My sister and I and our husbands just ate here tonight. We didnt know anything about the restaurant, and didnt know what to expect. Everything was delicious. The papadum was the best any of us had eaten. The naan was very good as well. And the sauces that came with the papadum seemed to be freshly made, not some gooey sauce out of a package. The owner had just started including dishes that he ate at home. Tonight, for instance, he served a salmon and rice dish that was top notch. The salmon was perfectly tender and not overcooked. It was not spicy. I mention this not because we are afraid of spicy, but to point out that it was authentic in that this was how the owner serves it at his own home. We also had a goat biryani that was wonderfully spiced, in fact, very spicy, but not excessively so. Unlike so many biryani that you get, it was not oily nor was it too sweet. I had the fried okra (bindhi) dish, which was nicely seasoned, but perhaps had a tad bit too much tomato sauce for my liking. Someone else may think it had exactly the right amount of tomatoes, though. Finally, the last person in our party had an excellent chicken tikka masala. The only drawback might have been that they had run out of beer. They had a good selection (Taj and Kingfisher), but had only one left. So we split it. The owner was a truly pleasant host. He talked to us for a good 20 minutes (it was the end of the night and all the other customers had by that time left), as we asked him questions about the part of India he came from. He shared a lot of perspectives with us and we learned quite a bit and culture, literary figures, and, of course, food.

A thoroughly miserable dinner at this establishment has compelled me to leave my first ever 1-star review. When we entered the restaurant, we were its only customers at the time, yet somehow, we received our starters after what can only be described as an absolute eternity (by which time other customers entered, placed their orders, finished their meals and left). We ordered a plain naan, but were given a garlic naan "for no extra charge". One member of my party, being an observing Jain, could not eat garlic. We made this point very clear to the staff-of-one, but were told "Sorry, we cannot make a plain naan anytime soon". The garlic naan itself was stale, and it didnt take a genius to figure out that the garlic naan offered to us was a leftover that was re-heated. The "Paneer Makhani" was in the chefs speciality (or whatever it was called) section of the menu, but it appeared that the chef specialized in heating or microwaving ready-to-eat instant or left-over Paneer Makhani. But what bothered me the most was that the staff frequently refilled our water cups, as though that would somehow make up for the terrible food. The only saving grace was that the portions were tiny, so we didnt have to suffer eating too much of it. Never again.

This is my usual place to go to for Indian food take out. The food is pretty flavorful and authentic. My last experience is what causes me to give it a 4-star vs 5-star rating. My husband and I ordered our usual and when we got home, we noticed that one of our entrees was cooked differently and almonds were added to the dish. My husband has a dangerous allergy to nuts so I called to get an explanation of why this dish had been made differently because according to the current menu there is NO mention of nuts in the entrees description. He was instantly apologetic and explained that sometimes his cook creates variation of the same dish. I explained to him how it couldve costed my husband a trip to the hospital and that adding nuts could be dangerous for others with the same allergy. From now on I will have to ask in order to make sure no nuts are added to conventional dishes. Hopefully this wont happen to anyone else. Otherwise, the restaurant is clean, staff is friendly, and food is good.

This place was great! The service was superb. My wife is pregnant, and the server seated us quickly and made several polite, non-intrusive questions about when she was due, how it was going, etc. The food was excellent. My wife got the chicken biryani, which she enjoyed greatly. I got lamb in garlic and ginger sauce, and it was unbelievable. We also got an order of samosas and special naan bread, both of which were also very good. And everything came with complimentary cracker-like breads and delicious dipping sauces. The prices were a bit high for mid-priced food, I guess, but both of our entrees provided us enough leftovers for two more meals each. So that was $15 for 3 meals, which is pretty darn good in my opinion. The server was so sweet, he even offered to give us a 10% discount the next time we came just because we are "nice people." Oh, and I drink water like a fish, and he filled my glass every time it got below half way. It was pretty impressive! :)

This restaurant is not an Indian restaurant, but a Banladeshi restaurant. The owner is from Bangladesh and lies about where he is from to all the customers. He hates Indian customers, because he thinks Indian customers are cheap and only orders one item. Me being an Indian customer, I have received the worst service from the owner himself. Some of the Indian (not Bangladeshi) employees at the restaurant, have told me that, the owner doesnt like to serve Indian customers. I have investigated this fact. In addition, I have also found out, that the owner treats the employees like slaves, since most hired workers are illegal immigrants. So if you are an Indian customer, please save you time and money; its not worth it. You will be treated like dogs. The food is horrible, and I dont see why you would wanna go there.

We found a lot to like about Bombay Indian. We enjoyed their particular interpretations of some classic vegetarian dishes (Samosas, Malai Kofta, Chana Masala, Saag Paneer, Garlic Naan) and found the seasoning to be measured and imaginative. The Saag has a smoky note I have not run across before. Each dish was distinctive, with depth and layers of flavor. We usually skip Indian deserts, but ordered regular Kulfi and Mango Kulfi at the mangers suggestion. Both were excellent. The Mango was clean and refreshing, much like a sorbet. I took a chance on the Masala Tea and was rewarded with aroma and flavor that is lacking in so many restaurants versions. We will certainly be back.

The single handed reason why I go to this restaurant is because of location; there are no others closer in the Greenbelt, MD area. I ordered goat biryani over the phone and it was not decent at all. The order taker did not have command of the language. When asked how many does there minimum order service they said 1-2 people. I responded with 1 tray. When I arrived, they had two trays ready. I was not happy, I wish there were more Indian restaurants in this area. BTW, I rated at a poor level and it saved as 5 stars...far from...

At 2:20, no sign saying "CLOSED" and we were given menus and glasses of water -- only to be completely ignored by staff. A polite "We are closed now" by anyone with a vantage point to the front door would have been kindly received. An associate or owner or staff or somebody walked past us -- about the time I might have expected to place my long-overdue lunch order -- and simply *glared* at me as if I had steeped on his toe. Patronize this place if "creepy" describes your preferred dining ambiance.
