I was really excited to try this joint. We placed the order for Bite Squad to pick up two burgers, fries, and wings on 12.23.15. First off, we were shorted fries that we paid almost $3.00 for, and im glad we were shorted, because they had more salt than the Pacific Ocean. They were basically inedible. I ordered the Ghost Pepper Burger medium rare. The burger came over well done, like a hockey puck. There was absolutely no flavor what so ever. Even the beef itself seemed to be a bit off, almost fishy. My colleague ordered the double bacon cheese burger, also medium rare, he received two well done patties, dry as a bone with no flavor. The wings were also sub-par in my opinion. We really wanted to find a quality burger joint near our work location, that we could order in from. Unfortunately, we will not be ordering from Cardinal Tavern again. *** UPDATE *** THANK YOU BITE SQUAD FOR CREDITING THE FRIES THAT WERE MISSING. I have passed this place for years and last week and I went with a friend there for friday night dinner. All I can say is City Pages, you claim the wrong places for the "Juicy Lucy"!! The Cardinal have the best burger I have ever had!!! Good fries, and the meat is really good quaility. The all you can eat fish fry on fridays look so good! The place is just a friendly place with the owners greeting you and walking around seeing that your dinner is fine. What more can I say, try it youll like it.

It was my first visit and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I had some time to kill in the neighborhood so I decided to give it a try. Bartender Steve is very friendly and makes you feel right at home. The beer is cheap during Twins games and the food is great. You get a huge burger for around $6 (fries extra). I was really impressed, all around. The patrons included everyone from age 21 to 81, and many of them seemed to know each other. I will definitely go back again during Twins games.

Great lunch specials. Beef sandwiches, covered in gravy, real mashed taters, and veggies. Freakin awesome! ♡♡♡ its like your grandma cooked it. The food is great. Dont know about the drinks, I dont drink alcohol. Looks like people are happy with their drinks though. They have great service here. Plus it has a garage door in the main room that they open when its nice outside.. pretty cool lil spot in South Minneapolis. I frequently go here, its worth it.

The Cardinal is one of my favorite places in the Twin Cities. It is a neighborhood bar with a slightly divey interior and a friendly welcoming attitude. The food is delicious and inexpensive. The staff (especially Steve!) are super friendly and make you feel like a regular after only a few trips back. Ive been going to trivia there every other week for a few months and love it. Definitely the place to hang out and drink with your friends.

Can you be a dive bar if you serve food? They serve food, and honestly the limited things Ive had I have nothing bad to say about. Its your classic bar food from a hot grill and a fryer; from scratch it aint. They have pull tabs, so you can sit at the bar and watch people slowly peal their hopes and dreams away, which is fun. Also, they have sports on non HD TVs, which is fantastic.

No liquor—wine & beer only. Fried macaroni bites were okay once you let them cool down. Fries were meh. The beer selection was not very good, mostly domestic adjunct lagers. I suppose if you like to drink cheap beer and sing your heart out, its fine. Overall Id say its a cliquey karaoke bar forced to accept new clientele because of the near by light rail platform.

The Cardinal Bar was a good bar years back... Ever since the light rail the Cardinal Bar sees many drug addicts, homeless people use the Cardinal Bars rest room as a shower room.. I have literally seen homeless people take bathes in the sink. The Cardinal Bar also has a lot of hookers and prostitution going on ever since the light rail.

Love this place. I stop in every time im in town. Food is cheap and tasty. Beer selection is pretty vast, and its got a great divey feel to it with nice locals and very friendly service. Being on the light rail route makes this place a must for passing time on a long layover or even just for afterwork drinking spot to watch the game.

The time tested dive bar in the neighborhood. There are about ten tap beers, no liquor, and all the accoutrement of a dive bar youd expect: weekly meat raffles, pull tabs, two pool tables, dart boards that are blocked by tables, Golden Tee, Taco Wednesday, a fryer based appetizer list.

Great place! Friendly and down to earth atmosphere. Fantastic bar burgers and food! Strong beer, not the 3.2 most South Mpls bars are forced to have. If you want a great little local joint with a cold beer and a great burger, this is your stop. The Mexican Burger is awesome!

This is a humble spot across the street from the light rail station. Ive been a couple times. There was nothing really wrong with the place, but also nothing too awesome. It only has been and wine. Prices were actually kind of high ($6 beers) considering its an extreme dive.

Love this place, not pretentious and the hipsters havent over run it yet. You can come as you are and have a great selection of beers on tap and great bar food. If you feel its more important to post your food on Instagram than actually eat it, this place isnt for you.

Great food ! Sat down for a few burgers and fries. Great place on a nice day to enjoy the fresh air. They have a roll up window letting in fresh air. This is a great place as the service is friendly. They have real filling burgers. Overall a great spot for lunch

The chicken tender sandwich is literally just an overdone chicken strip on a hamburger bug. No cheese, no lettuce, no condiment. A chicken strip on a cheap bun, like a poor college student made it. Tots were decent.
