We were so excited to try Spoons, as there is a lack of quality food diversity in the Southern Maryland area. In order to get good, authentic Korean food, you have to drive all the way to Annandale. Sadly we were extremely disappointed at the experience. Upon entering the establishment they were playing country music rather loudly. It immediately detracted from the atmosphere. We were seated immediately, as there were no customers in the establishment at all. Normally when you are seated in a Korean restaurant they immediately bring banchan, which is small dishes of foods like kimchi, pickled radish, bean sprouts, spinach, etc., that is included with the meal for the table to share. They brought out nothing. They were available on the menu, but at a price of $3.75 per small dish. The menu, while highlighting a few Korean dishes, also had southern BBQ favs, like collard greens, mac and cheese and sweet potatoes, and other things that were more of an Asian/American fusion. I have nothing against that type of food, and I do realize this is both a Korean and American BBQ restaurant, but I would like to have seen more traditional Korean offerings, as there are tons of places in SoMD to get outstanding traditional Southern BBQ. Then there are the prices. They are ridiculously expensive. I wouldnt mind paying higher prices for the food IF it was worthy, but unfortunately it was not. The food itself was barely passable at best. I ordered the hot pot bibimbap with bulgogi (which they charge an extra $3 for), and they barely had any bulgogi beef in the dish. Certainly not $3 worth. The mandu appetizer were most likely bulk frozen, and the banchan we did order was obviously store bought elsewhere, and not very tasty. If you are in Southern Maryland, and are craving Korean food, either take the time to head to Annandale to Honey Pig, or better yet, Chi Mc for the absolute best Korean chicken you will ever have, or if you want to stay local, head over to Bon Chon in Waldorf. They are more of a fast food chain, but have really good Korean chicken and other tasty dishes as well. Spoons was a great idea with tremendous potential. Sadly, in my never to be humbled opinion, they just completely missed the mark.

So I dont want to give it any less just because I didnt care for the taste. I gave it 4 just becauase of the prices and kid menu and taste. I just tried the bulgogi over white rice. The taste was ok, maybe Im just not a fan of koren so no big deal. I did love the white rice though. That alone was $19 dollars, eek. Then I got my kids the only 2 things available. chicken tenders with mac and cheese and child sixe bulgogi. My kids love mac and cheese so not sure why they didnt want to touch spoons, I didnt get to taste it so I cant tell you but they did not eat it which is rare. The chicken tenders were not bad but bland. The child size bulgogi wasnt bad, it didnt come with the onions or carrots so my kid ate it. The bill for 3 kids meals and adult was about 48. I want to go back to try the ramen, I am not giving up pn Koren food just yet! the server was very nice. Oh on a side note, when we went to the bathroom the floors were so darns ticky that my flats kepts coming off, not sure what was up with that!

I had the opportunity to finally get a chance to eat at Spoons and I have to say I loved it!!! Of course its the first week and every one is getting in their routines, that is to be expected. The wait staff was great, restaurant was clean and they offered a nice variety of both Korean and American favorites. lt will definitely be a place I frequent when looking for a place to grab lunch or dinner!

First time. Food was very tasty, service was fantastic. Wish the grilling was done at the table. The food wasnt quite hot enough. More room temp. Prices a bit too high.
