We have gone to Chapati for 2 years now. It is one of our favorite restaurants. We went tonight and it was the most horrible experience ever. The food was too spicy for my children who are the ones that ask to go. The recipes are different. We got there at 8:20 and saw our waiter when we ordered and when our food arrived. I had to send my son to the front counter to ask for more drinks because our waiter was eating at the register. GROSS isnt that against health codes. And without washing his hands he came and got my sons drink but failed to get my daughter and my waters refilled or our naan. We sat there for 20 minutes with no drinks while he talked to other employees and finished his food. He never checked on us. He turned out the front lights and asked if we wanted to go boxes because we had stopped eating once the drinks ran out. I asked where our refills were and where the naan was. He said that the kitchen closes at 8:45 because it all has to be cool for the kitchen staff to leave. We had watched them all walk out at 9:00 when the restaurant closes. He didnt bother with the drinks just got us boxes and gave us the check. Ive worked in the industry before. I know what it is like to want to leave but most places are still cleaning 30 - 45 minutes after the time on the door. We left at 9:10 and had been there longer than we wanted to be. At $ 16.00 a plate I expect the server to at the least check on us once after we get our food and not tell us we cant have something we just had earlier 25 minutes after we requested it. I dont think 1 refill in a 20 minute visit is too much to ask when the food was on the table for 10 minutes. I also dont think a person needs to sit for another 20 minutes while you close the store to get told You arent getting it when you had been sitting there waiting for it and expecting it. Just the worse service Ive ever experienced.

The food is pretty good here, but I had 2 infuriating experiences in a row. The customer service is terrible, and the owner was rude to me on 2 separate occasions. I do not recommend the restaurant. -- The first night, there was no one available to seat us because the entire restaurant staff (including the owner) were trying to catch up with orders. There were several people waiting for over 45 minutes with not even a hello. I was unimpressed with the owner as well, when I went to find her. She said you just have to wait. The second time we arrived 30 minutes before closing for the lunch buffet. We were chatting with some friends, when the owner said go to the buffet, or you will not get food today. I found this extremely rude and gave her this feedback, which she had no response to. I think this also speaks to bad management -- if she wanted to close, why not set the closing half an hour earlier expecting people to overstay a bit? I have never been to a restaurant that refused to feed me in this way.

I love this place! Chapatis is undoubtedly my familys favorite restaurant in all of Northfield. If we could setup a Sunday buffet meal plan wed probably be first in line! I love both the meat and vegetarian curries. Id be devastated if this restaurant ever closed up shop. My only strike against Chapatis is the buffet pricing for children. Its become a bit of a deterrent for us. I wish theyd borrow from Pizza Ranchs buffet pricing for children and charge $0.50 times the childs age (Pizza Ranch is a painfully mediocre restaurant located in Burnsville). Our kids certainly do not consume $6 or $7 worth of food; they typically eat one small plate of food (mostly rice and a little chicken) and then a little bowl of pudding or gulab jamun. For a family of four, the bill for the Sunday buffet typically runs a little over $40. Not horrible, but for our budget thats too much to make Chapati the weekly outing that we truly desire.

First off, the food is wonderful. I can honestly say its one of my favorite places for Indian food. Really well seasoned and tasty! A tad expensive, but it is a high quality Indian restaurant in rural Minnesota, so I understand. My big complaint is the service. The food takes a long time to come out, they seem to be chronically understaffed, and twice when Ive visited, there was no one even hostessing or taking down names for a waitlist. When you are seated, the waiters are usually quite friendly, but they have a hard time getting to everyone and paying adequate attention to each guest. The restaurants building is in an unusual layout which makes visibility pretty low, so I imagine its hard for them to see what people need. The food also takes quite a while to come out, but its delicious when it does. Overall, good food, questionable service. Id recommend ordering to-go.

This place has recently switched owners I was told. Didnt need to be told that, the quality of the food is horrendous compared to what it was. Was my favorite place to eat during lunch time as the buffet used to be great. I tried it twice now after the new owners took over. Food is overly salty at times, the bread is thick and dry, and simple dishes to prepare lack quality in overall taste. The food is not restocked after 130, the buffet goes until 2pm?? Very unhappy with it and wont go back again. I used to recommend this place to everyone including friends, Co workers, and visitors. I sure hope they dont remember me telling them about it now. This place is not going to last long with the BBQ joint going in. The food is awful, and I hate to do this to a business but its bad. For 12$ eat somewhere else!!!

Did someone run off with the old recipes?? Chapati has been one of our favorite restaurants in town for the past 11 years - my three young kids even enjoyed the curries. We just ate lunch here today and while the food was hot and fresh at the buffet, the quality and flavor has dropped significantly. Reading a few reviews Ive learned ownership has changed, but it was apparent after my first bite. My kids couldnt eat even the "mild" curries because of the spiciness. I normally go back for seconds but had no desire today. Customer service has also suffered - we werent asked once how our food was and waited way too long to get our check and ended up going to the front to pay when the sign says to pay at the table. Really sad to lose a favorite restaurant :(

I have been coming here for years and the food is still great. Even though the new owner ship happened there is still the same chief I heard with the original head chief coming back it taste more authentic Indian food. One thing that had changed is the front people and the service is good so I give it a 4 star only reason I dont give it 5star is because in the beginning the server that tried to help us didnt not speak loud enough or any English at all that I can understand. Find out he is also part owner to the restaurant. He need a lot of training to be working in the front. But later ther younger server did great service to change our thoughts about the service. I will be back again
