Just like sushi, this restaurant is also an acquired taste. I happen to love it. But I must say, you have to be thick-skinned and prepared for rejection here. Luckily, it is well worth the effort it takes just to get your first reservation. Once you are "in" however, and you make a good impression on Mrs. Seki, you shouldnt have a problem in the future. Some tips on making that first reservation: Be polite and to the point. Be VERY polite. I usually address her when she answers, by saying, "Hi Mrs. Seki. Do you have an opening for _ on _ night?" I should note that Ive only eaten here on weeknights, and they are a little easier on you then. She will usually ask if you have eaten there before. Even if you havent, I would say you have. At the restaurant, be extra nice. Make sure they know you have a reservation when you arrive. Greet her as well as the sushi chef (her husband). It sounds funny to have to go to so much trouble, but I think we as Americans could learn a little about how we treat those who are serving us. They are fair. And if you treat them with respect, they will do the same. As for the food- it is hands down, the best sushi Ive had- in any major city. Well worth the trouble. And the added bonus? Youll feel like youve accomplished something just for getting to eat there.

Im seeing old reviews about bad service. Mr and Mrs Seki have both passed away and there are now new owners. The new owners have remodeled and the service now is much better. I also think the sushi is better and I really liked it before. Its much more interesting than before. They have items that you would find at a Nobu. But still very inexpensive. Now they also serve wine which they didnt with the previous owners. Its my favorite place to eat in Lexington. Ive tried all the other sushi places in Lex and this one is the best.

OShimi sushi is the best sushi Ive been able to find in Lexington (and Louisville). The sushi is delicious and looks fantastic and the staff is very friendly. Prices are very fair. I used to eat here at least once a week when I lived in Lexington and I still try to eat there whenever I come back to Lexington. Sometimes it takes a 10 - 15 mins to get your order but it is well worth the wait! They serve other things beside sushi but I have never tried those items.

Terrible customer service. I came in to have a 4 and 1/2 star reviewed experience and when it came time to order the waiter was rude and unprofessional. He even asked if my teachers hated me because I struggled to pronounce the name of a dish, and walked away before I finished my order. Rule #1, DO NOT INSULT THE CUSTOMER! Needless to say. We paid for the food that was ordered and left before we had a chance to eat. Im sure the food was delicious, but I wouldnt know.

Good sushi and fair prices. Outside signs could be made better. We missed the stop because of poor signs. Very small place but the food is pretty good. We had the Bento box, Spicy tuna and a tempura roll, those were all delicious. We also ordered an Alaskan tempura roll which was not that great. All of this costed us $30 plus a tip. Overall, the place the food and the prices did not disappoint. Would recommend sushi lovers to try this place out

Oddly flavored, but good. Certainly better than several of the other Lexington sushi places Ive tried. The cuts of fish are a bit small and they put wasabi on the nigiri, so be forewarned if youre sensitive to spicy food. The wait staff is adequate and the atmosphere is very low key. Im not sure why they expect you to make reservations; Ive been a couple of times on weekend evenings and the restaurant was never even half full.

Ordered food from them and was delivered by LexEat In, food got here quickly but upon opening the box I found the "salad" was nothing but lettuce, with no dressing of any sort. The sushi was warm and was not the right color, the salmon was a light pink and the tuna was an off white color, not the color or temp you want for your sushi. The chicken that came with it was flavorless along with the sauce that was poured over it.

I love OShimi! Theyre sushi is fresh, their chef makes good recommendations and has even let me try different types of sushi on several occasions. Its very small, but I like that; its intimate and cozy. Must must also try their fried tofu appetizer it is unreal! (My mouth waters just thinking about it!) Its also the most affordable sushi spot Ive ever been to...a rarity. This place is a hidden gem.

Called in an order and was told it would be ready in 30 minutes. Went to go pick it up at the designated time only to find they hadnt started on our order. They said they were slammed but there were two couples sitting at tables. After an hour and fifteen minutes of waiting for our order, we went home to eat and the salad was just lettuce and the sushi wasnt that flavorful. We wont be going back.

Delivered food via LexEatIn. Sushi and Sashimi were both WARM (not room temperature, actually warm). Their "salad" was literally just wilted lettuce. Spoke to the manager to attempt to get this resolved by getting a refund, the conversation ended in him screaming at me over the phone. Unfortunately had to report them to the health department due to the warmed raw fish.

Best Philadelphia Roll! White Tuna recommend. Sorry for Mr. Sekis sick, hope he will be okay. Lowest price in the town for sushi for sure, I mean the chef is real Japanese chef. Service is not so important, taste is the key! If you really love sushi, you care taste more or focus on the service? In this town, only Yamamoto, Seki and Suganos sushi chefs are real Japanese!

This is the best place in Lexington to get Sushi. My friends and I have tried so many other places to get out sushi fix and when we tried this palace, we were blown away. The price is so reasonable and when you factor in their specials its unbelievably low. The quailty is very high and the service is fantastic. I cannot recommend this place more.

No frills solid sushi. Call ahead for reservations. Cuts of meat are small, but the fish is fresh. Small and cozy dining area, always enjoyable. If you cant get a table here, try Sugano. These two restaurants are equals, in terms of taste and quality. Of note, Sugano portions a noticeably larger than Sekis.

An excellent sushi place. Their rolls are fantastic and very affordable and there are constantly deals out to save money. The only reason they get 4/5 is because their nigiri was somewhat lackluster as they used slices of fish which were too thin. Still I highly recommend Oshimi.
