This is the worst excuse for a Japanese Restaurant.I have literally been to Japan and every state, this is definitely by far the worst Japanese Restaurant I have ever been too, they should be ashamed. I was told I need to go and check this place out by some friends who love it because it serves alcohol. You would have to be drunk to eat their food. The noodles were gross. The fried rice was mush and with too many eggs. We were the only two people there and the wait for our food was over 30 minutes. The chicken was overcooked and rubbery and tasted freezer burnt, the teriyaki sauce was gelatinous. The sushi was tasteless and the rice was overcooked. The vegetables were completely overcooked. They had a toddler in the kitchen, literally a toddler running around in the kitchen. The prices were horribly high 50 bucks for two people at a good restaurant is reasonable, but a cruddy place like this is horrible. Why did all my food taste like it came out of a freezer, the salad was clearly past its prime and had been frozen. It was completely clear in spots! Their ginger dressing on the salad was peanut dressing with mild ginger taste. Their "clear soup" was just that but clear of any taste besides chicken broth. Their excuse for green tea was a joke. They only had one server but for one table it should have been easy. No the servers phone was way more important than us, our drinks sat empty. I saw at least a half a dozen employees in the back. Two on the sushi bar but the sushi took 20 mins to arrive. Let me express how gross the sushi was. Tiny, flavourless, out of the freezer, overcooked rice. The ginger was definitely out of date. I will never go back to this hole. I can see why they had to go on the cheap and dangerous side of town, because their is no way they would be able to hold down a restaurant anywhere else. If I could give zero stars I would to this Japanese abomination. Also, never got a bill had to go to the counter to have them ring me up. I had to tell them what I had. Horrible service, horrible frozen, food poor reheat job, way over priced, and way to long of a wait for one table.

The food was spectacular. I had the "Seafood pick two" dinner meal with shrimp and scallops. The shrimp and scallops were amazingly tender and very large. The meal comes with soup (broth with green onions and mushrooms). It also comes with a ginger salad topped with flash fried potato strings, something Id never had before and it was delicious! It added a deliciously subtle and nutty crunch. Surprisingly, the meal also included rice noodles as well. There was so much food! We got three sushi rolls. The Hawaiian, the Dynamite, and the Volcano roll. The presentation was beautiful and they tasted amazing. Our favorite was the Volcano roll. It had a spicy seafood bake on top of the rolls that was to die for. Our server was so kind and caring. She even turned the TV to cartoons for our kiddos and made special pinwheel folded napkins for them. They even brought out some complimentary bottles of Japanese soda pop for us to try. We will DEFINITELY be returning to Kyoto again.

The wait-time was extreme as there was only one waitress for a busy time--on a weekend. The fried rice had too many eggs, the stir fry vegetables and noodles were okay. The clear soup and salad with ginger dressing was good. As we were waiting, too may tables stayed dirty, and there was a stream of people coming in. The young men sitting at the table next to us, the cook (or whomever) forgot about them and didnt bring all of their meals. I try and give places a fair chance, but I dont think I will be going back. 7/16/2016

Excellent family owned Japanese restaurant. A hidden delicacy in Topeka. Good and quality is fantastic. This small restaurant easily keeps up with the larger Japanese hibachis. Food is not prepared in front of you, which I personally like, but quality is still great. Full Japanese menu. Sushi is very good as well. Have only been one time, but will definitely be returning often. Especially for date nights as the portions are large and can easily be shared between two people. Highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion.

Best kept secret in Topeka. Food was perfect with great taste, consistency was spot on with the vegetables being a primary focus of mine as most times they are either over or under cooked. Plate presentation was fantastic lending a visual appeal that did nothing but augment the wonderful and flavorful bouquet of the food. The extensive Sushi menu was a great surprise and tasty as well. Wait staff was very attentive and engaging making the ambiance complete. Easy a five star dining experience.

Not a fancy restaurant, if thats what youre looking for, but the food is terrific at fair prices. Large selection of sushi. My fiance and I had the split plate of ribeye/shrimp combination, plus an 8-piece roll of sushi, and it was only $26. Although it was their "split plate", we each got a salad/soup, and a plate full of veggies/rice/noodles and a good portion of shrimp/ribeye steak. Which, by the way, the ribeye was fantastic. It was sliced and in a teriyaki (I think) sauce.

Im not one to give bad reviews but I was so disappointed. The service horrible, the waitress never refilled our drinks nor did she come back to give us our bill. I ordered calamari and it was not fresh, tasted almost frost bitten. Honestly im not sute if i was given calamari but the waistress never came back for me to ask. Do not waste your money. I was excited to try this restaurant due to the reviews but the food and service was so bad. Looks can be deceiving.

Ive never had a bad experience here. The owner taught herself how to make sushi and will make anything you want. If she doesnt know how to make something, shell look it up and teach herself. Shes really amazing. And its a family owned business, so supporting your local people is a plus. Ive also tried nearly all of the sushi places in Lawrence and nothing has compared to their sushi so far. Im completely impressed.

Kyoto is the definition of brilliantly made sushi. As far as Topeka goes, Kyoto trumps any other Japanese Sushi restaurant in Topeka. The Fried Soft Shell Crab appetizer is a must try. We had 4 different rolls and all were fantastic. The portion size of entrees is large, and comes at an extremely fair and affordable price. Once you try Kyoto no other sushi in the area will be enough.

Fantastic, Mahi Mahi and Hawaiian Sushi in pics, can share the Hibachi plates. Very good food. Building isnt super fancy, however you have to try it, do not drive by, if Hibachi or Sushi is your thing. On par with all the big places in Kansas City and its hidden in Topeka on 29th st. All it is high quality and a bargain price for the sushi quality and homemade sauces, etc.

I am grateful for this friendly Asian family who brings us quality sushi and Hibachi grilled meats. There is an intimacy here that is rare in todays food business climate, you really feel like this families friend and it is genuine. This place is "Tets Genuine Article." Only two things have true value: food and relationships. Here you get the best of both.- Jeff Kopp
