The staff made us feel as though we were part of the family. The restaurant was extremely clean and had a fantastic ambiance. I started out with the Daal Soup and my wife ordered Paneer Pakora for an appetizer. Both were fantastic. For dinner my wife had the Lamb Shahi Korma. The lamb was tender and succulent but my wife was even more impressed by the Butter Lamb Gravy it came with. She said I could just give her a spoon and shell just eat it by itself. I had the Chicken Vindaloo. Ive had this dish several times before and at first thought it was very delicious....and then I got a bit of the fresh, shredded ginger root. That was a brilliant addition. The ginger took the spiciness in the curry to an entirely different level. While I was feasting on the vindaloo, the owner came out with some Dal Shorva (Lentil soup). He said that, while the Daal soup is good, in India they never eat it just as a soup so he wanted me to try it the way it really was meant to be tasted. Hats off to him, it was fantastic. As I said in the beginning, the staff was incredibly friendly. I truly felt like I was part of the family. Its the type of treatment we typically only ever find at Korean restaurants and I was highly impressed. This will definitely be our go to for Indian food in the future. I only regret that I didnt take any pictures!

This was originally a 2 star review. I had purchased about $40 worth of food through carryoutmenu and what arrived was very poor. However, the restaurant took the time to contact me through carryoutmenu. They were very apologetic and offered to replace my meal for free as well as thrown in a few extra things for the trouble. Alternatively they offered to just refund me my money. I wanted to see if their food was better, so I took them up on the offer today. Luckily the food is so much better this time around. Everything bad about my previous experience was corrected. I had the chicken tikka masala with an aloo paratha. The chicken had a good texture, tending a bit toward the hard side for some of the pieces. The gravy was thick and buttery like it should be. Its definitely on par or better than any restaurant in the area. I never had an aloo paratha before but the potato taste really mixed well with the gravy from the tikka. I also had the veg samosas, some of those sugary dessert balls and a garlic naan. All of which were good. Still, Im most impressed with their level of customer service. They made a mistake, but they corrected it. And I can appreciate that.

Ive tried every Indian restaurant in the Columbia area and though Royal Taj still reigns as my top pick, Chutney is now a very close second. The restaurant is not as eloquent nor is the food absolutely on par with Royal Taj, but the service is good, food is more than acceptable, and the restaurant is clean! I went with a group of 10 and the waiters and staff were EXTREMELY accomodating. They served up a lot of papad (free appetizer) and refilled chutney and water countless times. The service itself was also very friendly and welcoming, as they prepared a special birthday dessert and even threw in a couple free dish samples of Rajma and Daal! The food itself tasted fresh and the chicken/lamb succulent. The only downside I saw to the food were the naan, which didnt seem as fluffy or fresh as other comparable restaurants (Royal Taj). Overall I would recommend this place to anyone looking for reasonably priced, quick Indian cuisine. However, if you have time to spare and a bit of extra cash, Royal Taj is a great upgrade in terms of overall ambiance and experience.

Went there on a Saturday night. We had a big group of 11 people. The food was mediocre at best. I felt the food was unnecessarily spicy - I like spices, but one should know when to stop adding them. The service was mediocre. The waiters took away our side plates which you generally use to keep your Indian breads on, so you can take your curry etc on the main plate. I kept waiting for someone to come / look my way but nobody did, so I just took my naan on the main plate and ate it soggy, like the others in my group. I am from India, and Im comparing to other Indian places Ive been to in the States (mostly in Raleigh, North Carolina). That said, most other people in my group loved the place; the only two who werent impressed were the ones who had tried other Indian places as well. Ymmv, but Id say you should explore more - there HAVE to be better Indian places in the Baltimore area (Im not from Baltimore).

Man what can I say!! If you are in DC-Baltimore area and missing home, come visit this place. I have been to this place for couple of buffet lunches and simply enjoyed. There were enough items, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian and the most important thing, every single item tasted great. To satisfy South Indian palate, they have pongal, medhu vada, sambar, masala dosa and chutneys, cooked well.Chicken dum biryani was awesome, perfectly cooked and truly dum! Lastly, gulabjamun and rice Kheer for dessert, besides endless servings of masala chai and lassi. The best of all is the hospitality and service.. simply superb, the best I have seen in an Indian restaurant in the whole of US. The hosts were so warm and friendly, made sure I was fine every 5 minutes. A home away from home, definitely!!! Thank you Chutney Indian restaurant, just keep it going!!

Nothing ever gets five stars, let me start off by saying that. But with that said my S.O. and I usually come here for the lunch buffet on the weekends. The price is more than reasonable. Around $25-$27 not including a tip of which, these gracious hosts certainly deserve. The buffet while a bit cramped for space (what buffet isnt?) is full of great eats, good currys, succulent chicken dishes, great chutneys as implied by the restaurant name and, sides thatll leave you wanting more as you reach for another notch in your belt. Freshly made naan, and one other thing of which the name escapes me but the size certainly does not. If you havent stopped by for dinner or for a casual brunch youre missing out on a nice atmosphere, friendly welcoming hosts and great meal. Expect to leave feeling fairly charged, extremely full, and with a huge smile on your face.

Cozy little restaurant located in a strip center in Columbia. We went for the weekend lunch buffet and arrived right after opening time. The selection was decent, including curry goat, chicken makhani, some appetizers, and pani puris. The items had excellent flavorings, but a were a little on the mild on the "hot chili" factor for me. I prefer my Indian food a little "hotter." However the spiciness will suit most palates, particularly ones not used to spicy food. The dessert selection included fairly decent kheer, and small, but tasty gulaab-jamuns. Service was attentive and impeccable, with prompt attention to supplying fresh naans, refilling empty water glasses, and even bringing complimentary mango lassi and a ras-malaai to the table. The restaurant area and bathrooms were clean and stocked. Overall highly recommended.

The food and service at Chutney are unmatched! I went with the waiters recommendations on everything and was glad I did. The lemon soda is a refreshing frozen drink that is made to order. The Chicken Tikka Masala was very tasty and tender and the Rasmalai was the perfect ending. The waiter could see that I was interested in trying new dishes so he brought out a generous sample of the daal soup, vegetable samosa AND gulab jamun for me to try.... without asking. What you have here is an attentive staff who love what they do and it shines through in their food. Highly recommended restaurant.
