Ive been to this place twice and will never go back. The owner/hostess Jeri is very rude. Here was my last dining experience, which was over a year ago, but I published the much longer story on my blog, Jellyfish Barbs". I ordered a pork chop dinner, but unlike the previous dining experience, the chop that was served was not at all like the plump chop I’d had previously. This one had a lot of bone throughout and it was thin. My mistake: I wasn’t impressed with it, but I didn’t say anything to our server about it and just gnawed around the bone, making the best of it. At the end of the meal, our server came over and asked if I wanted a box for the rest and I said “no thanks”, adding that it was mostly bone that was left. Our friend was interested in a box for it, for his dog, so the server went up to get a “to go” box from the owner/husband. While she was getting the box, she told the owner/husband about the amount of bone that was on the chop. Given that he is the cook and perhaps the meat buyer, she was probably doing her job to inform him about the bony chop. But, our server was overheard by the over-controlling shrew, Jeri, and in a flash, she was at our table telling me about an unwritten rule she has about informing the staff if there is a problem with the meal. I wondered briefly if she had a hearing problem, because she was much louder than any other nearby conversation. I was so stunned that I blurted out explaining to her that I wasn’t asking for anything. Was she annoyed and thinking that perhaps I was going to try to get a break on the bill, wheedle a free dessert?? My blurt didn’t get anywhere except adding fuel to her flames. She continued her rant and…wait for it…called me a "MISERABLE PERSON". I was dumb-founded. We got up after we all told her that was uncalled for and left, IMMEDIATELY. On the way out the door, my friend paid and talked to the owner/husband about her incredible insult and again, she bullied her way over the top of this conversation as well! Holy crappers! I wonder what this hateful person would have done if I sent the chop back to the kitchen? All I could envision was my head on a spike at the door of the diner, putting diners on notice that the “Soup Nazi” is real and running a low-class diner in Wilton Manors.

This diner is in the heart of Wilton Manors, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It is not a standout location. The owners and staff were very pleasant and eager to make it a pleasant dining experience. The dining room somehow imparts such a warm feeling that I can tell that is the main reason it remains in business after 21 years. Two people for lunch: BBQ burger, meatloaf and chocolate cream pie was our order. I tasted the chipped barbecue it was very good. I had meatloaf that was fortified with an ample amount of filler. The gravy was bland. This is the only establishment I have ever been in that I suspected the Winchestershire sauce was watered down. Also there is no Tabasco. Potato salad was flavorless and otherwise awful. The one high point of my meal were pickled beets. These were nicely colored, plump, spicy and tangy. They may have come from a bottle, but thats fine. They were especially to my liking. Would I return? Possibly, but only if I could have a large helping of their pickled beets. As I said earlier the waitresses, cashier and all staff with which we interacted were wonderful people who it seemed liked their jobs. That is enough reason to visit the place at least once again.

The Andrews Diner has the feel of one of the great diners you find in New York and the surrounding area. Theres such a familiarity between the clientele and the staff, that the place must be filled with regulars. As for the food, there seems to be little they cant do and they do it all very well. This is definitely a destination if you want to start with a hearty breakfast. Pancakes and egg dishes are always spot on and they get creative with offerings like the gyro omelette (yes, lamb and tzatziki wrapped in egg). For lunch or dinner, you can enjoy something as simple as a salad with seared ahi tuna, something as basic as burger, Greek specialties like the spanakopita or the Athens pasta salad or you can go elegant with a well trimmed, yet still juicy prime rib (the leanest cut Ive had that still hits the spot.) The owners are almost always present and I think that makes a big difference. The restaurant is always immaculate. The staff is always super friendly. This little mom and pop joint never seems to be lacking in personality. From time to time, a drag show might just break out, too.

I went to this "Diner" based on the reviews that I originally read here describing this establishment as a good place to get a nice meal at a reasonable price. Unfortunately, if this is the definition of good value and a pleasant environment, then these ratings need to be taken with a grain of salt. I found the food to be mediocre at best even though it took an unusually long time to be served. The staff to be appeared to be hurried, unprofessional and impolite. To make a bad situation even worse, the OWNER was the worst of all. Her attitude made it seem like she was doing us a favor by allowing us to dine in her restaurant. In these tight times, I do not take dining out lightly. If I am going to spend my hard earned money at a restaurant, I want to feel like my patronage is appreciated and the meal I receive should be worthwhile. Sadly, I cant say any of that regarding my experience at this establishment. A burger from a fast-food joint hurried through a drive through would have been a better idea. Lesson Learned!!!

No diversity skills , no customer service skills.whatsoever. I went to have dinner on 12/17/15 alone. The gentleman behind the cash register, older guy with a white raggity tshirt on, just stared at me and then asked me what did I need? I had to tell him, Im a customer. Being the only black male in that restaurant Im feeling very uncomfortable now. When being seated at the tables by the counter I noticed three empty boots and ask to be seated in a booth. The host told me, no, you cannot sit there those are for family guests that may arise. That was enough for me, I went to Moonlite diner on Andrew and Cyprus great food and diversity. What a surprisingly horrible experience.
