I am visiting in the DC area and stopped by JYOTI for dinner. From the front, it looked like any other block resturant; but what we experienced had to be told. I have tried to communicate my experience in the following format below. Hope it helps in you selection on finding a nice resturant to dine at: Pyhsical loc- Perfect for city proximity (my bias here / 5 star based on my HOTEL location in the city) Inside- Cleaned and well arranged, table are on the small side but adequate for meals. 4 stars Space- uhmmm, a bit tight, but it gives closeness to the meal experience (familish) 4 star Service- Was great!!!!! We went in around 4pm, it was not busy, so we were given all the attention we wanted. 5 star on service. Attention was good!!! Food- was grrrrreaat!!!!!!! Everything we ordered was fresh and very nice(fish cutlets, chicken vindaloo, shrimp vindaloo, kauai chicken, shrimp masala). The naan was a bit crispy, but I asked for another and explained why, they provided the perfect naan without issues... I especially love how the food was kept warm during the duration of the meal. Another 5 star here. To be fair, it should be a 5 plus star here. Clearly, we enjoyed our dinning experience at JYOTI! I will most definitely visit JYOTI whenever I am in DC.

Our meals were tasty and our service was great. We ordered a variety of dishes: 1) Lamb Vindaloo; 2) Chicken Biryani; 3) Chicken Tikka Makhanwala; and 4) Chicken Masala. We also ordered two sides of garlic naan, roti, and Gulab Jamun for dessert. The Chicken Biryani was the best dish. The chicken was super tender and the rice was very flavorful. The Chicken Masala was also great, but it was creamier than expected. Not a bad thing, just not what we expected. In fact, we thought the Chicken Tikka Makhanwala would be the creamier dish. All of the meats in our dishes pretty much fell apart our mouths because they were all so tender. The Lamb was tender, but not at all spicy. The vindaloo is marked as spicy and I additionally requested the spice level to be the hottest that they have. Not spicy at all. All great dishes over all, tons of flavor and great portion sizes. The galub jamun fell a little short of expectations, but definitely a solid 3 star. The server was even kind enough to make an additional two plates on the house for us. Very kind! Like I said, the service was great. I would definitely return.

Aweful experience with the staff member. I went to this restaurent for lunch along with my mother on Saturday Aug 5th. We took 2 thaalis, the food was ok, not great and the curries like chole and Panner seemed clearly like frozen readymade food which would not have been cooked there. Since I didnt like the food I didnt wanted to tip. Seeing that I didnt tip, the person with the White shirt (not the actual server, dont know his name) came for argument with me that why didnt I tip him and he doesnt have decency how to behave with the customers. He was very rude, I dont know why would the management hire morons like him or dont train their staff. Since my mom was there i didnt want to argue further and tip him 2 bucks and left the place. If the management would not take care of such things they would go down.

This place definitely hit my eating out rotation due to the tasty Indian food here. They start you with 2 dipping sauces (one green, one red). The green one is spicy while the red has a nice contrast of sweet. Ive ordered the chicken tikka masala, lamb biryani, saag paneer and garlic naan. Everything is delicious and really hits the spot if you have a need for indian food. The chicken tikka and biryani are bursting with a combination of different spices and flavors while the saag paneer has more of a subtle, soft taste. I really need to order the saag paneer without the other items as I always tend to like strong flavors more and not enjoy the saag paneer as much. As for the naan, the garlic adds a nice flavor and really enjoy eating with with the chicken tikka masala.

-------------WORST EXPERIENCE EVER---------------- Worst ever Indian food experience, rude manager, unethical behavior. we have ordered for Veg Biryani and they gave us the Veg Curry mixed rice with curd. when we asked the server responded that it is veg Biryani indeed and they said they serve the same to others as well. He was so rude and reckless, responded indecently. At the end once we paid the bill ,He came to us and ask why didnt you guys tip. we said we didnt quite like the food and the service infact one of our friend left whole plate who is in deep hunger. Then he said "GET LOST from my restaurant by banging the glasses rashly infront of other customers. Not sure how this restaurant got 4 stars . Highly Not recommended

I love this place! I have been several times but my best experience was a few weeks ago. My husband and I had been running around all morning going to doctors appointments for our baby daughter. We stopped to get carry out because we were exhausted. I ordered two vegetarian dishes and some naan. While I was waiting, the server brought me some complimentary tea. It was so kind of him and was really wonderful on such a cold day and rainy day. It was just what I needed. Then, as a bonus surprise they gave us two complimentary samosas! It was such a wonderful experience after a rough start to our day. We have been to several Indian restaurants in the DC area but this is definitely our favorite.

Ordered delivery today of Veg Samosa, Chicken Tikka Makhanwala, 3 Puri, and Gulab Jamun. Samosa was average, with covering a little too hard to bite on. Chicken Tikka was tasty, enough meat and gravy. I wish I had asked them about how big their Puri is because man I regretted ordering 3. I could only eat one and a half, partly due to because it was heavy too. I wouldnt recommend Gulab Jamun at all, nothing to write home about. Delivery took more than one hour. I recommend carryout or just going there. I plan to do that next time. Overall, an average place.

We had the most horrible experience ever at a restaurant today with Dhivya Chandrasekaran Seetha Sundaresan Sriram Padmanabhan and 4 young children - to the shock of all other guests and the restaurant the manager asked us to leave the restaurant just for politely asking to be reseated away from the restrooms , many guests tried to intervene and the manager was rude to them as well and one other guest walked out with us , please pass this to your friends - never visit this place as long as they continue to employ this manager

My partner and I love EVERYTHING about this restaurant. I originally picked it randomly out of a list of Indian places in DC, and we were blown away by the quality and flavor of the food, the friendly, warm waitstaff, and the ambiance in this little restaurant. I have sampled most of the menu after several trips, and I have never been disappointed. I would highly reccommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys indian cuisine.

Very much enjoyed my dinner here with a couple friends. The atmosphere is great, the prices reasonable, and the food delicious. I cant remember exactly what I ordered, but my main course was one of their lamb dishes and it was very tender. I asked for the sauce to be mild, and it was just right. I had trouble understanding the waiters at times, but they were very patient, kind, and helpful. I definitely plan to go again.
