Im pretty sure I have now been to all of the Chinese places in Monroe, MI. This was the last place I hadnt been to so I wanted to try it. I get general tso chicken and chicken fried rice at basically every Chinese place I go to. With a scale of 1-5 I would say I have had general Tso that was a 5 and the worst would be a 2. Aside from China Express the places I have been to in Monroe all get a 3, just very much your average fair general tso and chicken fried rice. However, China Express was a solid 2. I was concerned when I walked in and noticed that the food was sitting under heaters (almost like a buffet that they box up for you) that it would not be much too write home about and I was right. This was low fair buffet quality food. I could go up or down the road and get the same meal for the same price in the same time with far better quality from any of the other places in town. There were times I wasnt sure I wanted to finish eating the food. Perhaps the reviewers who like this food have different tastes or have gotten different dishes but I would not return based on this experience.

8/3/08 When I walked in, I almost walked back out; the decor looked like a mix of something out of a chinese novelty store, and an 80s garage sale- SUPER SEEDY!!! There is a display case with food sitting in it where you order, which looked like it had been sitting there for quite a while. We decided to stay and give it a chance, and they did cook the food for us fresh, but it was so bad that no one could eat more than 3 bites of their meal. The meat was terrible quality, the fried rice was terribly dry with hardly any meat in it. The dumplings were aweful- way too greasy, and not what you expect when ordering steamed or fried dumplings. The only thing that was halfway decent was the wonton soup. I will never go there again, and suggest the same for anyone else, especially if you have a weak stomach!!!!!

This place is delicious. You wouldnt make fun of your favorite dive bar because of the paneling and the neon lights, you shouldnt make fun of China Express. The owner is a great lady that made sure we taken care of. We walked into there the first time, and it was minutes before closing. She made sure we felt welcome and at home. Told us no rush. I sometimes dont get that level of service at places I tip in Monroe. The food was very good for the price. I was full and happy afterward. My wife had the Beef and Broccoli and I had some shrimp dish. The shrimp were cooked right in the proper range and the Beef and Broccoli left me knowing what I was going to order next. I suggest you give China Express a shot. Good Chinese food for a value.

I dont know what the others here are comparing this place to, but the food is horrid. The sweet and sour pork tastes like Indian food, and it is neither sweet nor sour. It tastes like it is made with curry and barbecue sauce, which my wife ate exactly three bites of and was disgusted. I would not go back here again. The decor should have been enough warning for me to run without ordering. If you have ever seen one of those cars that the guys covers with dolls, hot wheels cars, bumper stickers and other trash, well that is the guy who decorated this gaudy place. At least I think I figured out what happened to our missing cat. I think we had him for dinner at this place.

I w as driving back from toledo called and ordered. All was disgusting. I passed a great Chinese restaurant to get seved aweful food to write this i had to give one star but I would give none after speaking to the manager and being toldIT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR ALL YOUR FOOD TO BE BAD. ... I was then upset and wont go back !! Rude as they can possibly be. If they are a member of the bbb. They would be kicked out for the way they treat people!! It is ashame!!

Without a doubt, this is the best place for Chinese food in Monroe County. A quiet, unassuming building from the outside, China Express boasts a delicious selection of Chinese-American dishes served up in a fabulously kitschy interior. Ive been coming here for years, and it gets better every time - be sure to try the egg rolls. Whoever runs this place, youre doing it right. --Monroe native

This used to be one of the best places in Monroe County to get Chinese food but over the past few years the quality of the food has seemed to get worse. We used to get food from this place when they started out in Foodtown was very good back then but I cant say the same for now very unsatisfied long loyal customer I dont know if Ill be back

Best eggrolls anywhere!!! Sweet and sour chicken is amazing. Hubby enjoyed the black pepper chicken and fried rice. The decor is tacky and the case of food almost scared me off, but they did cook ours fresh. And their menu says the chef will gladly prepare dishes not listed, bonus. Cant wait to go back!

I ordered takeout. When I got back to my hotel I discovered chicken was unedible, after a couple unchewable bites I picked thru it looking for good peices and ended up throwing nearly all of it away. I had ordered the large size. The taste was off and even the rice wasnt very good.

I dont know if the people doing reviews went to the wrong place or what... but I have been visiting China Express for over a decade now. When I have family visit from out of town, they are always anxious to get back to CHINA EXPRESS... as the food at China Express is fabulous!

I love the golden boneless chicken. Chicken lomein is the best anywhere. Also try the firecraker shrimp, I dont think it is on the menu but offered occasionally as a special, but they will make it for you and are always fast.

Quick and efficient. Its not my favorite place in town, but its cheaper than my favorite place in town by a few bucks a plate. If Im in a hurry, or I want a less expensive lunch, I come here.

If you have food allergies be careful. Ive seen them use the same utensils to stir shell fish and other foods. Cross contamination is very dangerous. Food tasted alright, though.

I have been coming here for years. My whole family absolutely LOVES the food. I have never found peking ribs any where else, every time I come to Monroe I make a stop.
