stout being offered. My dinner guest order Surly Darkness which was on-tap at the time. I decided on the Black IPA and after ordering our drinks they arrived over 10 minutes later. When I took a sip of the beer, I realized it was the Stout ... the lighting is pretty dark (and very orange) in the diner at night. I asked the server what I had ordered and she said the Black IPA. I said, good, because this is not the black IPA. She disagreed with me... I explained I knew the difference and this was defintely not the black IPA (malty and chocolaty, not citrus and fruity; plus Id just had samples, so it was very clear which was which.) She begrudgingly took it back to the bartender (who takes a beer back to the bartender??) She returned about 10 minutes later saying the bartender says he poured you the Black IPA. I politely disagreed... She placed the glass of beer that I had originally ordered back on the table.. the beer was now warm. I still had the sample glasses with some beer left in them and asked her to smell the beer that shed given me as a sample and smell the beer shed returned to the table. She looked at me funny, I just looked at her and said it will be very obvious. She obliged and said, yes these are very different... so she went back to the bartender with the now warm glass of beer... Another 10 minutes later, after our appitizer had arrived, she returned with a Black IPA. She did not apologize for the mix up. So here we are 25 minutes after sitting down and Ive just received the drink order. She now took our food order ... which arrived promptly 15 minutes later. The staff definitely needs improved communication... I have no interest in ever returning to this place. Overall it was way too pretentious.

Maybe a good place to eat....I wouldnt know. If the waitress was a little more on top of things, maybe I could write a good, possibly a fantastic review. My husband and I went there on a Sunday morning and were seated, drink & food orders taken. There were 2 tables seated after us. Both ordered and served before us. The table that was seated 2nd, received the wrong order first but started eating it and were brought their original breakfast after. The first table had ordered, finished eating and were leaving. Throughout this entire time, the waitress had not once come to our table to see if we needing any refills on our drinks (coffee & soda). After the 2nd table were given their correct order, I waived to the waitress & asked when our food would be out. I said these two tables have received there food. She said you came in after them. I told her directly, that we had not. After sitting there for about 45, giving our drink and food order, without any acknowledgement from the waitress, we placed $3 on the table to cover the cost of the drinks and left the diner. Sorry, but because of one staff person, I can honestly say, they can make or break a business. Kudos to the people that gave good rankings, they must have had a different waitress!!!!!!!

Me and a co-worker decided to try this today and I must say I was VERY disappointed. We both ordered the eggs benedict and I specifically asked that my English muffins be toasted brown and not soggy. So we get our food within a couple minutes and what a mess. Both of our hash browns are barely cooked, my english muffin isnt toasted at all, my eggs are hard instead of being runny like they should be for being poached. Our server took our order, brought our food and cashed us out otherwise we never saw him. Never asked how our food was, never refilled our waters, never brought straws. I will also say, we were there for a late lunch on a Friday so it wasnt even busy to where you would understand. I wont be going back.

WORST PLACE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I DONT KNOW WHY PEOPLE SAY ITS GOOD! Egg ben. were medico at best, pancakes just flat out were a disappointment and it was NOT worth the $20 bill! Such disappointing food and disgusting service, when you have to ask for your bill after sitting there with empty places at a restaurant that is less than 20% full, is just sad, and the blond girl didnt help the customers AT ALL!!! and was rude to her co workers, I hope she gets training on actually doing her job. NEVER GO HERE IF YOU CAN HELP IT! TACO BELL IS MORE WORTH YOUR MONEY!
