The clam chowder is the only thing that is keeping this from being a one-star review. I was hosting a group in Boston for a weekend, and it was requested that we go here. I should have pushed back, as it doesnt seem right to go to a chain restaurant featuring Seafood when you are in Boston! I had to call 3 times to get a reservation for 8. The first time, I was on hold for more than 10 minutes and hung up out of frustration. The second time, the obnoxious gentleman who picked up the phone told me there was no seating for the Saturday I requested, and then told me that he could reserve something for me the following Saturday. I tried to politely say that I was only in town for one weekend. I then hung up, waited a couple of hours, and called and spoke to a manager. The manager told me not a problem, and set me up for a reservation for 8 people at 8 p.m. We arrived at 7:45, expecting to wait 15 minutes. However, we were not seated until 10 minutes after 9. We were disappointed because several groups of 4 that did not have a reservation were seated before us. What is the point of having a reservation when you cannot honor it. The food was not bad, but for being in Boston, I expected much better. There are so many other stellar local restaurants that I can safely say I will never be going back to this one.

The food was just awful and our server was even worse! I had ordered the New England Lobster Baked and a dozen of raw oysters. The oysters were fresh, but they sizes of them were pretty small. The New England Lobster Baked had mussels, clams, steamers and of course lobster and it was just nasty. The meal had sand throughout the whole dish like they didnt even bother cleaning them. Im an easy customer, I used to wait of people for years and years when I was younger and Ive never experienced a server as poorly trained as the one I had that night. When we ordered our drinks he took one of the drink orders and walked away before the second drink order was being asked for. He was just very unpleasant throughout the whole night. I dont know if he was just having a bad night, but seriously you just dont treat people like that. I would absolutely not recommend going to this place. And if you do, you cant say that you werent warned...

I had a 8:45 PM reservation on Sat.5/11/2013. Seated at back room for a table of 6. 1st thing you notice is how dirty the restaurant is, especially the carpetting. Seated at the table in the back room the lighting was very bright and extremely annoying. I asked for the lights to be dimmed to equal the rest of the restaurant and they were breifly dimmed. After about 10 minutes the lights again were raised to max intensity. I complained and finally our table was moved to the side of the back room overlooking the malls pedestrian walkway. Not Happy. Food arrived all cold. At approx.$ 40.00 a plate this became a joke. I cannot ever envision another trip to Legal Sea Foods.

I was surprised about how nice this place was. It is definitely hidden in Copley Plaza which I liked. Big and Spacious, we were seated immediately. The server was nice and accommodating. The menu had a bunch of choices. I ordered a fresh salad and a shrimp entrée. I really enjoyed the salad, it was very fresh for a chain with good quality ingredients. The shrimp was dry and nothing special. It is also a little pricey which I hate with chains. The major downside of this place is it feels exactly like a chain restaurant, nothing intimate or unique. Good for kids, they offer a great kids menu and wide selection of seafood in general.

Maybe I am sick of the hype surrounding this place ( I am NOT a tourist ), but I am not that fond of this restaurant. I find the atmosphere somewhat sterile and they have the AC on so high that I am uncomfortably cold. During our last visit, we sat at the bar to eat. Once the bartender/waitress brought us our food - we NEVER saw her again. We had to flag her down for our check and when I complained her excuse was she had to work at the service station. For the prices they charge, the service should be excellent. Hire another bartender to help out - as I am sure they are making more money than most of the places around.

I went there for lunch on May 24 following my sons graduation from law school. I ordered whole belly clams but what came out could best be described as clam strip remnants. I would have gladly settled for Mrs. Gorton. I suspect this chain had not received their fresh fish order for the day but it would have been nice to be told that so I could have ordered something different. As so often happens with places like this, you dont want to detract from the celebration by complaining so you keep your mouth shut.

Everyone said "Oh, your going to Boston? You have to try Legal Seafood." We did, and enjoyed everything. The atmosphere was cozy and the service and food was good. Our waitress Anastasia even used an iPod Touch to put in our orders. I thought was was cool and very effective. I even created my own drink and the bartender named it the Mexican Mafia. I ordered the lobster with crab and shrimp stuffing. It was good, but had way too much stuffing to really enjoy the taste of the lobster. Id dine there again.

I have worked in backbay over four years, and frequent this location at least 4 to 5 times a week at a minimum. The managment is always on the floor talking to clients, if not serving the tables, the bar staff is great, Aaron, Sarah, make sure there is always a drink infront of you, not to metion them asking how the food is. Take out staff is always ready to get you served. It is really a great location for us here at Copley and BackBay. You have a great Team Julio.

This location is in the mall overlooking brownstones. No frills location with excellent food and very generous quantities. I had the lobster roll with a cup of clam chowder the first time and fish and chips the second time. I would definitely come back for the clam chowder anytime and the spicy fish and chips comes with a sizable portion of fries and onion rings. The lobster roll comes stuffed with chunks of lobster. Its listed as market price but its worth the cost.

My favorite seafood place to visit in Boston--I make sure to swoop in to one of their locations (though this one is my favorite) whenever Im in town. The fact that its a chain doesnt diminish the quality; the crabcakes and clam chowder are aces, while the non-seafood offerings sound mouth-watering. The staff is friendly and willing to work with you if you need to get out of there in an hour or less. And not uber-expensive for the amount of food you get.

Good but not the best in seafood, especially when I ordered lobster which should have been "melt in your mouth" but it was a bit chewy. Paired wine was very good for seafood. We found other restaurants in the area which charged less and the food was better or equivalent. Given the many excellent restaurants in downtown Boston, Im unlikely to choose that one again. Try the Prudential Tower instead for a 5 star experience, or the Boston Marriot.
