Bean & Leaf is probably my favorite coffee shop in Royal Oak. There are a few others that are probably closer to my home, most notably the green one with the nautical reference, but B&L is the best. Pros: - Priced great, $3.xx for a large latte - Coffee is good, better than Starbucks - There are local works on the walls all available for sale - The vibe is much more casual - Internet is easy to access and fun to get the new passwords each day - recyclable/bio-based materials (cups etc) Cons - The coffee probably isnt as good as Biggbys but thats okay. - Paying for parking is a bummer (so ride your bike!). Neither - I havent ever eaten there (I gave it a "2" because im sure its good) - My friend says they have the best tea selection in town (I dont drink tea)

Ive been visiting this café every Tuesday for the last seven or eight months as part of a Meetup group that meets in the evening for sketching. Every visit has been just as pleasant as the last, if not more. Everyone who helps there is fun to talk with, theres a large enough selection to make every season or long day enjoyable, and the space itself is open and accommodating, lending itself to be a great venue to meet or work. Theres something for everyone here, and if youre looking for your new "spot," or perhaps just passing through looking for a recommendation on a place to meet a friend for tea, you wont be disappointed.

This place is a prime example of why you shouldnt order food at a coffee shop. Made the mistake of ordering the chicken panini, tasted like cardboard with a hint of chicken. Will admit the place and art is nice, but the music will make you want to stab your ears with bamboo sticks. Asked the cashier, "whats the bean and leaf special?" He replies, "Yeah." Will note that the Bean and Leaf special isnt so special. Ask for your drinks without a lid, the lids will add a hint of rotten shoes. Cashier wears a distracting middle school belt. Overall, Id come back here if I was heavily intoxicated.

If youre in Royal Oak and trying to dodge the grease bags on cell phones, hipsters on iPods, and corporate-operated coffee joints, Bean & Leaf is the place. And I dont consider it the best coffee shop in Royal Oak because its just the alternative to the other places. Their coffee is the best, too. They have some yummy and nutritious snacks, a friendly staff, plenty of places to sit, free wireless, and a restroom so clean that you could probably drink your coffee off the floor. Great job, Bean & Leaf!

Good drinks, unique selection and a nice atmosphere. The service can be a bit slower, so make sure you have time to relax at a coffee shop for a while, but I would recommend this place to anyone looking for either something unique or just a standard brewed coffee or espresso beverage. The location is great and is perfectly walkable for many, but if you have to drive there is metered parking either behind the store on on the street, youll need coins - no card readers.

Good service and a nice atmosphere. This cafe was recommended to me by a friend as a good coffee shop homework spot, and it turned out to do the trick. They have a selection of hot and cold drinks ranging from coffee to tea to bubble tea, along with a nice selection of pastries, desserts, and even sandwiches. I recommend the avacado egg sandwich. They also have non-dairy options, which is a plus.

Great Price, Great Service, Great Quality!! This is a tough act to follow in Oakland County. I am from Birmingham and drive down to Royal Oak to get their organic, fair trade coffee and their treats are good as well. This is my FAVORITE coffee place in Oakland County- and I wish they would open one in Birmingham! Oh- and they put bubbles in my latte, per my request... was amazing!

Its honestly a little surprising this place gets way less traffic than Starbucks. Lots of tea variety, treats are priced well, large proportions with vegan and health conscious choices. Even a contemporary East Asian feel with the buyable decore. Even the wifi is great and rarely drops. Come in if you like just a modest drink in a modest cafe.

Staff is attentive to your needs, but doesnt hover. Theres a good amount of space. The food is good, but definitely not restaurant quality (a given). The atmosphere is relaxed. If youre planning on working, its a good idea to bring headphones, as customers are sometimes loud when conversing.

The coffee drinks here are always delicious and unique, and the breakfast sandwich I tried there recently was delicious and much bigger than I expected. The service is wonderful every time I visit and this place has a lovely, low-key coffee shop atmosphere. Stop in!

Bean and Leaf is my favorite coffee shop. The staff is very friendly, it is in an excellent location in downtown Royal Oak and they have free wi-fi (simply ask for the pass code for the day - usually amusing). I love having meet-ups here. I love their iced tea too.

RUDE! I called today and inquiring about the shop but when someone answered the phone and when I want to say the things that I need to know the "LADY" suddenly hang up. VERY DISAPPOINTING! This coffee shop has a RUDE STAFF OVER THE PHONE!

I have been to Bean & Leaf many times in the last two years. The coffee and service are always great. The facility is clean and welcoming for customers wishing to sit and work on their laptops for a while.

The tea was so hot even after 10 minutes it was still undrinkable. Maybe some people dont mind waiting around that long, but when I order tea I would like to be able to drink it without scalding my mouth.

I am a regular at this place. I would recommend the teas here. They are served in such a lovely way. I do not recommend the bubble tea however. I tried it twice and both times it was lacking.

Pleasant atmosphere, but they dont know how to make proper cappuccinos and lattes. The milk is always scalding instead if frothy, fixing this would be a welcome improvement.

A great independent coffee shop! When Sweetwaters closed, I dont think many people expected its replacement to maintain so much of what made that place great.
