I am writing two reviews because I have two very different opinions about two different aspects of my recent experience with Legal in Chestnut Hill. I hosted a company dinner there last night. This four star review is based primarily on the service we received there at the event. I arrived early, thankfully, to make sure everything was all set. The room was not set up as Id wanted. The waiters were extremely accommodating, took everything off the tables and moved them around, then set the tables up to accommodate our group more appropriately. The service from that point on was great. The food was great.. although, the Treasures of Reef appetizer at $120 was not nearly as plentiful as Id have expected and the presentation left a lot to be desired. Weve previously held these dinners at the Capital Grille and for $99 they do an overflowing tower of cold seafood (lobster tails, shrimp, oysters, etc).. much nicer presentation and much more generous amounts of food. So, that was a bit disappointing. But overall the food was great, the service was great. The low points were the room itself (looks rather tired and old), there is a big flat screen tv but it doesnt get cable (our event was held on the night of Bruins game 7 vs. the Canadiens, so we had a lot of disappointed guests!). The only complaint I have about the service was that we had a select/limited menu and they just brought everything out without asking anyone if they needed a vegetarian alternative, which, some of our group did. If I hadnt overheard and stepped in, the vegetarians would have missed out on a couple of courses. I feel that the waiters should make it known, before they start placing plates or bowls down in front of people, that there is another option if anyone needs it. Other than that - great night, due mostly to the great food, the great staff, and the very helpful and accommodating manager.

Im a generally a huge fan of Legals and have had many wonderful experiences here, apparently I was due for my not so great one. Favorite things about Legals: accommodating for food allergies (I am allergic to dairy and peanuts) and the tuna steak. Tonights experience: I was with a party of 7, only three types of dishes were ordered (fried fishermans platter, blue fish, and wood grilled assortment) I ordered the wood grilled assortment after hearing from the server as an answer to my brother next to me that it was salmon, tuna, and swordfish - my favorites. I ordered it with everything spice and no butter. Issues with the meal. It was coated in triple the amount of the everything spice than I would ever need, so much so that I couldnt distinguish fish underneath. The fish did not end up being what the server had said, when I asked they told me since I hadnt specified what fish I had wanted, which is what the other 2 at my table had done, the chef had decided to switch it up (I ended up with no tuna which is the reason I eat a Legals) and the fish was well done, I generally go with chefs choice to be honest but I was expecting a medium rare tuna. What I learned from my experience: confirm or specify your fish for the wood grilled assortment or you may end up with an unexpected fish or not the fish you want, ask how much sauce or spices is going to be put on your fish so you dont end up with a spice dominating your multi-fish experience, and specify how you want your fish cooked. Most important, remember to say all of the above even when your server forgets to ask you. My sides and my drink were fabulous. The rest of the table had lovely meals and a good experience was had over all.

Well had a great salad and appetizers here. Unfortunately I found the food label in my salad So it makes me wonder if they even washed the veggies at all. After returning the plate, its been quite sometime waiting for the Manager to arrive at my table. Its been about fifteen mins so far. The manager just had the waitress come back with a modified bill showing the salad was removed and with his apology. In any fine establishment the manager should present themselves immediately to show their concern. Manager on duty was Enjoy Raggiani who told us the reason he did not come in person to apologize is that he was on the phone with a guest...well we were seated guests and our meal enjoyment should have been his utmost concern.

This is a well known large chain restaurant. You should expect high prices, a large crowd and harried staff. The food was excellent as we expected. Overall, this was a fine experience. We stopped in this weekend. Called at 5pm for reservations at 6:30pm. Very glad we did, it was very busy and there were three other groups in the small waiting area ahead of us and a few stopping in for pick-up orders. The place is large but it didnt feel large or crowded once we sat down. The service was quick and attentive. Beyond the seafood, the Bang Bang Cauliflower appetizer was a standout and large enough to share.

Made reservations for Mothers Day for 11:30 am and they opened at 11am for Mothers Day at Chestnut Hill location. We were seated early around 11:20 am. The food was fresh and very good as was the excellent waiter. The one slightly disappointing thing was that they could serve no wine or alcoholic beverage before 12pm per their license. Disappointing only because nobody mentioned it on phone when I reserved. But waiter was very good and helped us delay main course until wine could be served.. So, beware of time on Sundays if they open before noon and you enjoy wine with your meal.

I had been to Legal Seafoods before but not for years. I didnt expect too much, it being a chain and all, but was pleasantly surprised. The lunch menu portions were actually too large for any of us to finish. I didnt feel like a sloth after eating one of the "healthy" options on the menu. It actually seemed healthy, with steamed shrimp, brown rice and vegetables. And while the place was very crowded with the lunch scene, our waiter was extremely attentive and didnt go too long without stopping by our table to check on us. Id go back for lunch anytime.

Two stars is generous. Let me list the experience: ~ Disinterested/unmotivated staff and management. Too busy socializing amongst themselves. ~ Tables left uncleaned for upwards of an hour. ~ My mother, visiting from out of state, stated was the worst meal she has had in New England....and believe me when I say she is not prone to nitpicking. In a nutshell. A one and a half star restaurant masquerading as a four star restaurant. Only came here because my mothers mobility is limited. Will never be back. I strongly suggest you avoid.

Legal Sea Foods is one of my favorite restaurants and this place does not disappoint. The decor is great and the food is top-notch. The fish is excellent but the other stuff is great too. I just had a house salad for the first time at a legal sea foods and it was excellent. The salad was flavorful without dressing, and even more splendid with it. They also give you these nice soft white dinner rolls which taste great. But if white bread isnt to your taste, I know you can ask for whole grain and I think Ive seen brown bread too.
