Go to AJs Oyster House - raw oysters were amazing and service was great. On the other hand, High Tides food was not good and the service was horrible. I ordered the special...crab stuffed grouper. It was so rubbery, I had to cut it with a knife. My husband ordered raw oysters, which were warm Our server mistakenly thought we ordered a second serving of oysters. She actually brought them to our table and set them on the other side of my sons friend and then walked away. We had no idea what she brought them to our table for. When she finally returned, we asked her why she had brought them. Her response was that she thought we asked for another order. When we explained we had not, she was very irritated. Snatched them up and stomped away. As she was walking away, we decided wed go ahead and eat the second order since they were already shucked, so we called her back over. That really ticked her off. She threw her order pad on the bar and actually rolled her eyes before bringing them back to us. Needless to say, next to no tip for our server. Her attitude started out bad and ended at worse. Dont waste your time or money at this place.

Got a reference for this place from a pilot buddy of my fiancés, so we knew it was a local/dive place--but he couldnt say enough good things about the place. We just love good food and good service, so we gave this place a try (plus being stationed at Hurlburt, it was right around the corner from our hotel.) Wow. Aside from the mini crab cakes (I personally think most crab cakes are basically fillers anyway, but my fiancé loved them), everything was excellent. Crab legs, shrimp, bacon-wrapped crab stuffed shrimp, oysters--you name it we probably ordered it. Holy portions! And for the price!! Couldnt be beat. Our service was awesome and we loved the hometown/fighter pilot digs. I know this place probably wants to remain a "locals" joint, as it doesnt show up on Google when youre searching for restaurants in the area, but anyone looking for awesome food in a neat place with a cool history, this is the place to come!!! P.S. Ladies room is "Inboard motor" lol.

Upon eating at the high tide restraunt. We were sorely disappointed. This place has gone down hill big time. We are locals who have dined here for many years. The ombiance is like eating at a smelly crab shack, slow service and prices that would blow you mind! Kids meals start $11.95 for two nuggets, French fries and a Coke. We spent $170 on four dozen oysters, a few sandwiches and a few beers! WHAT A RIP OFF! Wont be going back ever.got o the Ocean club or Cigars, any of the higher class restraunts where you have a few drinks and full meals and sides and pay LESS! Dont waist your time. They kept our copy of the bill and now we are battling against this restraunt for over charging, rip off, greedy restraunt. DONT FALL FOR THIS TOURIST TRAP!

My family has been eating at High Tide for 25 years. We look forward to lunch and dinner several time the week we are down because we prefer not to eat at the touristy, generic restaurants in the area and they usually have a killer hamburger. Today our hamburger was inedible and still managed to make it on to our bill for us to pay for, even though my husband and I each only took one bite each. Our waitress took his whole plate back to the kitchen... fries that he hadnt finished and all. Its was cooked medium well, so it wasnt that it wasnt cook right, it just tasted wrong. Hope no one else gets the same meat we did and hoping we dont get sick from one bite.

Ate there today 8/30/14 and this will be the last time. Ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp and it was horrible. The bacon was not cooked crisped, the so-called crab stuffing was bad, but may have had some crab in it, the shrimp was not devained, and the whole thing was extremely greasey. On top of that, they do not have normal french fries (bear battered trash), no baked potatoes, and had to order steamed vegies (bland and really bad). Just another bad place in hillbilly land. There are much better sea food places in this area.

Avoid this place if you want good food at a reasonable price. It is a tourist trap at its best. Our family of four stopped in for dinner (our first night in town) and left with a $100 plus bill with tip. The fried oysters were terrible and the amount of food on the seafood platter was a joke for the price - myself I left still hungry! Just down the road are a number of other quality spots as we found out later. Skip this place and you wont be missing anything. I gave it two stars only because the service was good.

The four of us enjoyed our food. The fish was all excellent. Blackened triggerfish, grilled trigger, and mahi-mahi daily special sandwiches. The rice was so so. We also tried the volcano shrimp. Couldve been hotter, but was tasty. Service was fine and the drinks were always refilled. Waitress was friendly and attentive. Decent atmosphere inside. In summary: get the fish. You can get it either fried, grilled, or blackened. Its good stuff!

Pricey for quality of food.Waitress advised that scallops were sweet and good.. Had no taste..when I sent them back her comments were..we get that comment..then why didnt she advise me of that? Reordered grilled shrimp...not bad but tasted better. Served food on plastic plates and their sour cream was in packs like salad dressing.. Catch of the day not fresh...on the plus side...nautical decor...would not go back...

Had a dozen raw Louisiana oysters on special for $9.95 . . .a deal! And had a burger, which was no deal, dry meat, way too much bun, iceberg lettuce, tomato that wasnt ripe and pepper jack rather than American cheese. But I craved a burger after eating maybe a 55-gallon drum full of fried seafood over the past 10 days on our partial-Loop boat trip from northern Mississippi to Sandestin, Fla., so far.

We had really bad service tonight! Our server Sammy was very rude! Took way to long to take our drink order. Food came out cold. Sammy rolled her eyes at me cause I asked her to take my salad plate since there wasnt room left in front of me when she placed my main dish. Asked for the manager and she didnt even seem to care. Might give them one more chance....

Both of my parents grew up in Ft. Walton, and although we have moved, most of our family still lives there and High Tide is the one place we make sure we go to at least once every time we come down. My parents have been taking me there all my life, and I guarantee that they have the best gumbo and shrimp sandwhichs in all of Ft. Walton/Destin/Shalimar area!

First and last time ever. The hostess that seated us acted like she really didnt want to be there. We were seated next to the kitchen even though other tables were available. We then sat there for 15 minutes while many a waitress passed by us time and again and we were never even acknowledged. Finally left and went down the street to Fudpuckers.
