Looking for a good meal? More importantly a good steak? Texas Roadhouse is one of the best choices for the Kalamazoo/Portage area. I used to work there over five years ago and while many of the faces have changed, the quality of food has not! I have had the opportunity to see things from the perspective of both an employee (Kitchen and wait staff, I did both in my time there) and as a customer. I have yet to be disappointed. They know how to cut and cook a steak, the salads are made fresh daily the dressings are house made and their own recipes. The beer is cold and the options for people looking for something other than steak are all delicious. The filets can nearly be cut with a fork, the ribs are slow cooked and smoked overnight, the kebabs are delicious (made with sirloin, my personal favorite), the chicken breasts and roasted chicken are delicious and their dinner salads are bigger than my face. The staff is friendly and attentive. They do have "secret shoppers" who come through on a regular basis to make sure they are telling the "Texas Roadhouse Story" to each guest so be patient as you are offered "Ice cold beer and LEGENDARY margaritas" and so forth as it is a requirement on a national level. Fantastic place to eat, grab a beer, bring your family, eat some peanuts and toss the shells on the floor. Its fairly priced and delicious food. What more can you ask for. One of the best locations I have been to, and I have dined at TRH all over the country in my travels thus far in life.

Great place to go if you want free peanuts and rolls. A blooming onion costs $5.99 Fried pickles costs $4.99 The sampler platter comes with boneless wings, rattlesnake bites, and tater skins for $9.99. (You can substitute any appetizer in the platter for fried pickles at no charge according to their menu). If you want to substitute any appetizer in the platter for a bloomin onion, you get told you cant. Then the manager says actually you can, but for a $4 up charge. How can you charge $4 for that substitute when its only $1 more if ordered separately on the menu? I can see maybe $2, but $4?! Told the waitress I would just be eating rolls and peanuts. 22oz bud and miller lights werent a bad price at $3. I also told the waitress about our groups discount, but she never applied it. Why wouldnt you just give the discount that we rate and get more of a tip in your pocket?

We usually love this place but this visit, not so much. I ordered steak which was great and mashed potatoes and gravy. The gravy was disgusting. Definitely something packaged...wouldnt even put it on dog food. I quietly asked for a substitute and decided on Rice thinking it would be quick as they serve it frequently. The server finally remembered to bring it when we had finished our meals. Other people had brought our meals out and we didnt even see our server after he took our order until we were 3/4 finished. While waiting for him to show up we stopped other employees who went by to ask for what we needed. I believe his name was Cullen. Did not feel like he cared about our service. Usually its better here!

My wife and I stop in every Wednesday on our way to a meeting, so no alcohol, but only water with the 8 oz. sirloin special. We get out of there for $20 for the 2 of us and we order the sweet potato w/born sugar and a really nice salad. Everything is very delicious and the steak is very high quality and cooked just right every time. They also give us 4 hot rolls and all the peanuts you can crack before they bring you the meal, which isnt long. Service is always great and very friendly. We love it. (We do leave a $5 tip which they surely deserve.)

What a difference a year makes! The wait staff is great, BUT....My sons ribs were burnt. I ordered an 8 oz sirloin. I usually order the 6 oz. I looked at it and was kinda shocked that it was so small. Theres NO way that was an 8 oz.steak. Weve ordered the onion appetizer and its HALF the size it used to be. Whats going on? Is it run by new management? This was our favorite place to go. We will be finding a different steakhouse to go to from now on. The portions are so much smaller. Its not worth the money anymore.

We love texas roadhouse in portage mi, our server Kyle did an amazing job and and when a mistake was made on a steak that we picked he was quick to apologize and fix the the problem. He was pleasant with our has and made them feel like princesses. He checked in regularly to make we had everything we needed. They always have good food and make there customer feel like family. Ive never left this location unhappy they have the best food around we visit this place regularly at least 2 or 3 times a month.

Service was extremely slow. The bar tender should be fired or sent back to training. I was there for 35 minutes and only managed to order one drink while she was off wondering around. Had to call it off after my drink was empty and she began to take another order that sat after me when I already told her I knew what I wanted. Not to mention there was a minor sitting at the bar. The managers solution when I asked for the check was to write it off without any question tells me its an ongoing problem.

If youve ever been to a Texas Road House then you already know what the food is going to taste like here. Keeping that in mind, the atmosphere is nice and they restaurant is kept in good shape. I actually rather enjoy sitting in the bar area because of the way they have it set up. Theyve got a good horseshoe shaped bar with plenty of TVs all around. Personally I enjoy the food at Texas Road House and this Texas Road House is definitely nicer than some of the other ones Ive been to.

Standard chain "Roadhouse" fare. Steaks are pretty good, but not outstanding, but it is what it is. If you come here expecting Michelin rated food, youre an idiot that deserves to be disappointed. Good food for what it is. Service is usually friendly and relatively quick as well. Atmosphere is a little loud for folks who have trouble hearing with background noise. Beer is cold, steaks are hot. What else do you need to know?
