I LOVE Kansaku. I just recently moved from Evanston to Minneapolis, and I miss Kansaku more than any other local Evanston restaurant! They have the best specialty rolls---the creamy lobster roll and the King Kong roll are especially to-die-for! Theyre slightly more expensive than other specialty rolls in town, but the quality is worth the small increase in price. Great atmosphere, always kind service, and Ive never had to wait to be seated. All-you-can-eat sushi is a great value for the money. Perfect for a nice evening out, but causal enough for lunch w/friends.

This place is okay at the most. Sushi is half decent, very bland flavors, not exciting at all for my taste buds. Rice they use in their rolls seem to be a major contributor to the monotonous palette. It is semi-sweet and too dense. As someone else mentioned maybe their cooked foods are little better. I was setting myself for the failure after I tasted a completely watered down miso soup at the very beginning. Overall I would give this place, based on the food alone, a very generous 3/5. Still think that the best sushi place in Evanston is Kunis on Main street.

Fresh, tasty maki rolls. Generous portions compared to many sushi places. I also sampled my boyfriends rice and tofu entree, which was decent. This is one of the better sushi options in Evanston. Its a little overpriced like most other sushi places, but at least youre getting fresh sushi unlike at some other places. Our server was helpful and friendly. This is a nicer restaurant, so it would make for a good date spot. I also like its location next to Prairie Moon and Nevins, so if youre planning on grabbing drinks after dinner, this is a good choice.

Ive lived within a few blocks on Kansaku since it opened and if I want a nice, upscale sushi dinner- this is definitely the place! Great, fresh sushi. Creative delicious rolls! All of the appetizers Ive tried are great, and Ive never had a problem with the service. It is not the cheapest sushi place in Evanston though. Highly recommend the King Kong roll. Just wish they would bring back the golden shrimp appetizer! Really great atmosphere too...

We going to this place because my wife said its cool place when we saw from outside. We go then and order shrimp shomai, calamari, crab crunch and tiger prawns. I thought with this price its gonna taste good, but In fact its taste like 5$ sushi. Very disappointed as a sushi lover, and from that menu we order we only enjoy shrimp somai. Never come back again.

Really good sushi at this place. Probably the best in Evanston. They have very simple rolls to things that are more exotic. They also have plenty of non sushi dishes like tonkatsu among others. The atmosphere is kind of romantic making it a good place for dates.

Can be summed up as good food but pricey. Its a nice ambiance and the service was friendly. However, I couldnt justify spending more than $30 for an individual sushi sampler so ordered a more economical entree instead. Food was good but didnt justify the price.

Ive tried five different places to get sushi in the Evanston area, and this one single handedly made me want more, more, more. Having been a sushi fan for years, this Americanized spin on the classic cuisine is the best of its kind in the city.

It was GREAT. I had a lunch special, it was awesome. I could eat everything cause the portions were so good. The prices were good, thats what i thought. I had a really good time. The Sushi was amazing there. I had Nigiri and it was awesome.

Decent food, but definitely worth the price. The sushi was a particular let down, but I suppose not many options in the area as alternative. If you go, Id say stick to the cooked menu, as its probably the only thing there worth the money.

Meh. The rolls at this place are more expensive than Dozika (down a few streets), but I think Dozika has better rolls (or a better sushi chef in general).
