We were here on a visit (admitted student day at UIUC) and were looking for an Indian restaurant near the Illini Union, where we were staying. Even though the reviews were good, I went in with pretty low expectations. University town, little competition in its niche - how good could it be, right? Wrong! From the outside it looks like a dump... inside, it does not have great ambiance, nor does not have that ethnic decor that is endemic in most Indian restaurants. What it DOES have is tasty food. The daal makhani was as good as any Ive had in a while, as was the palak paneer. The prices were very reasonable as well. On the whole we came away very satisfied with the experience.

I was on a short visit to Urbana, and visited this place. There are three types of Indian restaurants: 1. The ones Indians love, because it is authentic (but is not very much liked by others) 2. The ones everyone else loves, but Indians generally do not, because the cuisine is westernized to cater everyone and 3. the rare ones that is liked by everyone because the food is just plain awesome. This one belongs to the second category, and I feel is pretty over-hyped. You can visit here once!

Best Indian food in Champaign-Urbana; however the service is horrible. We had to wait 30 minutes for a seat and never got one. They did seat a group of three people before us even though we got there first, the group didnt have a reservation, and we were only a party of two. We had to sit at the bar which is not ideal... finally, we didnt get our appetizer for another 30 minutes. If you plan on going there, expect to be there for about two hours.

Went there yesterday and the food was OUTSTANDING. I had never eaten Indian food, but My Niece and her Boyfriend took us there and needless to say I fell in love with the food. I going back to Lubbock, Texas and look for me some Indian food as good as this was , but I doubt it very serious. OK Sitara we need your restaurant in Lubbock, TX. Three thumbs up.

I think the food is great and so do my friends. I cannot attest to authenticity but I can say the staff are friendly and professional. A relaxing, reasonably priced restaurant near the middle of Urbana. No place gets 5 stars since I have to reserve the 5th star for saints (socially conscious people donating time for a cause while doing a great job too)

Decent place to get Indian food. Being an Indian myself not the most authentic place I have been to but I only know of two truly authentic Indian restaurant and one is in Chicago and the other in Atlanta. Anyway food is good for most people this restaurant serves. Most Indians I know in this area prefer this place over others in Champaign area.

The food is nothing short of terrific! The chef used to cook for Bombay Indian Grill, so if you liked the food there, you will definitely like it here. The ambiance is a bit like a deli or diner, but no matter: The food is wonderful, served hot and sizzling, with a riot of flavors and colors! The service is quick and the servers polite.

Asked for Chicken Curry "as spicy as possible" but it tasted extremely mild. My girlfriend who hates spice tried it and found it mild. Also, the Chicken Curry and Chicken Tikka Masala were nothing like authentic Indian cuisine, and nowhere near as good as Ambar in Champaign. We will not be returning. Very bland food. Sad!

I had the Chicken Vendaloo here which was tangy with really well cooked chicken. It was certainly not as spicy as I would have preferred, but thats okay. Id eat here again. I got carry out without ordering ahead of time and got my food within 15 minutes even though the restaurant was packed.

Great food, and they deliver! My wife is a fan of Mali Kofta, which isnt available on every Indian menu, but they delivered it and it tasted great. My Palak Paneer was delicious, as well. We will likely become frequent customers, both of the delivery service and of the restaurant.

As someone who is fairly new to Indian cuisine, I have had several pleasant experiences dining at Sitara. Their chicken tiki masala is fantastic and their garlic naan is a great addition to any meal. Highly recommended for CU folks who are looking to try out some new Indian food.

We were really excited but to our surprise the food was bland. Ordered a lamb vindaloo and it more water than curry. The butter chicken was tomato sauce not the thick rich decadence you expect from a butter chicken. Maybe it was a bad day for the chef but the classics were a fail.

I honestly havent had food this good in a very long time. It was beyond amazing. The waiter was very kind and never disappointed. The atmosphere is great, they play indian music and tv. We are only visiting Illinois for family and now this place has become a must visit for us.

I think this is the best Indian restaurant in Urbana- Champaign. A bit expensive for students but the quantity they serve for each dish can be easily shared by 2 people. The restaurant get very crowded and sometime you will have to wait for 10 to 15 mins to get a table.

interesting place, when you enter it doesnt look like a Indian restaurant with all the open bar but the Bollywood songs would assure you it is. I am rating this while waiting for my order and in the means, I noticed I was the only Indian. will recommend to visit

Got there and waited almost an hour for our food. Albeit that it was during a busy time; however, there was a guy who walked in about 10 minutes after we did & got his food first due to what appeared to be a relationship with the cook. Really bad service.

In my opinion, this is the best Indian restaurant in Champaign-Urbana. Ive been here about half a dozen times so far, and everything has been fantastic. The flavors are bold and distinctive, and the service has been prompt and attentive.

Really high quality food. If you dont believe me, take my Indian friends words for it. Entrees are mostly $10 or less so its affordable for college students to treat themselves every now and then. Highly recommend this place to anyone.

Stopped on our way from New York to Iowa as the Google reviews were all very positive. Was average Indian food, albeit a welcome reprieve from the standard chain food we got on the road trip. But not the best Indian food I have had.

Really nice indian restaurant. Went there with a couple of friends in Urbana and we all enjoyed the food. I would definitely return next time I visit Urbana. The Biryani and lamb curry were especially tasty.

Weve only been once so far, but the food is good and very reasonably priced. Its kind of an odd set-up as a converted bar, but if youre looking for Indian food in the area Sitara is hard to beat.

In my experience this is currently the best Indian restaurant in town. My only complaint is that they cant make it quite as spicy as I would like it, which is, admittedly, pretty darn hot.

One of the good Indian restaurants in C-U area. Food is pretty good. But if you are straight out of India, then no matter what, you wont like most of the Indian restaurants in the US
