Hey folks...havent written a review is some time but needed to write one up on Kegon. Its been a few years since we visited the restaurant last, and I remember 10-15 years ago this place was jammed up with a line out the door. Times have sure changed for worst and I understand why. We stopped in there this past Friday evening we noticed only two other occupied tables in the whole restaurant on a Friday night. My kids ordered fried rice that was pretty good, I had the lobster roll that I enjoyed however my wife ordered the Sashimi platter that came out slimy and just way off. The white tuna was fine but the others werent what so ever. She had one piece of the red tuna and spit it out into a napkin. We called over the waiter to complain that the sushi wasnt fresh and that we didnt want it. He told us that all sales are final and he cant take food back once its been handed over from the kitchen. I was just amazed that was his answer, never has this happened to us the past. We paid our bill in full, and ended up leaving the whole platter of the sashimi (only eating 2 out of about 20 pieces) on the table. I left my name and phone number on the table in case a manger / owner wanted to contact me to discuss our dining experience...no one has called me yet. My theory is that this place doesnt have that many visitors so the Sushi isnt turned over as frequently as before causing for it to be displayed a few days or weeks past its time. Our bill was $150 so the next day leaving me with a feeling of getting ripped off...oh well, we will never go back. I really hate writing up a negative review but it was well deserved in this case

Kegon is totally legit! They have tough competition from the likes of Benihana and Ron of Japan, but I would say they hold their own pretty well. Also, I think they expanded their sushi selection. I really, really like this place, but my brother freaking LOVES it! His reaction upon mention of Kegon? "OH! Kegon! Oh-oh-ho-ho-ho-ho-oh! Oh-ho-ho-ho-ho-ho..." Well, for a better description of his full reacton, please refer to my review of Lou Malnatis [Northbrook]. The biggest problem is the location, though very visible from Waukegan, is kind of tucked out of the way.

We take our three young children there all the time and they are thoroughly entertained by the experience. Its also a kid-friendly place which is appreciated. Additionally, I love the sushi there (I am a sushi snob, and this sushi is fresh and the rolls are well made). My favorite part though is the brown rice option they give you-- its slightly healthier and tastes great. I recommend it for anyone looking for a Hibachi experience, especially if you have kids.

This place had about the worst restaurant experience I have ever encountered from service that was abysmal to a manager that was overly rude and hostile to food that was basically inedible. .portion sizes which were not anywhere near expectation I wouldnt send my worst enemy to kegon no matter what. This place needs to close. Yesterday. Yuck.

I ordered from here off of grubhub. I called the resturaunt after my delivery was 30 minutes late asking when it would come. The employee on the phone was rude and started yelling at me when I asked the question. I wasnt being rude or anything, so I dont believe I deserved that.

This place has an awesome vibe and cool authenticity to it! Love the food here (only place with Golden Shrimp I could find!) The hibachi was a nice show. The place got busy around dinner time so I expected to wait a while, but we got served pretty fast for it being busy!

I liked it, never tried Sushi, but the steaks, salmon, chicken & shrimps are delicious. If you want to see some cooking shows - visit this place (although it depends what cook youll be assigned to). Definitely choose the brown rice over regular.

My husband and I go here once a week (at least). Great service and sushi. Havent had much from the hibachi tables but the few times my husband has gotten it he seemed to like it.

Lunch Specials. Need I say more!?! If you like habachi restaurants and dont want to spend a mint, go here for lunch. They are very reasonably priced and the food is fantastic.

We ordered hibachi steak and four rolls. The steak came out in about 10 minutes. The rolls took over an hour. The restaurant was not very full when we were there.
