Love... Love...LOVE this place! I arrived after work, 20 minutes to closing time, hungry and tired. The restaurant was empty so I turned to get back in my truck to leave. I made a brief eye contact with whomever was staffing the cash register. I was climbing back in the truck on a cold bitter night and I heard someone calling, "Come back, we are open. We will stay open if you are hungry -big smile-". So I went back in. Good move on my part! This place makes delicious curries served hot and cheerfully even when you are the only one in the restaurant and they are technically closed. :). Based on a recommendation from a friend I ordered their sampler thinking I might have some leftovers for Sunday afternoon football. The quantities of food and the variety was astonishing. Delicate green curry and vegetables perfectly seasoned to my medium heat order. Spices that are obviously very very fresh, varied and used unsparingly in each dish. I think their shrimp coconut curry would be tough to beat even in a setting in Katmandu or in Bangladesh somewhere near the sea. Just be forewarned, if you order the appetizer sampler and the entrée sampler, bring your friends and family or a big bag for the delicious leftovers. I rarely write reviews online, but I have to say either I was so hungry it all was wonderful or this restaurant is a stellar addition to the whole East Lake Street experience. I highly Recommend it!

A wonderful find! Food is very flavorful without being overspiced or greasy. There is a sort of honesty in the flavors that remind me of home food, but enhanced to a restaurant-level. As a mom, I feel comfortable letting my kids eat here, a compliment that I cannot share with too many restaurants. I have loved the momos, creamy Kathmandu curry and biriyani (I am not a fan of food with a lot of heat, so the mildly spiced aromatic version of biriyani here was a pleasant surprise; it happens to be very different from the usual spicy-greasy biriyani I encountered in a few Indian restaurants in the twin cities area; Himalayan biriyani is low in heat, yet high in flavor and was an instant hit with my kids). It is crowded on Fridays, so calling ahead is a good idea. Good, family-friendly environment, and given how quickly the place fills up, they should probably expand the place and spread out the tables over a bigger space and make it a bit less cluttered. Service is usually fast, and the servers have been very accommodating even during rush time.Owner is very nice and tries to make a connection with the customers. This is definitely one of our family favorites in the Twin Cities area.

Vastly overrated compared to Everest on Grand on the other side of the river. I went there on March 25, 2017 and used the bitesquad pickup application to make the order. After being looked at by five different staff members who never attempted to approach me to see what could be done about the money sitting in front of their restaurant, the guy who brings out the order tells me to call the place then next time we make an order... what? I will order food in whatever is the most convenient way to do so, because it all ends up in the same place. Their pettiness about a call in order is only surpassed by the mediocrity in which they cook and serve food. Ordered a cabbage dish and two orders of momos, both of which were largely underwhelming and overpriced to boot. Id steer clear of this place in the future, but if youre looking for some quality dishes of a similar type, Everest on Grand is the way to go every time.

Now theyve moved to Lake St., its bigger and a lot more bustling. I would come here a lot more often if I live a little closer. But then the distance just makes me crave more for their delicious fare. My favors are the MoMo (Nepalese dumpling), the ChauChau (Tibetan stir fried wheat noodles), Goat Curry and Okra stir fry. I love the lamb MoMo. Comes with this dipping sauce best described as a cross between chutney and salsa. Then ChauChau is loaded with cabbage and carrot, seasoned with perfect amount of Indian spices. Goat Curry is the Nepalese style, which a little heavier with fresh herb rather than intense spice. If you order medium in spiciness, you get medium, NOT Minnesotan mild! I am a sucker for Okra anything, left alone Okra stir fry with potato and onion. Make sure to try the rice pudding, it is silky and decadent without being heavy.

A large group of my friends (10 total) met for dinner at a noted restaurant down the street from Himalayan and were given the run-around for over an hour. When we decided to cut our losses and leave, the staff of Himalayan welcomed us with open arms and helped us arrange tables to sit, even though it was a fairly busy night (a family at another table also kindly moved to give us enough room - thanks!). The staffers were extremely kind, understanding, and helpful, and the food was wonderful as well! The Tikka Masala was delectable, and the Lal Mohan dessert went over very well with everyone. Of course, the garlic naan was a great part of the dinner as well. Knowing that large groups are difficult to deal with, I cannot express enough how fantastic our experience at Himalayan was, and well definitely be back to savor another delicious dinner soon!

Let me start with my good experience with the buffet. The buffet is fresh and good. The evening shift is a nightmare. The owner will only communicate with tables that has no issues with food. I ordered a chicken tikka, lamb kabab, eggplant potato entree, lamb tikka masala and 2 naan. The chicken tikka and lamb kabab was cold and very chewy. I can tell it wasnt even reheated properly. Our server never checked on how the food was and grumpy the whole time. The other server asked how the food was and i addressed about the tikka and the kabab. He immediately told the owner and no one returned to us addressing this concern. These people are here to take your money and wont give a damn if you have problems. To the other reviewers: please venture around twin cities and find other restaurants who will actually respect your money. Peace

I brought a couple co-workers out for some food, and found ourselves at this wonderful establishment. Only complaints I have are for those who want to sit down an order food. We asked for menus, and after a few minutes of waiting we had to ask another waiter to grab some. Then it took a while for them to come back to get our order as well. We were only given four sets of silverware out a group of five. After our delicious food had arrived, and promptly devoured we waited for what seems like a fortnight for someone to come back. A couple of us wanted boxes but were never offered, and never saw the server again. We left without our food, but other than those negative things it was a good experience. I think we will just come back for the buffet next time.

Lunch Buffet is fantastic We came here with a group of 8 and at first I was worried they may not be able to accomodate us but they had a side room for additional seating. It was perfect. I loved all their chicken entrees and their eggplant entree. Make sure to grab a bowl of dessert (mango + rice pudding) Paan Battaa - नेपाली पानबट्टा (After-meal Refresher) is a must try. They have a small bowl of fennel seeds mixed with a few licorice bites. I had to discard afte a few chews because it was too stronf but I was impressed at how long the refreshing feel/flavor lasted in my mouth. Sure beats gum any day. Ill definitely go back to try all the entrees and the after meal refresher. First time trying their food. Im in love.
