We have been to Shikara a number of times, so I can speak from direct first hand experiences over the past few years. The food is ok - they seem to not make it too heavy, greasy and spicy like other Indian restaurants do, and more importantly it seems to be fresh. They are not consistent though - I have had dal makhani there multiple number of times, and every time I have ordered, it has tasted different -- although every time it was ok overall. What it makes up in food, however, it gives up in customer service. The staff is not particularly attentive (they disappears for long durations) and I have had the displeasure of interacting with the on site manager multiple times. In the latest instance, the aloo in the aloo gobi was not cooked and the manager, as usual, was his stubborn self - of course the aloo pieces were cooked. I dont think these guys understand the meaning of "the customer is always right". I got so sick and tired of the manager, I just refused to pay and the manager was ok with it. No sorry, no apology, nothing. So, after all this, I do not think I am going back there again. The food is not so great as to make me overlook the customer service issues. If I were you, I would stop giving these guys business -- there are a number of better places with friendlier staff for Indian food in the western suburbs.

Keep your wits about you! Great food at a big price. The service was absolutely horrendous. If the tip wasnt included in the bill because of the size of our party (6), I doubt much of a tip would have been left and thats something I never even consider as an option. Not only was our waitress entirely disrespectful, but it took them at least 20 minutes to even recognize that we were in need of service. The food was very good, however, be wary as we had a very interesting moment during our meal. The person who seemed to be the bartender at one point came over to our table and took our sauces without warning. He didnt ask, didnt even look any of us in the eye. He just came over, took the sauces and brought them out to another table. This was probably 45 minutes after we had been using them and we all used them. Some used the spoons, some dipped so the sauces should not have been reused like that. It absolutely disgusted everyone at our table and, if you extrapolate, you can see my concern. I have no idea what goes on in the kitchen and I dont plan on finding out. I doubt it was the first time something like that had ever happened and Shikara in lucky we didnt demand a refund.

Ive never done the buffet/whatever - Ive only done sit down dining off a menu. That said, Shikara remains my favorite indian place in the northwest suburbs. The menu is varied, theyre flexible and accommodating. A few notes: Spice level - if you want mild, ask for mild. If you want spicy, ask for it. I think they default to a mild level of spice, but if you want a more authentic flavor profile theyre more than capable of it. Service - It can be slow. They dont want to be intrusive and end up being too hesitant to interrupt conversation or eating. That said, Ive had a fantastic experience with the servers here. I ask them for suggestions, talk with them, ask them questions about the food. If you engage with them, theyre very, very attentive. If you dont, theyre polite - but you may feel like youre waiting on service, if you dont catch their eye or ask them over. I really like Shikara. I like the staff. Ive only ever had pleasant experiences here.

Shikara has a wide variety of foods and a broad range of flavors, but the service was horrendous. My party had to flag down the waitress so we could order food after 20 mins of waiting. As I ordered my appetizer, the waitress seems confused that I was only ordering an appetizer for two even though there were 6 of us at the table. Another main problem with the service was that nothing was explained as the food or starters were brought out. Seeing as how this is our first time to an indian restaurant we have to flag the waitress down again in order to understand what we were eating and what some of the dipping sauces were. Lastly they had problems splitting the check even though we asked the waitress, right before we got the check, to split the checks. She says its okay to split them and comes back 30 seconds later with everything on one bill. They were not busy so there was no excuse for the service we received.

Used to be good, but last 2 times it was horrible. 1. We were greeted well, and presented with the menu. Ordered a drink and told them thm to wait for few minutes before we make up our mind on menu. Keep pushing us to order , we were asked 5 times within 2 mins. Come on, you dont bombard your customers like that. 2. Then we order food, taste was awful. It used to be really good. 3. Flies and Mosquitoes everywhere. I noticed that there was a fly in my drink. I told the manager and goes like "oh this one is alive" .. "if it was dead it would not float" .WHAT DOES THAT MEAN??? should i just request that fly to fly out and be thankful it didnt die ??? And we were got charged for that drink too.... horrible Horrible place go to and dine. Never go there. I wish i could just give it negative rating.

VERY VERY VERY BAD FOOD QUALITY. MOSQUITOES IN THE RESTAURANT AND IN MY DISH. WHEN I COMPLAIN HE SAID SORRY THATS IT. NO WAITED ALMOST HALF HOUR TO GET WATER. WHEN WE ORDER STARTER AGAIN BAD SERVICE, THEY DIDNT GIVE "CHATANY" WITH FOOD. I ASK FOR IT THAN HE TOOK ALMOST 20 MINUTES. ALSO I ORDERED TWO DIFFERENT DISH PANIR TIKKA MASALA -MEDIUM SPICY AND MALAI KOFTA MILD SPICY. BUT PANEER TIKKA WAS TOO SPICY THAT I COULDENT EVEN EAT. PLUS MALAI KOFTA DISH IS NOT SPICY IN ANY RESTAURANT BUT HERE THEY MADE IT TOO SPICY TOO. I WILL NEVER GO TO THIS RESTAURANT AGAIN. AND I HAVE TOLD ALL MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY NOT TO GO THIS RESTAURANT. BIG RED FLAG TO SHIKARA. I WOULD NOT EVEN GIVE ONE STAR TO IT BUT TO SUBMIT THIS COMMENT I HAVE TO CHOOSE ATLEAST ONE STAR. SO BHIKH ME DIYA EK STAR.

The food was good but the service left very much to be desired. We were seated, were not asked if this was the first time here. The buffet was lacking looked like it had been sitting there for a while. It was 3p which seems like the time they move from lunch to dinner. We were never given any menus. We drank water. The waitress came with the bill not five minutes after we sat down with our plates. Then five minutes later came and asked us to pay because the manger was going on break. After that all the staff seemed to have disappeared as well as the food. The for price we were charged I expected a whole heck of a lot better everything. Most likely I WILL NOT be going back and WILL NOT be telling friends/family about this place. If asked I will warn not to go.
