I am so disappointed. My family and I just moved to York and was at the Home Depot when we spotted Viet Thai. I went home and read all of the reviews and thought we would give Viet Thai Cafe a try since Thai Food is my absolute fav. We will NEVER return! When we arrived, we were told there was a 10 minute wait, ok not a problem. After about 15 minutes, two other couples who came in after us and was immediately seated. My husband advise the staff and they apologized and sat us at the last table in the back near the kitchen. Ok, not the best first impression but I am still anticipating my dinner. To make a LONG story short. We ordered : Thai Ice Tea -I really should not have, but whats Thai with out the ice tea ? The condense milk they used was very thick at the bottom, Ive never experience any solid substance in my Thai ice tea in 15 years ! Tasted more like coffee and not thai ice tea :( Kani Salad for our appetizer- Worst Kani Salad. Lacking flavor. Something was missing. Not what we were use to. Sadly, the salads arrived at the same time as our dinner when we ordered them as an app....hmmmm. Hubby ordered sushi - He had to send it back! The rice was over cooked on both rolls, and the salmon was not smoked on the Philadelphia roll. Our waitress was nice and apologetic and offered to have it remade, hubby declined. I ordered the Pad La Na and added shrimp. They forgot the shrimp. But what was more disappointing is that it didnt have any flavor. Very bland. Once the shrimp was added, it taste like shrimp from a frozen dinner entree ....eek ! Our daughter ordered egg roll and chicken w/ broccoli with fried rice.(They gave her white rice, but fixed it) For the record, our daughter loved her egg roll, but didnt like her meal which is typical. I was really disappointed that we didnt love this place. From "Forgetting" we were waiting to be seated" to the drinks, and bad sushi, bland Kani salad, mushy sushi rolls, using reg raw salmon and not smoked to the flavorless Pad La Na. We wont be returning. Everything else could have been looked over if the food was good. Utterly disappointed :(

After reading the stellar reviews I decided to give this place a shot. I ordered takeout at this place and it was awful. I had the pad thai, egg roll, and lemongrass soup. Boy was I in for a boatload of disappointment. The only thing decent was the egg roll, which was probably something frozen. It certainly did not look like the picture they have on their website. The lemongrass soup was on the salty side but the noodles in it may as well have been soggy bread. It was way overcooked. The chicken pad thai, which is a pretty standard not-too-hard-to-make dish anywhere, was just downright disgusting. The noodles were all dry. When I say dry I mean dry. I had to accompany every 2 bites with a gulp of water to soften it enough to go down. There were probably 3 dime-size chunks of chicken in it. It had no flavor. I cant say anything regarding the service. I went there to pick up my order and leave and the staff seemed very friendly. The place was bustling, but Im not sure why. The food is below sub-par. I also asked another friend who had gone there for dinner once and she had very similar complaints. I didnt believe it, but I should have listened...

My family and I have spent hundreds of dollars at Viet Thai... But unfortunately, they will not receive another cent from me. Their service is so incredibly bad that multiple people in my family have had bad experiences with this restaurant. Today, I ordered for pick-up and was given a wait time of 30-45 minutes. I arrived at the 45 minute mark and had to wait another 30 minutes. They were busy, albeit. I saw bags being dropped off at the counter but I had to wait another 10 minutes until I went up to the front counter where the host then went back to the kitchen and the all the way back to the bags until he finally handed them to me. I am ashamed to have recommended that place to so many people. The amount of bad experiences that I have been hearing about outnumber the good ones. The food is phenomenal but the service is downright disgraceful. In the past I always disregarded bad marks on this restaurant but this was the final straw. Edit: And to top it off, the majority of my food is cold after the 5 minute drive to my house.

My favorite restaurant. Ive been eating here almost since they first opened and rarely go longer than a week without a visit. Some dishes that look familiar on the menu may be a little different than what youd get elsewhere. This isnt "textbook" Thai, but you can get that anywhere. Its not a radical departure in most cases, but its enough to make this place special. The vegetarian menu is very good but vegetarians should ask about ingredients if they stray from the vegetarian page . Theyre very accomodating to vegans, vegetarians, and people with allergies. If youre a pepperhead, youll be happy to know the kitchen usually has a supply of fresh Thai peppers that theyre not afraid to add to your dish if you ask. Seating can be a problem at peak hours due to the small size of the dining area, but its always worth the wait.

Ive been a family friend of the restaurant owner(s) since I was a little girl. Even from an unbiased perspective, the service, food, and atmosphere is truly remarkable. The wait staff is personable, helpful, and fast. Every time Ive been in to dine, the place is jam packed, yet we never had to wait long to be served. Theyre prompt and efficient. Their pad thai, egg rolls, soup, and banana desert is absolutely to die for. Ive eaten at plenty of Thai restaurants in the past and they cant even compare to Market St Cafes! Ive never heard one complaint from friends. The place is a hidden gem.

A treat of a find. Was packed when we got there but they assured us it would not be too long and it was not. Very well managed with great service and delicious food. I stopped in with my friend on the way to my Family reunion and came based on the positive reviews. They are right it is outstanding. I had the Crab Pad Thai Stir-fried Rice Noodles, Egg, Vegetables and Crab topped with Roasted nuts along with an egg roll. It was a good serving size and delicious. I recommend stopping into this family run gem of a place if you are in town.

Ive been here 4 times. Each time I ordered Red Curry (chicken) because the 1st time - it tasted great, and ranked with the best Ive had from 5 other Thai restaurants Ive visited. The serving size was the most Ive ever received - and the price was only $11. If the restaurant was closer, Id probably visit them once a week; I have to drive 30 miles one way to get there. As another reviewer noted, Ive had to wait somewhat longer than I expected for a "takeout" order that I placed - but Ive enjoyed the food so much, it was worth it.

My husband, Mother in Law, and I went here to eat tongiht and it was absolutely fabulous! I havent had Kim Chi since I was a little girl (5 years old) and when I tasted the Kim Chi at the Market Street Viet Thai Cafe, it was like a was five years old eating it all over again! It was so good. My husband had the Red Curry Noodles with Chicken and Basil and he loved it. It was both our first times eating there and we will be back! My mother in law is a regular customer and we will be joining her more often!
