I used to go to Haandi nearby, and loved their food. But I was shocked that theyd closed. But wait! Now Kadhai has taken over with the same exact menu just a couple blocks away. A minor miracle. I was there a week ago (May 8). I had that same exquisite dish -- Shrimp Masala - that I used to get at Haandi. They could sell that sauce alone in a bottle. Among the finest tastes Ive ever experienced.Their Raita is also wonderful (yoghurt and spices and cucumbers, thick and delicious), a perfect, soothing contrast to the spicy food. Their Raita is much better than Tandoori Nights, also in Bethesda. To those who say the food is average or worse leaves me scratching my head. I dont get it.

Another disappointing Bethesda restaurant. Maybe I am a DC snob, but I find highly rated restaurants in Bethesda sub par compared to any restaurant in the city of DC. I was hoping for the best Indian food (as the review says), but left disappointed. The restaurant is big and close to the Bethesda Metro Station. The staff is friendly and they have a large menu. I ordered the chicken tikka masala and it was plenty of food, but it wasnt super flavorful and the chicken was fatty and had grizzle. I ordered naan and for the price, wasnt that much. If you want the truly best Indian food in the DC Metro area, head over to Dishes of India in Huntington. The BEST!

My husband and I went last night because it smelled so amazing as we passed by. We were able to get a table outside and enjoy the weather. The service staff was so friendly and accommodating. Our order was taken right away and our food was very timely coming out. The tastes and the flavors of the lamb vindaloo, chicken tikka masala and garlic naan were amazing. Their sauces are also delicious. I was sad to see my bowl empty! Even though I was stuffed, I still wanted more. Before last night, my husband was not the biggest fan of Indian food. Now he cant wait to go back! Either can I!

Fantastic Indian restaurant in downtown Bethesda. Lovely white tablecloths, buffet lunch was well stocked with traditional dishes. Enjoyed a refreshing, fresh Mango Lassi while having a leisurely lunch with a friend. Never rushed. Accommodated both larger groups of office workers out to lunch, and friends out for a chat. Excellent food, half the buffet was Vegetarian and the other half was not, making it easy to choose. Everything was labeled with the names and ingredients for the uninitiated. Convenient public parking lot right around the corner.

Kadhais vast menu of sumptuous offerings never fails to disappoint!Weve been going there for years and no matter how long it is between in-person trips (delivery/pick-up is more frequent with out hectic schedule), the head waiter always remembers our favourites and informs our waiter before he even appears to ask for out drink order! Truly impressive customer service, combined with some of the best Indian cuisine this side of the Atlantic! Highly, highly recommend!

The food is just ok, but the service is terrible, waiters and manager are rude, hurrying customers and asking them to pass the dishes over when done, rather than picking themselves. Their starters are greasy, and the relishes are bland. Have tried it a few times and had different dishes to give them a chance, but finally decided I wont be going there again, nor will my colleagues!

We ordered the mango lassi and mattar paneer, among other items. They were both excellent. The mango lassi was rich and deeply flavored. The mattar paneer was soft and rich. I also recall the naan bread surprised me with how good it was: freshly baked, slightly burned but in a way that felt authentic. I always like naan, but this was a cut above the rest.

Great food! The consistency of their quality and taste is unbelievable. They recently changed names from Haandi to Kadhai. But same chef and same management. Some dispute over name .. and instead of spending cycles on fighting they just changed names and stuck to what they do best - making and serving the best north indian food in the area.

Probably the best Indian buffet In Bethesda. Ive been coming here for years, and to this day I am still impressed with the consistency and quality of the food. They change up the buffet daily as well, so you get some variation. The staff is very friendly and responsive, and aside from their buffet, the dinner entrees are almost always stellar.

The moderately-priced weekend (Sunday only?) buffet is probably your best bet. Fill up on a variety of Indian specialties and curries over rice or by themselves. The sometimes zesty and full flavors can be cooled nicely with a palate neutralizing rice pudding for dessert. Recommended for both flavor and portions.

Food here is really adapted more for the non-Indian clientele...not spicy (they dont even ask spice level), and many dishes like Curries, Biryani, etc. were bordering on sweet. Service was pretty good though. We asked them to get us freshly prepared Indian tea - which wasnt on the menu, and they gladly complied.

Great service, good food! I love this place for Indian. Since moving to Bethesda a few months ago, Ive been here four times. I havent tried anything I dont like. Their brunch buffet is pretty good. In full disclosure, Im not terribly familiar with Indian cuisine, but this restaurant has not disappointed.

We went for a late dinner, just an hour before closing time. We found the people rather rude. We understand they are in a hurry, but there is no excuse for snatching menus out of hands, careless serving and asking thrice if we finished while we were obviously eating. I am never going back again.

This is a decent place for Indian buffet. Food is better than other Indian restaurants in the area but quality is not consistent which makes me take away one star from the review. My observation is based on 10+ visits to this place. Service is good, and so is the interiors and the ambiance :)

Impressive! The presentation and "deliciousness" blew us away. A frequent fan of the two downtown and well known restaurant was our benchmark. What a surprise to find this gem in our own backyard! The servers and manager (Singh) provided excellent hospitality as well. We will be back soon...

Great Quality Food. I have eaten here several times and used their take out. Great fresh flavors, good portions, quick service and very importantly...the place is always clean. The Vindaloo needs more heat. We will definitely be back. One of the best Indian places we have tried in NW/ MGC

This places lunch buffet on weekdays is unbeatable. It is all-you-can-eat for a low price and with many options and all options are well-prepared and tasty. They go very, very mild on the spices so nobody will have a real problem. I always come here with my colleagues from work.

Friendly staff, great tasting food (even with carry out!) I had the Chicken Tikka Masala and it was A+ as far as Im concerned. Sauce was not too thick, not too thin, and the chicken was well cooked but still juicy. Terrific Naan bread and great rice. Will definitely order again!

Kadhai is probably my favorite restaurant in Bethesda and some of the best Indian food I have ever had. The food is consistently great and the staff is super friendly. I have been going to Kadhai since it was still called Handi and I dont think I have ever had a bad experience.
