I am a regular at Kaldis and I support the positive way that Kaldis embraces diversity and serves the neighborhood. However, as a regular who lives in the neighborhood, I do pay attention to the service and any changes that occur as those can positively or negatively impact people as well. I especially pay attention to service and I recently came across an extremely rude cashier who overcharged me and who insisted that the sliders I was getting were a few dollars more than what the menu stated. I pointed to the cost on the menu and showed him the actual cost and he insisted on charging me the "new" price. Moments before that he had exchanged the menu in my hand for the new menu which had black markings to cross out old items. If this was the new menu then honor the prices on it. The cashier insisted on charging me the " new price" and completely ignored what I was saying about the price in front of me on the menu. Essentially, he was overcharging me and ignoring the actual price all while being rude and ignoring anything I had to say. Kaldis, if you would like to increase your prices, go ahead but dont be so cheap as to not update your menus. After all, customers are paying for an honest experience as well as decent food. Shame on you and your staff for not honoring the prices on your menu and insulting the customer as well. In order to maintain the positive reputation you have built, you also need to uphold character and honesty.

Excellent espresso, rich and dark, plus a lovely atmosphere in which to enjoy it. I run a class for 11 years for home-educated students where they receive an itinerary to solve and and do as they traverse the environs of Wash, DC, independently, without chaperones. Within one week of their Metro Journey, they publish a blog where they use photojournalism to chart their adventures, discoveries and learning experiences. I would like to send my current 2 classes to you next week, one on Monday and one on Wednesday. Several of them may ask to interview baristas, a manager, if that seemed appropriate to them at the time, and then they would feature Kaldis in their blogs. I hope that they would be welcome. My students are famous for finding new places on their journeys and making them a regular part of their life experiences. In addition, they are consumers and will most likely sit and enjoy some coffee and tea as this will be their first spot to plan out their day.

The drinks are fantastic (the London Fog especially!) and the staff is always friendly and helpful. The strange modern furniture looks a little daunting (it is if you try to move it - heavy!) but comfortable. The music is kept at a reasonable level (good for reading) and the crowd is always varied and interesting. The big front windows might look onto a parking lot, but they do provide a lot of light and space, preventing the shop from sliding past cosy-feeling into cramped. My main criticism is that nobody ever seems to clean the seating area - I have invariably had to wipe down the table and seats before using them, crumbs are embedded in every seam of the tables and chairs, and dirty wadded napkins scattered about the floor. I wish theyd staff enough folks at the bar that someone could be in charge of sweeping up, its the one major flaw to this place that it always feels a bit dirty.

Locally owned, Kaldis sets itself apart as a classic coffee house in the Renaissance tradition -- a social and intellectual community center. Also, great coffee (Counter Culture). With a large footprint, a large round table, rectangular tables of various sizes, couches, and shockingly comfortable sofa-chairs (for a coffee shop) facing other shockingly comfortable sofa-chairs, Kaldis facilitates social interactions. The pastries are great, but the sandwich and "normal" food options are a bit slim, which is fine. Food isnt the point. For me, Kaldis is a place to hang out, study, talk with friends, "telecommute", drink great coffee, read a book, catch up on the news, play games, or just soak up the atmosphere. Also, the front windows open up on nice days.

Kaldiss is great. I dont drink much coffee so I cant comment on their coffee but I do enjoy their selection of teas. Mango black tea is my favorite. Its one of my go to study spots. Its usually pretty busy, but great atmosphere. Its especially nice when the weather is nice and they open the sliding glass to open up the space. Theyve recently renovated the place and have added a ton of comfortable seating. Finding an open seat shouldnt be an issue. Also you have to try their coffee cake or cheese cake, both are excellent! Edit: Theyve added some new breakfast and lunch items. The Big Fat Daddy was really good, and big enough you could probably split it between two people.

We have been living in Silver Spring for a couple years now, but just recently discovered this great neighborhood place! I love the coffee and the pastries and cake are to die for! They also started serving small snacks and hot foods, I personally havent had any, but they look tasty. It gets busy on the weekends, but never to a point where you dont find a seat... Its a very relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. Wifi is strong, music is chill, and people are always super friendly. Love it and will keep coming back here.

The food was tasty, I got the Big fat daddy sandwich which was amazing, tiramisu (Ok) and cheesecake (not my style), my friend the chicken and waffles. When I ordered coffee, they dont have decaf drip so we had to go expresso and Im not sure if the coffee preparer made me Americano or if that latte was just that bitter but I have to add milk and brown sugar which I never do. I would go again just be more specific next time when ordering coffee.

I loved this place! Lovely and relaxing atmosphere, I had one of the best Chai Lattes Ive had in quite some time - thick, frothy, creamy, and had a lot of spice! The deserts are also all made on the premise, and they are not too sweet and delicious. Service was super friendly, and you can do some work, catch up with friends, or just enjoy a cup of hot/cold beverages before you go on your merry way. Great neighborhood spot - check them out!

Besides having great coffee, like Counter Culture, the space itself is inviting. Theres plenty of comfy seating arranged in a way that fosters conversation. I appreciate that its a local coffee shop and prefer walking a bit farther down the road to get to it. My only reason for not giving five stars is that I feel like a few of the baristas are chronically snobby, seemingly annoyed to take my order.

Limited menu but just a great hangout place.. comfy seating with a variety of options and many people working away on piles of books and on their computers. Great atmosphere. The food options, although limited are super delicious and the coffee is to die for! They also serve alcohol so cmon in expecting to have a good time with some great company!

I LOVE Kaldis! The space, seating, bar, atmosphere and coffee are wonderful. One of the best aspects is that there is no annoying music playing in the shop. All you hear is the indistinct murmur of conversation and it isnt deafening like so many other coffee shops are now. The coffee and pastries are great. Im definitely coming back.
