If you desire competent servers, delicious food, and a wonderful sense of coastal atmosphere..go somewhere else! This establishment was by far the worst restaurant I have ever had the displeasure of visiting! The staff were as entertaining and efficient as a beached whale..Our party of five people waited 30 minutes to order drinks with an additional 15 to recieve them. The place was apparently "swamped" as the waiter put it. Pardon me if Im wrong, but would 8 full tables at a dining establishment be considered swamped? Once our opportunity finally came to place an order I had already decided on the crab cakes. Soon after my order was written down the waiter said "our crab cakes are horrible"...He was indeed correct. The hardened cement served to me in ball form was apparently their renowned crab cakes. The 2nd piece to my entree was blackened white fish...or as I renamed it "The Fish of Despair". This fish was overdone 10 minutes before they removedit from the grill. On the brighter side, the side items were tolerable...but lets face it, there is really no way possible to ruin french fries. Finally it was time to pay...except our very "capable" waiter had mixed up our orders....he then became very frustrated and demanded we all pay together. I quote "There is no way I will ever be able to figure out what you had, we are swamped! That will be 130 dollars and 57 cents". Needless to say we were very, very frustrated. I decided to pay myself and later have everyone split up, to the best of their knowledge, what they guessed their meal had cost. All that being said I do NOT advocate this restaurant to anyone and would rather dine in hell for the rest of my life than have to step foot inside their door.

There were storm clouds on the horizon as we pulled into the dusty gravel parking lot. If felt as authentic as you could get. The smells of the Sound wafting through the air. Yeah, those clouds over there looked nasty. And we were dead in the middle of it. Bursting through the door, we were met by an alluring little lass in tight jean shorts and long black stockings. Well authenticity just went out the window. But we composed ourselves and were quickly at our table. Menus in hand, methodically began searching for the elusive diner option, that can only be described as equivalent to finding the Holy Grail. This secret shall only be passed on to the Trusted. Alas, the menu was a dead end for our search and we settled in for some intense in depth analysis of the next move, and decided to grab some food while where there. The waiter appeared and quickly grab orders. He was a little too efficient for my liking. SOMETHING seemed off. He was dashing to and fro with lighting speed. Literally, he was running at a mid jog, which is a dash to me. What peeked my curiosity was that all this running he was doing was getting my salad (**EXTRA CHARGE**) to me any faster. My partner pointet out the number of tables he was serving. Hmm, problem solved. He wasnt a skilled assain, but just an over worked waiter. TO BE CONTINUED!

NEVER WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!!!! It was completly nasty I thought that I was gonna vomit after I ate it.I got the shrimp and grits and I agree with Tim it was nasty, not only was it nasty but the portions were really tiny!! When we got there they were out of crab and didnt have crab cakes, so I didnt really want anything after that. The waitress told us that they didnt have crab because the truck didnt arrive hmmmm saying something, it didnt even taste fresh anyways. Somebody in my party got the fried seafood platter and when she bit into the scallops it was completly RAW on the inside and she also got fried oysters and when she bit into it it was also RAW!!! and her fried fish had somehing seeping out of it that shouldnt be seeping out of it!!!!!!! Dont waste your time on this place you just better go to red lobster you will probably enjoy it more!!!!

Im with LJ. I wish I could give them negative stars. I have never reviewed a restaurant but this place deserved it. Started with the clam chowder. More apt to be named potatoes soup in white water. I had the snow crab and the peel and eat shrimp. My wife ordered the fish of the day (no idea what it was other than mush). All the seafood seemed as if at had been frozen and thawed several times. It was dry and mushy. Absolutely disgusting, I did not bother to finish. I had the vegetables as my side. It was a cup of pale broccoli stems and some carrots. On the other hand, the glass of water I had was surprisingly useful in washing out the taste. There a many very good seafood restaurants in the area that are the same price and use the areas fresh seafood. Dont make my mistake!

I came here for an early dinner on my last evening in town with my family. To start: the location is excellent. sitting on the intercoastal waterway looking over to Okaloosa Island is a treat. Everyone at the table started off with a cup of their "Gumbolaya" - which was out of sight! Best cup of the stuff I had the entire trip to the area, which is really saying something. It was chock-full of meats. My main entree was the Lobster Crab Cake Sandwich. It was also excellent, and well worth the price. The star of that meal is the incredible remoulade sauce that comes on the side. Perfectly sweet and tangy and made the meal stand out. Id recommend this place to anyone looking for affordable, top notch seafood without the unnecessary "ambiance" markups.

Great view of the sound...thats all I can say was good. Im a local and this place served the worst seafood Ive had in a long time.. ever since I ate here last. I came here because a tourist friend like the restaurant because of the location. All the seafood was frozen, no fresh fish.. WHAT??? a local seafood restaurant with frozen seafood....even the boiled shrimp was frozen. Summer time and no bay or gulf shrimp??? This will be the last time I come here for the food! It was an embarrassment that we had to ask for a credit because the crab cakes were awful. I wanted to ask for a credit for my half eaten fried grouper ..what a waste of my $22.00!!! And the gumbo was so spicey I could only eat a few spoonfuls. All in all...terrible food!

Read a lot about the Original Crab Shack (dont confuse this with the Crab Trap chain) and we were excited to visit this restaurant. We had a table out on the covered deck and really enjoyed the view. I had oysters on the half shell with a cup of gumbo. The oysters were nice and salty and cold. The gumbo was really good but not with a New Orleans roux flavor. It also could have used a little more seafood. My main course was an oyster po-boy. This was excellent but unfortunately marred by overcooked oysters. Outstanding prompt service by Mimi. We will definitely come back to the Original Crab Shack. (Visited in June 2014)

My husband and I ate dinner at the Crabshack on May 13, 2010. We were greeted by a friendly server who recommended several items on the menu. We ordered drinks and an appetizer that came out promptly. The peel and eat shrimp were extremely fresh. My husband ordered the fish of the day blackened. Delicious. I ordered the fried fish basket which as overflowing and yummy. Sitting on the deck and watching the sunset over the water was also amazing. I definitely recommend giving this place a shot!
