The Ankeny location has horrible hostesses and servers. When my fiancé and I walked in, we didnt get greeted, even though there were 4 hostesses standing by the entrance. We had to initiate the conversation and ask for a table for two. When we sat down, we ordered beer and the waitress looked at our IDs for like 30 seconds and walked away. She then went and talked to a group of waitresses about us, pointing at us and everything. She then went to the back and pulled some guy out and they obviously talked about us as well. He came out and circled around, looking at us as he walked, and went back in. Finally, 10 minutes later, she brings us out our beer. I told her I didnt want to eat there anymore after the horrible service. She had the audacity to ask if we wanted our check.. No apology, no nothing.. She said "I had to go and ask my manager to protect myself." Instead of apologizing she just continued justifying her actions. Next time you suspect someone has a fake ID ask for another form... I had credit cards, debit cards, and even my social security card with me. She even went on and tried to charge us for the beers that we didnt even touch... I had a horrible experience and wouldnt recommend anyone going. You will get horrible service. The place is full of entitled high school girls who think theyre too good to greet you, or serve you properly. After we left, we went to our regular restaurant, Jethros in Johnston, and had an amazing time. The wait staff is properly trained and its evident that customer service is a priority. To recap, dont go to Jethros in Ankeny if you expect to be treated like a human being...

Worst/most unaccommodating management staff Ive ever seen. They act like you and your party are a nuisance. Ive had several issues with attitude problems and rudeness. Its absolutely bizarre how inhospitable the management staff is in this particular hospitality marketed venue. My most recent experience was that I was gathering a large group of people for a benefit for a young man killed in a motorcycle accident and I asked for the back room from 10:30 until 11:30am on a Sunday. The smartass/jerk manager told me I needed to commit to a THOUSAND DOLLAR MINIMUM COMBINED CHECK. I told him the circumstances of the benefit and sort of reiterated we were not looking for a Friday or Saturday night dinner party, we just wanted to gather for brunch. $1000??? At Jethros? for a one hour brunch??? He did not care at all to consider the business I was offering but seemed to enjoy telling me to get lost. This establishment has no class, never has, never will. The ONLY reason I considered gathering there was out of pure convenience as the food is moderately tasteful at best. Just an average food joint in a nice building with tacky trash running the front of the house. Congratulations.

I have ordered for pick up a few times now and the last time I did I was shorted a side, but I didnt notice until I arrived home and it happens, so I didnt think much of it and excepted the loss. Now today I went to pick my order and I checked the order in the parking lot to find out I was shorted a whole meat. I went back in to speak with the bartender and he told me it was under the other food in the container.....it wasnt, so he gave me the chicken I was missing and I was on my way. I live about 5 minutes away from Jethros and after I started eating immediately after arriving the ribs I ordered had to be ripped apart because they were so dry, the chicken I couldnt finish because I ran out of soda and BBQ sauce due to the dryness, the coleslaw had no flavor besides just cabbage, and the mashed potatoes tasted just like instant. Well the bottom line, I will not be using this restaurant again and since I dont know what the food is like when dinning in, but I would not recommend carry out.

I ordered ahead to pick up my order. The food was good and I wouldve given 5 stars for food alone. However, the orders to go section of the restaurant was a big let down. I walked in, the hostess directed me to the bar where she said someone would help me. There was another customer who wanted to place an order ahead of me. We waited, what seemed forever before anyone even acknowledged her. Then after she placed her order, I was standing in line as well and I had to wait an additional 6 minutes to get someomes attention for them to hand me my already prepared food, I could see it sitting on the counter. Needless to say my food was cold. But it was good, none the less. I would go back for the food, but wouldnt order to go again

Food never fails to disappoint. It normally comes down to the Better Homes and Garden Melt or Wings for me. Try the waffle fries with a side of chipotle ranch, corn bread or a side of mac and cheese. Service is hit or miss, but normally not an issue. On one occasion we went to pick up a to-go order at the bar and was being ignored by two bartenders until someone else came over to help. The two said they were watching the end of the game that was on and planned on helping us after it was over. Thankfully that wasnt our first time visiting otherwise it likely would have been our last. Again service isnt normally an issue but I not consistent enough for a full 5 stars.

Typical midwest bbq food, nothing that stands out as a must have. Prices are typical for the portion sizes and nothing Ive had is bad. However at the same time nothing is outstanding and makes you feel the need to come here over any of the other hundred nnq places in the area. Best days to go are actually tuesday or thursday for half priced wings or boneless wings. Personally I would go the Drake area or Altoona locations over this one as I find the food to be slightly better and service to be better.

Dont know what to say. I read that last review and was upset. Ive been going to this place for a few years now know the people enjoy them down to upper management and bartenders and waitresses. I feel like everyone is generally pretty laid back and comfortable. Would like to talk with that last person and ask what their concerns were being a regular customer. It could have been a bad day as the situation sounds and would have no problem chatting with the person at Jethros at some point. Thx

Not what we expected. Server was less than friendly. Appetizer never came out and when the meal arrived there were no sides. Apparently we were waiting on those. Ordered the brisket sandwich on Texas toast but they forgot to actually toast it. Meal was okay but pretty much a failure from start to finish. Not even an apology for the poor experience. Hopefully it was some new staff who will get it together soon.

OMG, I love all the Jethros and drive from Ames just to go to them. Last time I was here I got a poboy and it was delicious. I also love "The Jethro" which is a *slightly* more manageable version of the Emenecker or however you spell that. That said its still freakin huge and I usually have to take half of it home. Come here with am empty stomach, and youll still leave with a to go box.
