I had lunch at Udupi Palace, Schaumburg from around 12:30 pm to 1:45 pm (Sept 20, 2015) with my family It was our first time at Udupi and we thought to try buffet. We stuck ourselves to the South Indian food and we loved the taste. Because we loved the food, we were pretty sure that we will be regular at Udupi now, until we requested for a take away box for our 3 year old daughter. And we were bluntly said NO. The waiter said "Buffet food is not supposed to be taken away. Its the restaurants policy". We tried to explain him that the food being taken away is something our child already has in her plate. And its our childs food who would take her own time eating. I dont think that was something that could not have been allowed for a 3 year old child. And on top of that the waiter said "we wont be charging you for the childs food anyways". I dont have any clue what being charged has anything to do with what we were requesting. We had no intention of taking some extra food from the buffet as a take away. I have no clue why the waiter didnt allow us taking small portion of our childs food away. The South Indian food was good but this experience wasnt.

We visited Udipi for dinner on our way thru Chicago. It is supposed to be a pure vegetarian place but this location serves meat and as per their menu, they are proud about it :-( . Not a good sign in continuing traditions. This was my first disappointment. We ordered the traditional items like Avial, poori, paper masala dosa, rava dosa which are very basic and traditional items. We would expect Udipi to nail them as they are supposed to be good at them. But to our disappointment.. #Avial. . Is not good, it tasted like coconut milk and yogurt chutney without any vegetables in it. #Paper dosa. . Was very thick and not crispy at all. #Poori.. tasted like half fried dough. . #Udipi chat..was like random mixture of sweet and savor sauce with dahi vada in it..there is nothing special in it.. # menu said Avial will be served with Rice..but they forgot to serve rice. When we asked for it, they served it as if they are doing a favor. Bad service..and bad quality food. Never going to visit this place or any Udipi location in future for breaking their tradition and not respecting the quality of the food. A big disappointment indeed.

The WORST and UNHEALTHY FOOD !!! PATHETIC!!!! I am a south Indian and I know how each dish they placed in Menu actually tastes. Few days back Ive been there and got Allergies after eating famous PALAK PANEER there. Im sure Coconut Chutney preparation happens only once in a week. Its smell and taste was pathetic :( Those Onion pakodas were not properly cooked but were placed in buffet. You can notice the wet flour inside pakoda. That is supposed to be dry ! Tasted Chicken too..Couldnt take single bite of it....Total waste of time and money !! As people here are not aware how actually south Indian food taste I decided to write this review. Hope it helps !! Pity singles who has to depend on this food :(

This is a great place to eat Dosas. This is close by my home so i tend to go to this every now and then. But the service is what it bothered me in the last 3 visits. Each time, I got a misplaced order. Malai Kofta was served instaed of Panneer Malai Kofta, Rava Masala Dosa was served instead of Rava Onion Dosa. Not that food tasted bad, but this is not what I ordered. Since the order was close to what I ordered, I did not make a fuss out of it. Beware, never order Chicken Biryani. I am surprised, at the least, it is not even chicken biryani. It is chicken curry being served as Chicken Biryani. Dosas are good. But I dare not expand my horizon. Likes : Dosas, ambience Dislikes: Service, Chicken Biryani

After my favorite Indian restaurant sadly went out of business Ive been hauling all over Schaumburg and Hoffman to try and find a replacement. Of the 6-7 restaurants Ive found so far, Udupi pretty hands down has the best food. Food is well prepared, spiciness can be adjusted properly, great quality, and honestly quite exceptional naan. Table service seems about average, a bit aloof, but mostly accommodating if you need something. My only complaint is that the atmosphere is really quite bad. Old style diner look, with fake palm trees and a badly oversized waiting area. That aside though, I pretty much go out to eat just for the food, and this one definitely fits the bill there.

first of all udupi restaurants are vegetarian only. This is the only udupi restaurant where meat is served. Second the south india dishes are pathetic. Third even north indian food is pathetic. They are spoiling udupi brand. The chef/cook doesnt know how to cook north or south indian food. He is probably a bangladeshi cook. I would recommend if restaurant doesnt serve tasty food, they dont deserve to exist. I would never ever go. Food review from buffet I had today: 1. Idlys are made from previous day rice. If you drop them on floor it would bounce, they were so hard 2. Vadas are so pathetic, dry and hard too. 3. North indian curries are filled with ketchup.

I love this little gem. The main 2 managers are so kind and truly genuine. Ive been going here for 8 years and I love their food great quality. The buffet is not my favorite for some reason it doesnt work or show their true quality. Order in and enjoy a totally different experience. It doesnt serve liquor but I can appreciate that and a simple dinner never hurts. The menu has several selections and if ever you need a suggestion they are more than happy to assist. Try Khadi Chicken and Tamarind Rice soooo good. Enjoy the simple charm of a wonderful restaurant.

Ill start this of by saying I have limited knowledge of Indian food. I happened to be in the area and decided to stop in foot something different. I am glad I did. I had the lunch buffet. Every dish was excellent from the lamb curry to the tandoori chicken to the, pardon me for not recalling the authentic name, cottage cheese in red sauce. The host was patient and very informative as I admitted my ignorance. He explained each dish and the general area from India it originated. Very informative. I will definitely be back.

OMG & OYG (Oh your God) The food was great!!! I am American 100%, but I love going to different Indian Rests, this is the best one yet. The staff was very friendly and talkative (that was nice) And everything even the bathrooms were very clean. I read some of the other reviews that talked about not being authentic. I have had many different places, and if this is not authentic, I like this better, we walked out and felt great. Keep up the good work . I will be back. The Caros

Food was not great at all. I shall say it was on the lower border of average limit scale. Rasmalai which is suppose to be a sweet dish was not sweet. It had a different pungent odor. It seemed and taste like a frozen food. Lamb curry was not cooked properly. It was not well done. Masala Dosa was complementary. But was served at later half of the lunch when i was about to start with deserts. To cut the story short, i am not coming here again.
