HAIR IN FOOD and they still charged me!!! I have eaten here multiple times before and the food has always been ok. During my most recent experience I found a hair rolled into my California roll. I let the waitress know and explained that I did not want anything else. I had honestly lost my appetite. I was surprised when the manager never came to our table to apologize, but was completely shocked when the bill came and I was still being charged for my meal. When I mentioned that to the waitress she said that they had not seen the hair in my food, which was completely untrue. They finally agreed with taking $6 off my bill. The manager, Sue, was completely rude and unprofessional. I will never go back to this restaurant. It is shocking to me that a restaurant would actually charge a customer for a MEAL WITH A HAIR in it. GROSS!!!

Decent Japanese Place to Dine. I actually have been dining here for Japanese Cuisine but some of the quality had gone down a star. I had gone here today on my B-day for Lunch with family and I still give it 3 stars. The sushi is good but decided to go for the Bento Box special for Orange Roughy fish and maki rolls lunch time. I had their tempura ice cream which is similar to fried ice cream which was delicious. All and all I had a decent meal for my birthday but I notice the staff and some of the cuisines are not as good as it used to be back in 2002-2003. Wish they did not close their grocery store next door because they sold authentic Japanese merchandise. Now I got to travel to Mitsuwa Marketplace (AKA Yohuan) in Arlington Heights,IL for real Japanese made products both food and other specials.

I am new to the Chapel Hill / Carrboro, NC, area. I visited this restaurant with co-workers celebrating a co-workers birthday. Needless to say, we had a slightly large party during the lunch rush on a Friday. The servers at Akai Hana were definitely skilled and capable of handling our large party. The service was solid, friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Thanks so much! The sushi was also top drawer. I will fully admit that I did not expect the sushi in this area to be decent. However, I was happily wrong and corrected by the good sushi at this restaurant. I highly recommend this restaurant. Order the spider and spicy tuna rolls.

Ok food, but the service is terrible. We got dirty looks from the staff when we arrived close to closing (but well before they were closed.) The waitresses were rude, and they were not even able to give us the miso soup we ordered. Halfway through our meal, while we were still eating our entree, they brought out our desserts and our bill. We found it really pushy and tacky. They did receive a low tip due to the poor service, and then mocked us out loud for the whole restaurant to hear as we were leaving. The treatment we received was simply unacceptable.

Went there for lunch. It was impressively unimpressive. Got the sashimi sampler which had 5 tiny pieces of sashimi, some tempura veggies, seaweed salad, and noodle soup for $16. Overpriced in my opinion and fish was below average. Not to mention any chef that sends out a piece of imitation crabmeat as on of the 5 pieces of sashimi should perform sepaku. The pic on the menu showed twice as much fish plated. Misleading. Lasty, the service was just above awful.

I have known this place more than 20 yrs. Because decline in quality of food and service, my family stopped goining. Last night we were invited and reluctantly ordered sushi deluxe. Rice was so soft we couldnt even hold it with chopsticks. We litetally needed a spoon. My father in law showed it to the manager and a young receptionist and they were questioning how we eat sushi. They were so unprofessional and rude. This place is not worth your money.

If youre looking for a sushi fix but dont want to settle for supermarket sushi, check out this long-standing Japanese restaurant in a strip mall right off the Edens expressway. Youll find an impressive selection of sushi, as well as noodle soups, teriyaki, etc., also known as the standards of Japanese-American cuisine. Staff are always friendly and willing to explain unknown menu items.

We used to like this place, but now it became so blend and boring. The only Japanese about the place is the name. The cooks are mostly Hispanic, the wait staff from south east Asia and maybe the owners are Korean. This feel like the McDonalds of sushi restaurant, the food is not bad, but it is not good or authentic. Maybe eating better sushi in Japan and west coast has spoiled us?

Serviceable sushi restaurant in the northern suburbs. Its not going to blow you away, nor is it terrible enough to stay away. There are better options a short drive away, but if youre close and have a craving, it should fit the bill. They serve most standard rolls and sushi you would see at any other sushi place. Akai Hana serves some specialty rolls, but nothing that stands out.

Five star for one of the best sushi restaurant in the Chicago area. Im visiting this restaurant with my family very often since a few years. The food is great, fresh, very friendly staff and you can order a combination box where you can try a little bit of everything. Really great and I enjoined every time I visit this restaurant.

They have some good specials and different rolls than you usually see. The takoyaki is my favorite. Friendly staff as well. Regular prices are typical sushi expensive.

This is our favorite local sushi place. We go almost every week. They have a separate all-you-can-eat menu, which is a great deal, especially on Tuesdays 4–6:30 p.m.

I really like the Sushi here. Weve always had really good meals. Fish is very fresh, the portions are generous and I didnt feel like it was a bad fish to rice ratio.

Akai Hana is by far the best Japanese restaurant in the northern suburbs of Chicago. Great service, friendly faces and the best fish at reasonable prices.
