I have always felt South India food does not get the popularity or marketing it deserves, in the US. Was extremely happy to find this AUTHENTIC, TRADITIONAL , FRESH, SOUTH Indian food. Not the usual Punjabi, North Indian fare adjusted to appeal to the taste pallet of Americans. The place is not fancy and it is being run by one man. But, it makes it up with great food and service.!! I , being a Pondicherrian and my husband being a Bengali, are suckers for a good fish curry and their Arabian sea dinner satisfied us 100%. One morsel of rice with the fish curry, hit our senses with the aroma and flavor of fresh ground spices !! Went great with a piece of perfectly fried king fish. Finished of with their Payasam. Thanks is simply the best South Indian food I have had , outside India. This is exactly how we cook Indian food at home. Will visit this place again, whenever we are in Minneapolis.!!

Extremely long wait time. We waited for about 1 hour and 45 minutes for the food. At that point, we didnt care about how good the food was. And then he told us that he ran out of rice, so offered some dosa instead. I dont like Dosa but didnt have an option since I did not want to wait 1 more hour for the rice. Gave 2 stars because the food was good, to be honest. But, will not go there unless I have the whole day to spend on lunch/dinner. From the google reviews, it seems this has been going on for years. So, I dont think they care about improved service, to be frank and thats a bummer.

This place is a gem! Hands down the best Indian food in the Twin Cities. The owner is honest and incredibly passionate about his food and it really shows. All dishes are cooked from scratch so they take time, but man is it worth it. We had the Beef Masala and Coconut Curry and both were delicious! Dont listen to any reviews complaining about bad service. If you want fancy white people indian food then go somewhere else... (but dont!) This is real, authentic, south indian food and its fantastic. The dishes are unique and will bring joy to your heart and belly!

Tasty food. Didnt care for the service. We got a coupon from belly for free appetizer and dessert. After he delivered our appetizer he told us we had to pay over $20 to use the coupon. I looked at the coupon later and found out that was never specified. We were the only ones there and it took a long while for him to take our order, even longer waiting for the bill. I appreciate the owners cooking, but I do not appreciated getting cheated out of money.

Im from Kerala, and I really like the owners style of running a small business. Ask him about ayurvedic cooking if you get a chance. The chicken curry is spot on authentic and if anything could be a little bit more spicier to suit my palate but I understand it is rounded out for the midwesterners. He sometimes brought out special treats like Pazham Pori that wasnt on the menu but was being made at the time in the kitchen. Highly recommend a visit.

Yesterday we had a great time having authentic Malabari food. 5 Star for the Food 3 Star for the Ambience, but I dont care till the food is awesome. Prepare yourself for a little wait time before the food is served, but later it will be a bliss. You have to try their Kappa-meen curry, then the beef and they also have Filter coffee to end with... :) Not able to try their biriyani, will be going back again for some. LoL

Very bad service. Had to wait for a long time for us to order. No air conditioner, was very hot because the kitchen is right next to where the tables are placed. The humid weather outside was much better. Since the place is VERY SMALL, atleast place some tables outside. The crisps were not worth the amount mentioned in the menu and were bland as well. The yogurt that is provided for the Biryani had gone stale.

This place had very good authentic Indian food in the tradition of Kerala. The region was an important thoroughfare for the spice trade from 3000 bc to the 3rd century and the food culture reflects the use of spices in the cooking. Cinnamon, cassia, cardamom, ginger, pepper, and turmeric are all important spices in the cooking here. It is delicious you will find, but a little overpriced.

Loved the place. The owner was kind enough to accommodate my dietary need(no red or green chilli). All thought the service was slow it was understood as he was cooking everything from scratch, but totally worth the wait. The best chicken stew with appam I have had so far. Sid

Food is amazing. Very tasty and authentic. Lacks good ambiance and needs improvement in service and have to wait for long after you order. It might improve as time passes as they are new.... Recommend it for a To-Go. Also, the quantity of curries is less.

I brought my husband here as his family is from Kerala. He felt at home, and this is some of the best food Ive eaten in a long time. You will have to wait ~30 minutes for your meal as each dish is prepared by hand. But the wait is worth it.

Authentic kerala cuisine, great service! The owner is always polite and nice, takes care of spice levels and other dietary preferences. Do not expect fine-dining service, its more of a small owner restaurant kinda deal. Patience is a virtue!

The food, specialties of Kerala, is delicious! Beware though, they make everything from scratch.. so, the service is slow... but the food is so worth it. Order ahead of time and pick it up instead. They also deliver to nearby areas.

Delicious food and great people! I feel like I step back in India when I walk in there. I have lived in India for five years and this is by far the most authentic Indian food/environment in all of Minneapolis! Highly recommended!!!

Great food, TERRIBLE service. Ive been here three times, just to make sure it wasnt a fluke. The food is always great, but the service is ... AWFUL. There are plenty of other great Indian places to take my business.

I am from Kerala (Malabar) and was in MN for a conference. I ended up eating at this place every other day for two weeks and sampled all that they had to offer. It was preeeetty awesome. Authentic and friendly!

This is by far the best Indian food Ive ever had. I now realize I strongly prefer southern Indian food over the more common northern variety. Ive already recommended this place to several friends.

I eat Indian frequently and compare Malabari favorably with my other favorites, Gandhi Mahal, Persis and Bawarchi. Weve had 5 dishes there, and each has been absolutely delicious.

We needed some food to bring to our friends staying at the hospital nearby after the birth of their son. We brought a bunch of dishes from Malabari and it was a huge hit!
